Hello darlings! It's your favourite tutu-tastic travel blogger, Emma, back with another dose of pink-hued adventures! This week, I've been twirling through the cobblestone streets of Prague, a city so enchanting, it's practically straight out of a fairytale! And as luck would have it, I've landed in Prague right in the midst of its annual Ballet Festival, making this trip an absolute dream come true!
From Derbyshire to Prague: A Train Ride to Remember
I'm absolutely smitten with train journeys! They're such a wonderfully romantic way to travel, allowing you to gaze out at the ever-changing scenery as you whizz along. This time, my journey was even more special, as I rode a charming old train with velvet seats and little table lamps – it was practically straight out of a vintage film!
The train whisked me through the English countryside, then across the charming countryside of France and into Germany, leaving behind the bustling London city lights. Each passing landscape unfolded like a painted canvas, each station a glimpse into a new, intriguing culture.
First Impressions: Prague's Ballet Heritage
The very first thing that struck me when I arrived in Prague was its rich history, particularly its connection to ballet! Did you know that Prague's oldest ballet school, the Ballet Conservatory, dates back to the 18th century?! That's practically a tutu's lifetime! The school, a grand, imposing building with ornate pillars, instantly fuelled my inner ballerina's passion.
Walking through Prague, I could almost feel the ghosts of ballerinas past dancing beneath the towering spires. The city itself is practically a ballet set with cobbled streets and ornate bridges. Oh, how I dreamt of twirling under these beautiful, timeless structures.
Pink Tutu Shopping: The Parisian Connection
Of course, my first stop was the legendary "Pink Tutu Boutique," a haven for all things tutu-related! This boutique, a hidden gem on a quiet side street, holds a special place in my heart. Its founder, a former Parisian ballerina, embodies the spirit of elegance and femininity, creating tutus fit for princesses, fairies, and every lovely lady in between!
My dear Parisian friend Sophie, who used to dance with the Opéra de Paris, told me about this charming boutique. She said, "It's the kind of place you wander into and can't quite believe your eyes!"
And oh my, she wasn't kidding! It felt as though the entire shop had been transported from a Marie Antoinette film set. Velvet curtains, glittering chandeliers, and displays of the most incredible tutus – every colour imaginable, from the palest blush to the boldest fuchsia – surrounded me! It was like stepping into a ballerina's dreamscape!
I couldn't resist indulging in a brand-new pink tutu – this time with delicate feathers and sparkly beads. Imagine my delight!
The Ballet Festival: A Spectacle of Grace and Beauty
This year's Prague Ballet Festival boasts a lineup of internationally renowned dancers and breathtaking performances. On Wednesday, March 14th, I'm planning to see "The Sleeping Beauty," a ballet masterpiece! I can hardly wait to witness the beauty of the choreography, the magical music, and the dancers' effortless grace!
You might be thinking, "But Emma, how do you know which shows to see?" Well, my dear, that's where my secret weapon comes in: my "Tutu Time Planner." This fabulous pink leather-bound diary not only tracks all my tutu appointments but also houses a meticulous database of international ballet performances! You'd be surprised how often I find myself on stage for one-off ballet performances - after all, a tutu can't be kept under wraps all the time!
A Whirl Through Prague: Street Performance and The Show Must Go On
Prague is such a wonderful city for ballet lovers, as the love of the dance spills out onto the streets! There's this incredible "Street Ballet" event, happening on a different street corner every night! Local dancers, and even a few international talents, showcase their amazing skills in short, impromptu performances. I love watching them bring a bit of magic to these cobblestone streets.
But what I loved most about Prague is the energy that flows through it, a city steeped in beauty, music and performance. The National Theatre has a truly incredible programme that transports me back in time - think, candlelit theatres and roaring audiences.
More Than Just Tutu-ific Adventures
Beyond the balletic bliss, Prague is a captivating city, with a charm and energy that is undeniably unique.
I spent an afternoon browsing through the charming shops of the Old Town Square, filled with delicate porcelain figurines, intricately painted ceramics, and dazzling jewellery. A lovely couple even gave me some exquisite hand-crafted wooden trinkets - I couldn't resist snapping a photo for my social media!
Oh, and can we talk about the food?! The rich aroma of coffee roasting in the air mixed with the smell of decadent cakes and pastries made my taste buds tingle. Prague is a truly indulgent experience!
My Wish For You
Whether you're a seasoned ballet enthusiast or just curious about the world of tutus and twirls, I truly believe that Prague is the perfect destination for you. Every corner reveals something new, something wonderful, something magical. And remember, darlings, always remember that the world is your stage, and there's a little bit of ballerina inside every one of us. Go forth and twirl with joy!
I'm off now to find a lovely little café for a hot chocolate and some more story writing!
Until next time, my loves! Stay fashionable, stay glamorous, and most importantly, stay tutu-fully amazing!
Your friend in Pink, Emma
