Hello, my darling tutu enthusiasts! It’s Emma here, your resident pink tutu aficionado, writing to you from the heart of Prague. As you all know, this city is on the top of every fashionista’s bucket list. The cobbled streets, the Baroque architecture, and the fairytale atmosphere have me totally enchanted. But let’s be honest, I can’t help but be slightly distracted by the glorious plethora of pink tutus, as I prepare to share a day that has me whirling in a pink-tinged whirlwind of excitement.
This week, we’re venturing out of Derbyshire, England and into the heart of Europe. My pink tutu, my loyal travelling companion, is positively buzzing with anticipation. For it’s not just the city’s historic charm that has us swooning, it’s the magnificent National Theatre’s Giselle performance happening on the 28th November.
Now, I must confess that before my recent pilgrimage to the Musée Carnavalet in Paris, I hadn't truly appreciated the evolution of the tutu! I was enthralled by the displays of historical garments, showcasing their transformative journey. From the long and billowing crinolines of the early ballet, to the streamlined elegance of the Romantic Era, to the bold and expressive designs of the 20th century, tutus have played a key role in the ballet’s aesthetic development, and as always, they just looked fabulous.
In fact, you know, I've found myself daydreaming about creating my own ‘History of Tutu’ show! Imagine – a collection of meticulously-designed tutus showcasing every stage of their development, from the elaborate panniers to the diaphanous and ethereal styles that would have even Tchaikovsky swirling with admiration.
Of course, my little dream is nothing compared to what I'm about to experience in Prague. I've already spotted a fabulous new pink tutu from the local ballet supply store - a vision in blush and feather boa! And I just can't wait to put it to the test at the Giselle performance.
But first, the Prague charm awaits. The Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock are practically calling out for my instagram feed! My camera is practically begging to immortalize this charming city. As we waltz through the city streets, my pink tutu has already garnered its fair share of compliments - proving that the allure of the tutu truly transcends cultures!
However, I wouldn’t be true to myself without a few stylish indulgences. You’d be surprised how easily a girl can fall for the charms of Prague’s boutique scene, it’s so darn easy to lose yourself in the array of vintage clothing shops, jewellery, and craft boutiques. My fingers are itching to acquire new treasures.
Now, onto the heart of our pilgrimage: The National Theatre. This cultural landmark, an architectural gem with its majestic, Renaissance revival architecture, stands tall, reflecting Prague's cultural vibrancy. Just its presence fills you with the energy of an era when ballerinas truly were a sight to behold.
I can't help but get a little goosebumps imagining all the dancers and audience members who have graced the Theatre’s stages through history. And this makes me incredibly excited to see how this timeless performance of Giselle will play out under the gilded ceilings of the National Theatre
There’s just something enchanting about watching ballerinas soar through the air, graceful and elegant. Every flick of their tutu, every intricate turn - it’s all so captivating. And I just know this performance of Giselle will be just as unforgettable as every other ballet performance I've ever attended!
So, to my readers, as you scroll through my upcoming blog post next week – you'll see, it won't just be about tutus. Oh, the beauty of ballet will seep through these posts and weave its way into your lives. And with every twist and turn, my pink tutu and I are determined to add a little bit of joy, fashion and perhaps, even a little bit of fairytale magic into every corner of the globe!
Remember, don't be shy, tell us what you think of my new tutu on instagram - my handle is PinkTutuEmma – you know, in case you needed to check! See you next week for my review of Giselle at the National Theatre, Prague. Until then, keep your twirling toes in tip-top shape, darling tutus, and never forget that the world's a much brighter place with a little bit of pink tutu magic!
Keep twirling,
Emma

A Fashionable Journey Through Prague
But before I completely immerse myself in Giselle, we have a whole beautiful city to explore! You see, my passion for tutus has always been intricately woven with my love of fashion and shopping, so naturally, we couldn't let a trip to Prague pass without indulging in some stylish explorations. Now, I don't know if you have noticed, but Prague is a true fashion paradise, a city bursting with chic boutiques and vintage finds, with enough charming surprises around every corner to put a smile on even the most cynical shopper.
My first stop, a must for every discerning fashionista, was the Pallas Gallery. This grand emporium housed everything from contemporary high-street brands to sophisticated designer labels. And let me tell you, the windows were decked out with enough luxurious flair to make any true fashion lover swoon! It's all about indulging the senses, a haven where you can treat yourself to a well-deserved retail therapy session while absorbing Prague’s elegance and the unique atmosphere of the Art Nouveau architectural wonder.
Of course, no trip to Prague would be complete without delving into the hidden gem that is the Národní divadlo's costume design archive . Yes, dear readers, you read correctly – an absolute haven of historical treasures and a fashion enthusiast's dream!
While it isn't open to the public every day, the chance to step back in time, amongst the layers and folds of hand-stitched masterpieces that adorn the stages of this majestic theater, is nothing short of extraordinary. The details, the techniques - they spoke volumes of a time where craft and artistry held centre stage. It made me appreciate how costumes are more than just clothing; they transport the audience and actors into other worlds.
Now, you know me well, you know I can't resist a good bargain. Therefore, my hunt for treasures continued. I managed to snag some seriously unique vintage finds at the VINTAGE & BROKANT markets on Žitná Street. My eye fell on a gorgeous vintage scarf - it practically begged me to take it home! The colours, the textures, it was pure vintage charm! This, along with the incredible vintage clothing from another nearby store - let’s call it a *‘vintage tutu lover’s heaven’, *- truly made my day!
This city overflows with cultural heritage and hidden treasures. The fashion-conscious traveler can discover authentic and exquisite souvenirs: handcrafted jewellery, artisanal leather goods, and handcrafted fashion accessories made by local artists. Oh, don’t even get me started on the vibrant street art scenes; I've spotted tutus in the most unexpected locations!
The day flew by, each moment a stylish discovery waiting to happen, Each boutique, a kaleidoscope of vintage chic, a vibrant street art scene - I even managed to spot a ballerina performing at a pedestrian street show. It's no wonder why Prague's reputation precedes itself – there is simply so much charm in every corner of this captivating city!
But alas, even with a neverending list of fashion adventures waiting for me, I have a date with the ballet - and trust me, this is a performance I don't want to miss!
Dancing Through the Night at GiselleSo, with my tutu in hand and a heart filled with joy, I found myself surrounded by the majestic charm of the National Theatre, a landmark with such a grand architectural beauty it's like something straight out of a fairy tale. I could barely contain my excitement - the energy inside was palpable.
The atmosphere was alive with anticipation and dressed-up ladies. A ballet performance brings out the best in fashion, so you know I was excited to see the flair that unfolded! Every single lady entering was rocking a little touch of style, whether it was a glamorous gown, a daring statement piece or an elegant tutu-inspired ensemble! For a minute, I almost forgot that the tutus I was wearing were just for ballet practice - and not necessarily suited for high society gatherings!
My heart was pounding in my chest. My fingers clutched the delicate tulle, anticipating the magic about to unfold on stage. The music soared through the grand hall - a blend of haunting notes and soaring melodies - setting the scene for this incredible love story. I watched the characters fall in and out of love, experience moments of both great joy and heartbreak - everything was felt through the grace and precision of their movements!
There was a certain romantic and delicate quality about Giselle that resonated deep within my soul. I wasn’t just watching the performance - I felt I was swept up into a different time with the dancers and the music. Their every gesture, their emotions - everything felt true and heartfelt.
It was truly an enchanting evening. I have to say, I'm incredibly thankful to be able to travel, and indulge in the wonders of ballet, which I consider a cultural treasure worthy of celebrating throughout the world. This is truly the most beautiful way to spend an evening in the heart of Prague - I feel inspired by the artistic energy, and the sense of historical depth and wonder.
And the pink tutu was certainly feeling the love, receiving admiring glances from fellow theater-goers as we made our way out in the twilight to discover the wonders of a lit-up city after a performance! My tutu even scored me a conversation with an adorable little ballerina-in-training! I swear, those twinkling eyes are a perfect embodiment of how inspiring ballet can be for people of all ages!
Oh, to be surrounded by beauty and creativity like this! It's a truly captivating city that seems made for dreamers and wanderers. And with a pink tutu at your side - it's truly a wonderful experience!
Reflections on the City of DreamsAs the week draws to a close, my pink tutu and I have packed up our bags, and said na shledanou to this beguiling city. We are leaving with hearts full of inspiration and bags full of fashion discoveries. From the stunning architectural masterpieces and hidden boutiques to the soul-stirring ballet and vintage finds - Prague is a city full of wonder, enchantment and fashion! And as I head back to Derbyshire, England and my next ballet performance - I can’t help but wonder – what magic awaits me next?
My tutu and I are always ready to embark on the next adventure, armed with my dancing shoes and a touch of pink tutu magic. Because in this colorful, bright world of tutus, ballet, and fashion - anything is possible!
Until next week, my darling readers! Stay inspired!
