September: A whirl of tulle and talent

Darling, September arrived like a mischievous little sprite, teasing us with the first chilly air and whispers of autumn. I'm simply not ready for that, you know? I much prefer the languor of summer, sipping iced tea in the dappled shade, a touch of sun-kissed skin. But like a whirl of tulle, the new season has already brought with it a kaleidoscope of ballet and theatrical delights, and who am I to resist? Let's dive right in!

On Pointe, Across the Pond

Oh, the exquisite thrill of London in September! This month saw the reopening of the Royal Opera House, and let me tell you, darling, it was simply exquisite! The opening night production of Giselle was a truly magnificent affair. My dear Natalia Osipova, a divine creature with a talent that transcends the mundane, danced with a heart-wrenching passion I had never seen before. She brought the character of Giselle to life with such authenticity you felt the heartbreak right in your bones. Her ethereal grace and poise were nothing short of breathtaking. And, of course, a ballerina's attire is never to be overlooked, and hers, a vision of white tulle and diamond details, perfectly captured the fragility and elegance of Giselle.

Parisian Pas de Deux

Now, if London has the history and the heart, Paris simply knows how to create a truly magnetic atmosphere. I was lucky enough to catch the new production of "Swan Lake" at the Opéra Garnier, a truly spectacular occasion. The grand hall, its ceiling painted with glittering stars, was an absolute feast for the eyes. The dance was simply magnificent, a mesmerizing blend of passion and elegance, the contrast of the darker, stronger Prince and the graceful fragility of Odette and Odile expertly captured by the incredible dancers. I especially loved the way the production utilized light, casting ethereal shadows across the stage and creating a sense of magic, and of course the costume design - simply exquisite. I particularly adored Odette's all white tulle costume with it's delicate floral detail - perfect for an icy yet elegant princess!

A Journey to the Orient

I wouldn't be a true dancer, darling, if I didn't venture beyond Europe this season. This time my journey took me to Tokyo, a city pulsing with energy, and I found myself mesmerized by the Azuma Kabuki Company's production of "Hanuman" . It was truly unlike anything I've ever seen before! The blend of ancient traditions, elaborate costumes (think layers of brocade and glittering gold!), and the powerful story of Hanuman's epic journey made me feel like I'd traveled through time. There was a kinetic energy, a vibrancy on the stage that just wouldn't quit. You can't escape the power of tradition, especially when performed with such energy and passion. I am so grateful to have witnessed it firsthand. From Ballet to Broadway

It wouldn't be a September without a trip to Broadway darling. After all, we need a bit of lighthearted fun. Now I've always loved a bit of a good musical, but nothing can prepare you for "The Lion King." A masterpiece, that's what it is! The puppetry is simply mind-blowing, the costumes a delight, and the soundtrack had me singing all the way home! Of course, nothing quite compares to seeing a show in NYC, the very energy of the city feels like it's pulsating in the air. It's no wonder this is a global cultural icon, with the music so vibrant and the performances so captivating, "The Lion King" is a real triumph! Art's Extravaganza

Of course, dear darling, September would never be complete without a dose of visual art. This year I was absolutely mesmerized by the work of French artist Sophie Calle at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. I’m a true sucker for photography, but this show was just captivating! It felt so personal, so honest. The exhibition focused on her own journey through her own emotional turmoil using photography, film, and text. The combination of beauty and vulnerability was just magnificent. I felt completely drawn into the heart of her experiences and I walked out of the exhibition a bit more intrigued about my own inner landscape.

And what could be more fitting than to end our whirlwind of September experiences on a bold, unapologetic note, than the "Sensation" exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, in London! The world's greatest and most daring art collectors, darling, and the boldest contemporary artists on the scene - what else can I say? It's certainly a bold choice and an exciting one too!

Well, there we have it darling! Another whirlwind month of ballet and art. As the leaves start to turn their vibrant autumnal hues we’re ready for more beauty, more excitement, and a good deal more glamour. Now let’s put on that stunning new Chanel dress we picked up in Paris and get out there, dear!
