Ciao bella! 👋 Emma here, back with another instalment of my Roman adventures! As you know, last week we embarked on this exciting journey, a magical trip to the Eternal City, the place where history dances with modern life.
I’ve landed here in Rome, Italy and it is the most exciting feeling! Imagine it; sun-kissed cobblestone streets, ancient ruins around every corner, the sound of scooters buzzing past, and an intoxicating mix of pizza, pasta and laughter in the air - it’s pure magic. And, of course, my pink tutu is absolutely at home amongst the colourful piazzas and flamboyant street style!
A Ballet Lover’s Paradise: The Opera House
I was a little nervous about coming to a country known for opera rather than ballet, but I soon found that my anxieties were completely misplaced. The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the city's stunning opera house, has become my favourite spot! I can’t quite believe I have access to world-class opera AND ballet here in this incredible venue. I’ve been absolutely spoiled this week with an exquisite performance of 'Giselle'. Watching ballerinas glide across the stage in beautiful costumes was breathtaking! It was as if the history of this ancient city itself was woven into every movement. It honestly felt like I’d travelled back in time. And you can bet, the opera house’s glamorous interior definitely offered ample opportunities for fabulous #pinktutu pics – after all, it is all about finding the perfect light for that perfect Instagram!
A Whirlwind of Fashion
Rome, you truly are a style inspiration! Every single day, I'm utterly mesmerized by the city’s flair for fashion. The men and women, the shop window displays - all beautifully curated. This is not just a shopping trip, it’s a lesson in style! It’s like stepping into a fashion magazine. It has sparked an array of ideas for my own pink tutu wardrobe, with the colours, patterns and fabrics all inspiring a new set of designs.
Of course, no trip to Italy would be complete without a little dose of designer shopping. And with my performance money burning a hole in my pocket, you can be certain I am making the most of this opportunity! This week, I discovered a tiny, hidden gem of a boutique near the Trevi Fountain - full of handmade silk scarves and vintage jewellery! Oh, my darlings, you won't believe the dazzling selection! And, of course, with a vibrant red and pink theme, it couldn’t have been more perfect for a Pink Tutu shopper! I even managed to snag a beautiful scarlet clutch bag with exquisite floral embroidery – absolutely stunning!
Food, Glorious Food!
Rome isn’t just about ancient history, art and fashion – it’s a feast for the senses! And let’s not forget my all-time favourite thing about travelling - discovering the culinary delights of each destination!
Italy is of course a pizza paradise! It is such a staple, I know it will make a frequent appearance throughout this whole trip. The taste of fresh mozzarella and crispy crust, combined with the fragrant tomato sauce - oh my goodness, I'm lost for words! Of course, I've also been indulging in the decadent pastas; from spaghetti carbonara to creamy ricotta gnocchi, every bite has been an explosion of flavor!
Living la dolce vita
I'm just going to leave this here, and you'll know what I'm talking about. As if all the other delights weren't enough, we’re also discovering the sheer beauty and laidback atmosphere of Rome. Just spending a day walking through the streets, breathing in the atmosphere of the piazzas, soaking up the sun with a gelato in hand – there's just a magic to it, an easygoing grace that reminds you to live in the moment.
And there is truly nowhere better than to enjoy this atmosphere than in Trastevere. A charming neighbourhood nestled near the Tiber river, it's known for its charming streets, colourful houses and buzzing atmosphere - it has everything! From adorable restaurants serving fresh pasta, to the scent of street food from charming little vendors - it's just magic. I can definitely see myself wandering the cobblestone alleyways, exploring every corner and hidden nook - discovering treasures, sipping on Italian espresso, all whilst being serenaded by the soothing notes of a street performer’s guitar. And you know I'll be embracing the moment, spinning under the Tuscan sun, wearing my pink tutu, of course.
Travelling in style, on the Rails
Let’s get this straight, any trip with a Pink Tutu must include travel by train. It’s the only way to go! You know I am completely and utterly in love with the experience of gliding through the countryside on board a train, it feels utterly luxurious. And it allows for the perfect opportunities to embrace that quintessential Pink Tutu traveller's lifestyle; comfy yet stylish travel, with the ultimate accessory – my pink tutu of course. (Let's face it, it's much more practical than an itchy formal gown, not that I would be caught dead wearing anything other than a tutu!).
I’ve just finished up another stunning train journey from Venice, Italy to here in Rome and you'll be surprised at just how glamorous train travel can be - imagine Italian marble floors, soft leather seating, a sparkling glass of prosecco – absolute bliss!
I know that a train trip isn't necessarily a part of everybody’s ‘luxury’ travel experience - but I want to share how truly spectacular it can be, and it certainly has a part to play in the ‘pink tutu lifestyle.’ It is about embracing the journey itself, just as much as the destination.
So, there we have it - Another ‘pink tutu’ adventure. Stay tuned, as the rest of my Italian journey has yet to unfold. I can’t wait to explore Rome, experience Florence and take in the vibrant energy of the Amalfi Coast in a pink tutu, of course!
