Pink Tutu Rome: Week 10 - La Dolce Vita!

Ciao Bella!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another instalment of Pink Tutu Rome, direct from the cobbled streets and piazzas of the Eternal City. I've been here for almost three weeks now, and honestly, I don't want to leave. Every corner, every fountain, every gelato stand is a postcard waiting to be snapped. This city is pure magic.

Remember, you can follow all my adventures over on www.pink-tutu.com, where I post every Wednesday with a new Pink Tutu travel blog from around the world. Iā€™m always on the hunt for that perfect photo, that magical performance, and that dazzling outfit.

This week, I'm embracing the quintessential Roman experience. Picture it: me, tumbling down a narrow, ancient cobblestone street in a bubblegum pink tulle tutu. Sunshine streaming through the arches, laughter echoing off the weathered buildings, the aroma of freshly baked bread and strong Italian coffee wafting in the air. That's my Roman dream, and this week, I'm living it.

From Derby to the Coliseum:

For this trip, I left the hustle and bustle of Derby behind. It's not often I get to pack my sparkly pink tutu case alongside my well-worn travel backpack. Honestly, Iā€™ve had some stares on the Italian trains, and not all of them were negative ā€“ although I did have one older gentleman, bless him, look at me with a raised eyebrow and shake his head. Bless his cotton socks!

You see, I do what I want when it comes to my wardrobe and travelling style. Why conform to boring clothes when I can rock a tutu wherever I go? After all, I am Pink Tutu, and this is how I do the whole ā€œla dolce vitaā€ thing!

Todayā€™s adventure - Ancient Rome:

So todayā€™s big day ā€“ the Roman Coliseum! Yes, the massive oval amphitheater where gladiators once fought! And what did I wear to explore this majestic marvel of engineering? Of course, my pale pink tutu and a cherry-red top! Now I know that a lot of people think you need to wear khaki and a sun hat to go to the Coliseum but thatā€™s not my style at all. I like to add a little bit of sparkle wherever I go. Plus, who wouldn't want a photo with this iconic monument whilst twirling in a tutu? I bet that was the last thing anyone expected to see, but the tourists loved it. And it wasnā€™t just the tourists who liked it ā€“ some local Roman teenagers asked to take photos of me in front of the Colosseum and said that my tutu looked ā€œfantastic,ā€ ā€œstupendaā€ and ā€œbella.ā€ High praise indeed!

You can check out all my amazing Colosseum pictures on my Pink Tutu Instagram. You can follow me on Instagram @PinkTutu if you havenā€™t already, and youā€™re welcome to follow me on TikTok too @PinkTutu.

Exploring the City:

Rome is an amazing city full of surprises, it's definitely a place for people who appreciate history, architecture and fashion! Itā€™s not hard to fall in love with this captivating place. The ancient Roman ruins, the baroque architecture, the stunning art and the fashionā€¦ It all whispers with centuries of history and creativity. And, yes, even with a few sprinkles of pink tutu magic!

Speaking of fashion, I've already fallen in love with Roman fashion ā€“ thereā€™s a certain elegance here. Think tailored suits with stylish details, flowing silk skirts, vibrant colours, and an effortless charm. You'll find local shops and designer boutiques showcasing the very best of Italian fashion, with stunning leather goods, beautiful footwear and eye-catching accessories everywhere you look.

And whatā€™s Rome without shopping? It's definitely a paradise for a shopaholic like me! Every day Iā€™m scouring the boutiques, from independent shops and hidden market stalls to high-end designers. But my top tip is, donā€™t just go to the famous designer names. Explore, have a wander and youā€™ll find hidden gems of local artisan crafts, beautiful bags, handmade jewellery, silk scarves and the most delicate linen. This weekend, Iā€™m off to visit the Via Condotti where all the designers are - so check out next week's post to see my hauls!

The Heart of the City:

This week I've already fallen in love with some hidden gems. Iā€™m a big fan of a good art gallery. If you find yourself looking for something truly special, head to the Borghese Gallery ā€“ itā€™s filled with exquisite sculptures by Bernini and paintings by Caravaggio, Raphael, and Titian. This museum also houses a fantastic collection of antiquities and some breathtaking gardens, a real must-see!

My heart's a little bit fonder of Rome every day. You've got the energy and creativity, the passion for food, the buzzing streets with music and laughter. This place is overflowing with character.

Time for gelato:

Of course, no Rome adventure is complete without gelato! I'm talking about real, authentic, hand-crafted Italian gelato. Think creamy, melt-in-your-mouth flavours with ingredients that scream "freshest of the fresh." The gelaterias in Rome are truly amazing. Iā€™ve tried hazelnut, pistachio, berry sorbet, lemon and ricotta with figs, all so good, and all washed down with a strong coffee. I always try a new flavour or two every day.

Speaking of food ā€“ Iā€™ve become completely smitten with the delicious dishes on offer at Roman trattorias, trattorie and little hole-in-the-wall cafes. It's all about fresh, local produce and a good dollop of pasta sauce! I am completely addicted to their handmade pasta with the freshest basil pesto. Itā€™s simply divine.

Life's a Ballet, So I Twirl My Way Around the City

This trip is also all about my love for ballet, and Rome doesn't disappoint. Tonight, Iā€™m going to catch a ballet performance at the Teatro dellā€™Opera. Imagine me in a bright pink tulle tutu against a backdrop of historic Roman architecture. A true fusion of my passion and the magic of this city. Youā€™ll be able to follow the whole thing on Instagram Live tonight at 8:00 pm British time! So tune in and have a good olā€™ fashioned ā€˜ballet chatā€™ with me!

Iā€™ll be sharing videos, thoughts and of course some fab pictures of the performance too. Iā€™m a real ballet fanatic, so expect to see all the classic repertoire and all the latest creations - itā€™s going to be a dream come true. This evening, the Theatre is putting on La Bayadere - which means the tutus are going to be spectacular! Youā€™ll be seeing my full tulle skirt outfit tonight!

Rome has a rich tradition in the art form too, with ballet companies performing all year round, including the internationally acclaimed Teatro dellā€™Opera di Roma. And thatā€™s not all - youā€™ve got the Rome Opera Ballet, Rome International Ballet Competition - just about every dance style and form, and of course ballet too! I plan to attend at least three more shows this week - check out my blog next week for my reviews of those - including the latest ā€˜Moulin Rougeā€™ show in town which features amazing dancing, dazzling costumes and stunning costumes ā€“ what could be better than that?

And if all that wasn't enough, I also found a fab dance school, La Scuola di Danza Rome, and have just signed up for their intensive ballet course for the weekend. This means itā€™s a crash course in Italian, ballet techniques, ballet choreography and classical style! Of course, Iā€™ll be wearing my most vibrant, shocking pink tulle tutu! Canā€™t wait to see if any of the local ballet schools take a chance on the Pink Tutu girl!

Bringing a Little Pink Magic to Rome:

There's nothing like a bright pink tutu to add a touch of joy and cheer wherever you go! And guess what, the people of Rome have embraced my love for tutus! They really seem to like my Pink Tutu look. This week, I met the kindest shopkeepers, artists and tourists, and it seems a lot of them have seen the ā€œPink Tutu effectā€ too.
This is what I live for, to get people into tutus and to put a smile on their face. It makes me feel amazing - to know I have made them feel good.

Well, that's all for this week, Rome! Ciao! Remember, join me next Wednesday for a fresh adventure. Be sure to follow www.pink-tutu.com for the latest fashion updates, city explorations, dance reviews and of course all the travels and triumphs of a ballet-loving girl in a pink tutu!

Till next Wednesday!

Much love and lots of tutu kisses from

Emma xx
