Winter Ballet Season in London

London: Twirling into Winter Wonderland! 🩰❄️

Hey lovelies! Emma here, back with a sparkly review of London’s winter ballet season. Honestly, there’s just something magical about the crisp air and the twinkling lights, combined with the elegant artistry of the dance. It's a truly special time, and this year has been no exception.

Let's face it, winter is a fabulous time to get your cultural fix. Those crisp December evenings, with a warm drink and the glitz of the theatre all around - it's pure romance! But the best part? Well, it’s all about the tutus, darlings. There’s no better way to banish the winter blues than to be swept away by a cloud of pink tulle, is there?

Whirlwind of Romance at the Royal Opera House

Kicking off the season, I saw the Royal Ballet in their production of Giselle. Goodness, it was breath-taking. The staging was opulent, the dancing exquisite. The first act, filled with those gorgeous village maidens - oh, I could just die for their costumes - and then that dramatic turn as the innocent Giselle turns into a vengeful Wilis? Talk about chills down your spine!

For those who love the drama of ballet, Giselle never fails to deliver. This production was just perfect, a whirlwind of love, betrayal, and chilling romance. And you know me, I love a good story!

The Sugar Plum Fairy: Nutcracker at the Coliseum

Now, if there's one show that screams "Christmas" and sparkle, it's The Nutcracker. The English National Ballet absolutely nailed this classic. It was a treat for the senses - the festive sets, the magical snow scene, and the gorgeous, swirling ballerinas - truly the perfect Christmas spectacle. I just adored the costumes - the little angels were divine, and of course, who can resist the iconic Sugar Plum Fairy’s pink tutu?!

One thing I absolutely love about this production is that it's so perfect for everyone - from the little ones with their wide, mesmerised eyes to the grown-up ballet fans like me, who appreciate the artistry and elegance of it all.

Disco Fever at Sadler’s Wells

Speaking of fun, we're not always about those classical productions, are we? That’s why Sadler’s Wells is always at the top of my list for discovering new and exciting choreographers.

This year I saw the fantastic Rambert Dance Company in their new production “Fever.” Now, we’re talking about some seriously cool moves, guys. Think disco, funk and an incredible sense of energy! The choreography was fresh and thrilling, and the use of light and sound just took it to another level. For those who prefer their ballet with a modern edge, Fever was truly an explosive performance!

My Tutu Must-Have: Ballet Essentials

Winter or summer, there’s always something amazing to see on London's ballet scene. But for a night at the theatre, these are my essential outfit must-haves:

  1. *The statement piece: * For me, it's a must have a little bit of sparkle! My favourite piece? This absolutely glorious sequin top - think champagne gold, dripping with luxury. It's just perfect for a night out at the theatre, and it makes a real statement!

  2. The finishing touch: No outfit is complete without a chic little clutch bag! This one, a stunning navy with gold embellishments, adds that touch of glamour. Plus, it's the perfect size to hold all my essentials: lipstick, mirror, phone - everything a girl needs to make sure she’s looking her best!

  3. The ultimate accessory: A gorgeous pair of statement earrings, obviously! These are my go-to picks - elegant gold drops that shimmer in the theatre lights.

Of course, my most essential accessory for ballet? That's my trusty, classic black ballet flat - perfect for navigating all those long aisles at the theatre, and a bit more comfortable than my killer heels!
