Hello, darling darlings! It's your favourite tutu-loving blogger, Emma, back from a whirlwind week in the breathtakingly beautiful city of Prague. This magical place, brimming with history and a distinctly fairytale vibe, has utterly captivated my heart. And what better place to start my Prague adventure than in the magnificent city centre, just a skip and a hop from the famous Charles Bridge? I was mesmerised by the sheer architectural wonder that greeted me, a symphony of towers and spires soaring skyward.
But, you know me, dear readers, I can't visit a new city without embracing its local colour, and that’s precisely why, right after a quick, luxurious breakfast at my favourite cafe (the coffee here is divine!), I headed straight for the bustling Old Town Square, my trusty pink tutu trailing gloriously behind me.
Let's face it, dear friends, pink tutus aren't exactly the norm in Prague (although a splash of colour would definitely brighten things up, I say!). But, it’s my way, my whimsical ode to femininity and a delightful opportunity to start conversations with the friendly locals. Let's just say the perplexed, but always amused, stares I received were worth the minor sartorial controversy. After all, who says you can't embrace a touch of the theatrical when strolling through the medieval streets?
Speaking of theatricality, I stumbled upon the most charming little ballet studio, tucked away on a quaint cobblestone street. I was absolutely delighted! Who could resist the allure of a few pirouettes amongst the ancient cobblestones, with the backdrop of Prague Castle's magnificent turrets? Oh, the grace, the joy! It truly felt like a ballet scene out of a film, with me in my pink tutu, of course.
Later, I dined at a local restaurant, its charming, intimate setting a perfect compliment to my own romantic aura. I reveled in the delicate flavors of the Czech cuisine – heavenly dumplings, creamy mushroom soup, and mouth-watering, meat-stuffed rolls! It truly was a feast fit for a ballerina, fueling my steps through the charming city.
My journey through the charming streets of Prague wasn’t just about cobblestone promenades and pink tutus though. It also involved indulging in my favourite passion – exploring the world of fashion! As any good ballerina knows, a new city calls for a new outfit or two! The elegant, antique stores, the whimsical boutiques, the chic Parisian-inspired clothing shops… I just couldn’t resist the lure of exquisite silk scarves, velvet jackets, and statement jewellery, all waiting to be unveiled. Prague's fashion scene, much like its history, offers a perfect blend of old-world elegance and modern edge.
After a day of fashion-fueled fun, it was time for the pièce de résistance, my evening outing. This is where I am truly in my element, where I revel in the intoxicating thrill of a night at the theatre, and where the pink tutu comes out to play!
I found myself captivated by a performance at the renowned National Theatre. Oh, the beauty of it! The masterful use of lighting, the awe-inspiring sets, the stunning choreography, and of course, the ballerinas gliding across the stage like graceful swans. It was a performance I’ll never forget, filled with elegance, drama, and sheer beauty. Every movement, every gesture, spoke a silent, universal language of passion and artistry, taking my breath away!
The experience reignited my passion for ballet. In that moment, I realised how profoundly connected I feel to the rich tapestry of this art form, spanning centuries, cultures, and continents. And it inspired me to delve into the ballet history of Prague, learning about the incredible contribution of Czech dancers and choreographers to the world of ballet. I discovered tales of grand ballets staged in the 19th century, and legends of Prague’s most famous ballet dancers, who brought the world of ballet to the forefront of international acclaim. I must confess, it made me immensely proud to be part of this rich tradition.
The following morning, I indulged in a hearty breakfast, the delicious smell of coffee and freshly baked croissants already wafting through the cafe as I woke. A visit to the Národní Muzeum was high on the list for today. There, I embarked on a journey through time, marvelling at exquisite artifacts from Prague's illustrious past.
From there, I meandered to the magical Strahov Library. It is like something out of a fantasy novel – soaring high vaulted ceilings adorned with stunning murals, miles of dusty shelves stacked with ancient volumes, the smell of aged paper filling the air. I wandered for hours, losing myself in the stories locked away on those shelves.
Prague, with its cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and fascinating cultural landscape, had utterly captured my heart. But, the week wasn’t over yet, so it was time for a change of scenery. I embarked on a magical train journey – a truly elegant experience, by the way! The carriage, the view, the leisurely pace, a true delectable journey for a ballet-loving fashionista, like myself!
My destination: The magical town of Kutná Hora. There, amidst charming streets and quaint houses, lay the legendary Sedlec Ossuary. The very name sent a shiver down my spine. Stepping into this room full of thousands of human bones, delicately arranged to form macabre decorations, felt like entering a gothic masterpiece. It's both deeply disturbing and mesmerizing, offering a glimpse into human mortality, which, surprisingly, resonated with the introspective side of my dancer’s soul.
In contrast to the darkness of the Sedlec Ossuary, Kutná Hora was brimming with colourful squares, lively cafes, and stunning gothic architecture. It is a perfect blend of beauty and mystery – and that's a contrast that really resonated with my soul, and definitely provided some compelling “pink tutu-worthy” inspiration for my next blog post!
Oh, before I forget! Did I mention that, in addition to tutus and fashion, I have another love in my life – ponies? This is, after all, how I often navigate my travels. My love for equestrian adventures runs as deep as my love for ballet.
After a rather gruelling, but highly memorable, train journey back to Prague, I embarked on the adventure I had been planning – riding a pony through the beautiful Bohemian countryside. It was everything I had dreamt of, an adventure filled with a fresh, invigorating air, beautiful rolling hills, a dappled forest path, the warmth of the sun on my face, and the soothing rhythmic clip-clop of hooves against the soft earth. It felt like stepping into a painting.
But, as a responsible and well-informed blogger, I also needed to make time to embrace the more “grown-up” side of travel. This is where a good cup of tea, accompanied by a good book, comes in, especially if I happen to be sitting in a cafe with a breathtaking view of Prague’s iconic Prague Castle. The combination truly makes for an afternoon fit for a queen – or, a ballet-loving, pink tutu wearing fashionista.
Now, after an exhilarating week in Prague, it’s time to say goodbye – for now, anyway. But before I leave you to contemplate your own upcoming travels, I'd love to leave you with this little bit of advice: Never underestimate the transformative power of a pink tutu. It's about more than just fashion; it's a symbol of joyful confidence, a celebration of femininity, and a gentle reminder to always add a dash of whimsy to your life. And hey, who knows, perhaps your pink tutu will spark some beautiful moments of joy, just like it has for me in this magical city.
Remember, dear readers, until next week's blog, you can find more pink tutu-tastic adventures on my website www.pink-tutu.com – just click the link on my profile, darling!
Now, it’s time to pack my pink tutu and travel on to new, glamorous adventures, as a ballerina’s life is never complete without a dash of the dramatic. But that, as they say, is another story for another time, and, of course, another pink tutu!
Lots of love,
Emma
