Pink Tutu Rome: #3 ā Eternal City, Eternal Sparkle!
Ciao, darlings!
Welcome back to Pink Tutu Rome, my weekly musings from the heart of Italy! Today, June 28th, 1995, the sun is shining bright, the birds are singing, and the air is buzzing with the vibrant energy that only Rome can deliver. And me? Well, I'm spinning with joy! It's a true treat to be here, surrounded by ancient history, breathtaking architecture, and of course, the delicious aroma of freshly baked pastries.
This week, I've been doing what I do best - exploring, admiring, and soaking up the magic of this wonderful city! Now, let me tell you, dear readers, it's a very pink world out here, but don't be fooled by the colour - it's much more than just pastel prettiness! Rome has depth, romance, and a fiery passion that's just waiting to be discovered.
A Whirl Through History
Our week began with a visit to the Colosseum, the most famous amphitheatre in the world! It's absolutely staggering. Imagine thousands of people, the roar of the crowd, gladiators fighting in the arenaā¦ Romeās history literally pulsated from those ancient stones! Standing on those ancient foundations, I couldnāt help but dream about all the theatrical performances, dramatic dances, and theatrical presentations that would have once taken place there. Just imagine the costumes, the choreography, the artistryā¦ it would have been truly spectacular!
Afterwards, we ventured through the heart of Rome, navigating the charming cobbled streets of the ancient city centre. We passed under the iconic arches of the Roman Forum, marvelling at the power and splendour of a long-forgotten civilisation. Even the air felt infused with a different kind of energy. Every corner seemed to whisper secrets of Emperors and emperors, battles and triumphs. There was definitely something undeniably special about wandering amongst such relics of the past.
And of course, no visit to Rome is complete without seeing the Trevi Fountain. Now, you might think a fountain wouldnāt hold much appeal to a girl like me, who prefers swirling pirouettes and perfectly executed arabesques. But trust me, dear reader, the Trevi Fountain is a sight to behold! And the crowds! Oh, my goodness, the crowds! People from all over the globe are just transfixed by it - a sea of smiles, and awe. I guess beauty has a universal language.
Pink Princess, Roman Revelations
Rome truly is a fashion-loversā paradise. I've spent the past few days scouring the beautiful boutiques, seeking out exquisite fabric, daring designs, and eye-catching pieces to bring a touch of "pink tutu" to my wardrobe. Thereās nothing quite like the thrill of the hunt ā searching out the most beautiful clothes in the most fabulous cities. And Rome certainly delivered in spades!
From vibrant, jewel-toned silks and flowing, ethereal fabrics to quirky, vintage accessories, this city is overflowing with style! The boutiques, with their stunning displays of haute couture and classic Italian elegance, were an absolute dream. And even the streets buzz with a unique fashion vibrancy that was impossible to ignore! Oh, my dears, I may be wearing a pink tutu but I can tell you that my pink tutuās feeling VERY proud to be in this magnificent city! And for once, I havenāt been tempted to pick out any tutus ā though letās face it, every dayās a tutu day if youāve got the confidence to make it so.
And talking about confidence, dear reader, I simply HAVE to share the inspiration that came my way at La Scala, the iconic opera house! There I witnessed one of the most dazzling performances of ballet Iāve ever experienced. It felt almost magical, to be in a venue that had held some of the world's greatest performers - the beauty and power of music and movement transcended languages, filling the auditorium with emotions, a symphony of movement and music.
Foodie Fun and a Train to Take
Of course, every visit to Rome includes indulging in its incredible food. Every corner whispers a culinary delight. From creamy gelato to cheesy pasta dishes, everything has been delicious!
I've had some fantastic pizzas at La Scialla - seriously good stuff! My darling mama taught me all about a delicate touch with pesto in my early years, but you have to try Italian pesto. Oh dear reader, it was a revelation - like a sweet, earthy dream, a dream in pesto form. And I was completely spoilt rotten by my brother who whisked me away for an afternoon with him at a beautiful trattoria - simple, delicious food - like home cooking with a twist of Italian magic.
However, all good things must come to an end. I'm sadly departing from Rome tomorrow, ready for a new adventure - I have a new, exciting project I've been working on. And this one involves taking the train. Thatās right dear reader! The next step of my Pink Tutu Tour involves embarking on the next leg of the journey via train - this will be my third journey by train as part of my pink tutu tour of Europe - I'm really excited about this new adventure.
And of course, what's an adventure without a fabulous new outfit! So, keep an eye on pink-tutu.com, my dear readers, for a very special reveal very soon!
For now, itās āCiao bellaā from Rome! And please donāt forget, always wear your pink tutu with pride and a smile. I know that's easier said than done when you're navigating crowds on the streets of Rome. But the power of pink is with you.
Keep those twirls turning!
Until next Wednesday, darlings!
Yours, Emma xxx
