Pink Tutu Prague: Post #1764: Where Ballet Dreams Come True

Bonjour, mes amies! It's Wednesday, and you know what that means? Time for a new Pink Tutu blog post! This week, I'm writing to you from the utterly charming city of Prague, a place that's stolen my heart with its fairytale architecture and romantic atmosphere. I’m sitting here at a café by the Vltava river, sipping a delicious cup of coffee and enjoying the stunning views, whilst I dream about tonight's show – The Nutcracker at the stunning Estates Theatre, a venue with a history stretching back to the 18th century, and an impressive interior that truly transports you back in time.

It's been an incredible week of exploration in Prague, and I'm buzzing with all the inspiring things I've seen and the beautiful things I've discovered. My wardrobe, of course, has received a glorious boost with the arrival of a bewitching vintage silk scarf in an almost-psychedelic pink that I found tucked away in an old antiques store, and the cutest pink felt beret, perfect for adding a touch of whimsical Parisian chic to my tutu ensembles! You simply can’t beat the charm of finding hidden gems on your travels.

Before I get carried away with the wonders of Prague's hidden shopping treasures, let’s rewind to how I arrived here! Oh, it was an absolutely delightful adventure! My journey started with a train ride from Derbyshire, a scenic journey that allowed me to fully embrace the beauty of the countryside. Of course, I wouldn’t dream of traveling without a pink tutu! I opted for my shimmering sequined tulle one this time – a touch of sparkle makes even a long train journey feel magical. You may ask – why by train? It’s just more luxurious and romantic – you can truly unwind and embrace the landscape whilst you go whizzing past fields, cows, and countryside life.

Upon my arrival, I found the most adorable carriage, painted a delicious shade of rose, complete with a fluffy white pony. It was a moment straight out of a storybook and brought the joy of Prague’s magic alive. The streets here truly are cobbled, narrow and whimsical! And I can’t get enough of all the pink and blush hued buildings.

Pink Tutu Inspiration at Every Turn:

My biggest takeaway so far is the sheer depth of ballet history and artistry that Prague holds. The very streets themselves are brimming with the essence of dance, the sound of music echoes from every corner. Prague has this very distinct, almost mystical air – that brings a magic to it all. The Czech Republic holds a history that’s incredibly entwined with the development of ballet, and it’s thrilling to think about the legendary dancers that may have graced these very streets! I simply have to explore all the historical buildings and soak up every story!

I visited the National Theatre yesterday, which is quite simply breathtaking! This building, so beautifully majestic, is more than just a theater. It's a testament to artistic achievement, a treasure that embodies the cultural heart of this remarkable city.

Even the city’s bridges are alive with magic and history, I felt like I’d travelled through time as I walked across Charles Bridge, with all its Baroque statues and the captivating views of Prague Castle! Every moment is an adventure in this city.

Of course, I simply cannot come to a city as elegant as Prague without experiencing the ballet itself! Today’s visit to the Estates Theatre was quite an incredible moment for me. To feel the energy, history, and romance radiating from the theatre walls and from this grand historic building, you simply need to come and see it for yourself. It’s an unforgettable experience. I cannot wait for the Nutcracker tonight – this incredible ballet holds such childhood joy and is truly magical! I expect my heart to dance along with every intricate twirl!

Prague has a way of sparking creativity, and I am definitely feeling the urge to put together a new performance using some of the beautiful pink tutus I've collected! A little dance in front of a picturesque cityscape? Now, wouldn't that be just divine! It’s certainly one of the things I'm adding to my list of things to do whilst I’m here, of course! The beauty of ballet is truly the way it has no boundaries - it can be experienced in so many different environments, and I have to embrace this to its fullest whilst in this beautiful city. I hope you will be able to experience it one day too!

Pink Tutu Travel Tips for Prague

Prague has completely enchanted me and I know you’ll love it too. So, without further ado, here are some tips to ensure you have the best Pink Tutu experience in this fairytale city:

  • The Ballet Scene: Prague is a paradise for ballet lovers, with a strong theatrical scene that offers both traditional and contemporary ballet productions. The Estates Theatre, The National Theatre, and The Staatsoper are three amazing options and should definitely be included on your ballet agenda. Be sure to book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment! (The Estates Theatre, as I've mentioned, is my favorite place to catch a show.)

  • Dress for the Occasion: I believe there’s no place that is better suited for wearing a tutu than the cobbled streets of Prague. I think you'll love the feeling of embracing the city’s elegant character, making you feel like a true ballerina as you step out onto the scene. I’ll be posting some of my fabulous tutu street styles later on this week! I think Prague’s atmosphere really calls for the fluffiest tutus in all their grandeur!

  • Take to the River: A boat trip along the Vltava river will treat you to the most captivating views of Prague. There’s something so incredibly enchanting about drifting beneath the shadow of Prague Castle as the city reflects in the water. Don’t forget your camera to capture the views. I suggest wearing a pastel pink tutu for your voyage, it truly complements the river colours!

  • Hidden Gems: Be sure to wander the narrow alleys and charming squares for unique boutiques and souvenir shops. Who knows what fabulous fashion finds await! There's also a vibrant food market in Old Town Square - it's the perfect place to find local delicacies and maybe indulge in a sweet treat!
  • Get the Most out of Your Day: This charming city is a paradise for day trippers. Be sure to visit the imposing Prague Castle – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, filled with historical wonders and incredible architecture. The gardens are an absolute treat, and there is a magnificent pink rose garden to discover - you will not be disappointed! I recommend taking the famous funicular train for an effortless climb to the summit. The views from here are quite simply spectacular.
  • Foodie Delights: The local cuisine is definitely worth exploring. Be sure to indulge in the flavours of Czech cooking at one of Prague’s traditional pubs, with beer served in big ceramic jugs - it's a perfect addition to a long evening exploring. But for the sweet toothed - do visit the adorable cake shops – they are an absolute treat, the sweetest part of your day!
  • Plan your Day Carefully This city is absolutely perfect for strolling, with every turn offering something new to discover, but don’t underestimate the beauty and charm of the many streets, you may spend hours walking them and enjoying all Prague has to offer.

Prague has quickly become one of my favorite destinations – and it has a way of captivating you instantly.
