I was absolutely thrilled to get my dancing shoes on and see what the local winter ballet scene had in store for us.

Sparkling Debut at the Crosby Ballet Theatre:
First stop was the Crosby Ballet Theatre, the quintessential "old-school elegance meets modern sparkle" venue, adorned with twinkling lights that felt like a million stars. The programme started with a beautiful, traditional “Nutcracker” which perfectly captured that Christmas magic. You know those moments when you're so captivated by the beauty, your breath just catches in your throat? The entire theatre held its breath during the Snow Queen's ethereal waltz, it was magical!
And then… the unexpected! A dazzling flash of pink and glitter filled the stage… oh, it was the “Pink Flamingo Tango”, an absolute riot of vibrant dance, a disco-tastic spectacle. Suddenly the "Nutcracker's" traditional beauty was given a glamorous makeover. We were transported from Tchaikovsky’s romantic dreamland straight to a sparkling disco den. Imagine bright, bold costumes, incredible music, and enough sparkle to make your eyes water - I loved it! It was a delightful fusion of classic ballet with modern fun.
Whirlwind of Joy at the Coastal Ballet Company:
Next, a quick taxi ride across Crosby to the Coastal Ballet Company, a venue buzzing with a young, energetic vibe. My friend Jess had raved about the show, and let me tell you - she was spot on!
The "FairyTale Symphony" performance was a triumph of youth and fresh, joyful energy. The story was a sweet amalgam of familiar fairytale tropes, with beautiful choreographed storytelling. It was genuinely heart-warming. There’s something about witnessing young talent flourish and the joy they exude on stage, it just warms your soul!
The second piece on the programme was an inventive, fun “Urban Tango”. Now, you know I’m all about the glitter and disco balls, but this piece took us to a whole other dimension with its raw passion. The performers used the whole space, they were truly powerful. I was reminded of that captivating, dynamic energy I fell in love with at my first dance class.
Dancing into the New Year at the Crosby School of Ballet
My final ballet adventure in this winter wonderland brought me to the Crosby School of Ballet. It's always a pleasure to support local talent, and I’m delighted to see the rising generation of ballet stars right here in Crosby. This was the perfect showcase for future stars in the making.
The school’s performance, a delightful medley of classical pieces showcased each student’s individual strengths and unique talent. There was so much heart and effort put into each dance - and yes, plenty of adorable, twirly tutus! I was impressed by their discipline and artistry. And that audience? They were in love! I felt a strong sense of community, shared appreciation for the art form, and pride for local talent.

Overall, this winter ballet season in Crosby has been an absolute triumph!
