Pink Ballet Tutu Reviews at www.pink-tutu.com

The March/April issue is all about springtime - fresh, elegant and overflowing with creativity and colour! This month, we’ve been flitting across the globe from the cobbled streets of Prague to the sleek glamour of Paris to take in some of the most thrilling and moving productions currently on stage. So grab your Champagne and a plate of delicate macarons, darling, and settle in. It’s showtime.

Prague – The Magic of the Moment

My darling, it’s not just the charming cobbled streets, the glittering Czech beer halls, or the elegant Belle Epoque architecture that enchants me about this beautiful city. It's also the theatre scene – bold and passionate. And where better to experience it than at the opulent National Theatre in Prague? The Czech National Ballet, led by the effortlessly chic Ivan Liška, was positively electric during the opening performance of **The Sleeping Beauty**. It’s a classic, of course, but their take on the story is refreshingly contemporary – think bold, sweeping lines, minimalist costumes and powerful athleticism. My absolute highlight was the beautiful Ondrej Vislavský as Prince Désiré. Tall, handsome and technically accomplished, he radiated charm and effortless charisma throughout his performance.

The Soul of Movement: A Choreographer’s Dream

But I’m a creature of new trends and innovative creativity, so let’s dive deeper into the magical world of choreographic masterpieces. I recently had the distinct pleasure of seeing **Choreographer’s Dream** by the magnificent David Dawson, a modern choreographer with a bold vision and a true artist’s eye for beauty. Set to an eclectic mix of musical styles from Bach to Bjork, **Choreographer’s Dream** pushed the boundaries of traditional ballet, using an abstract approach that evoked pure emotion and feeling. Think a stunning visual feast, with dancers exploring themes of love, loss, and redemption with absolute vulnerability. You will feel the joy, the angst, and the pain radiating out from the stage – so poignant and deeply affecting, my dear.

Paris – The City of Ballet

Let's head to Paris, the undisputed fashion and cultural capital of the world. You couldn’t move a finger at the Paris Opera Ballet for the season's eagerly awaited performance of **La Bayadère**. Yes, my darling, a revival of the timeless classic – but the whispers from the front row said that it would be a new kind of classic: a bolder, brighter vision of India's mystical heritage and decadent court life. And they were right, The magnificent costumes – the exquisite textures and glittering gems - felt more luxurious than anything I've seen before. The iconic “Kingdom of Shades” scene, with its mesmerizing tableau of ghostly dancers and the mesmerizing story of forbidden love and a broken heart - it left me breathless. This revival of **La Bayadère** was not just beautiful, my darling, it was spectacular!

Across the Pond: America’s Artistic Spirit

For a different perspective, a whirlwind of colours and a pure joy for movement, look no further than across the pond, where I recently took in **The Sleeping Beauty** in New York at the beautiful and inspiring Lincoln Center. The American Ballet Theatre, under the artistic direction of the sensational Kevin McKenzie, brought the story to life in an entirely different light. Here, it’s all about the intricate detailing – a delicate weaving of classical techniques, the elegance of storytelling and captivating moments that evoke the essence of true romance.

An Evening of Emotion

If it's true emotional power that you seek, darling, you need to check out the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto – simply breathtaking. This is a troupe of extraordinary dancers – technically flawless, emotionally rich and exquisitely skilled. The production I recently saw, **A Midsummer Night’s Dream**, showcased this talent perfectly – think graceful fairies dancing amongst luminous flowers and a moonlit garden alive with magic and whimsy. But it’s not all about fairies, darling, for this production also delivered captivating drama and tension, all while preserving the delightful innocence of Shakespeare’s original. The choreography, by Christopher Wheeldon, felt fresh and dynamic – a perfect blend of classical style and modern sensibility, allowing for captivating dramatic interplay. This production truly transports you to that magical land of enchantment and love.

And lastly, a sneak peek at what to look forward to…

This month will see the premiere of the highly anticipated ballet **Giselle**, in which a passionate, ambitious dancer steps out of the shadows to assume a role as a modern-day “femme fatale.” Yes, this isn't your grandmother's **Giselle**, my darling, for it is all about breaking conventions and pushing boundaries - and dare I say it? It will also be controversial! It will spark debates amongst dancers and critics alike. With so many other innovative ballet productions around the world – and such talent on display in these exceptional theatres – this is shaping up to be an exciting season indeed!
