Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 1996-01-10 - A Tutu-tiful Time in the Eternal City! 🩰🇮🇹

Hello darlings! Welcome back to another week of Pink Tutu Rome, where we’re embracing all things pink, fluffy, and fabulous whilst exploring the Eternal City! This is post number 31 for my Roman adventures, and it’s already turning out to be a total dream! I can’t believe it’s already been six weeks since I arrived in this captivating city. Time truly flies when you’re surrounded by ancient ruins, delicious food, and breathtaking art!

Speaking of breathtaking, I’ve been living for the ballet scene here in Rome. It’s so refreshing to be in a city that truly appreciates the elegance and beauty of classical dance. Last night, I was lucky enough to catch a performance of La Bayadère at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. I was transported to a world of vibrant colours, soaring leaps, and heart-wrenching emotions! And let me tell you, it was nothing short of stunning! The dancers were phenomenal, and the costumes were exquisite - a vision of glittering pink tulle and flowing silks. You can find my review of the show over on www.pink-tutu.com, as always!

But Rome isn’t just about grand opera houses, you know. I’ve been exploring the lesser-known corners of this city, finding hidden gems and quirky cafes where the aroma of coffee and pastries wafts through the air like a whispered promise. My absolute favourite thing to do is just wander around, soaking in the sights and sounds. You’d be surprised at the interesting characters you encounter, especially when you’re wearing a pink tutu, darling!

Today, I’m making my way to the Teatro Argentina. This theatre dates back to the 18th century and boasts a rich history. There’s even a ghost story or two connected to it! I’ve heard the building is magnificent. You wouldn’t think of seeing ballet in such a traditional and historic space, but who knows! I’ve even heard they offer tours, so I might just take a peek inside! Maybe even get some inspiration for a future ballet performance.

Speaking of performances, this is how I fund my travelling! Yes, you read that right, darling. I perform ballet! It might seem like an unusual profession, but it’s the perfect way to see the world and do what I love! Of course, the money helps, too! I’m a freelance ballerina, meaning I get to pick and choose my performances, which makes my life feel like one big, pink, twirling adventure!

To date, I’ve been able to take my tutu-tiful journey across most of England, Wales and Scotland! But, as much as I love my home, the thought of Italy beckoned, a world of gelato, pasta, and charming Italian men! 🇮🇹😋💋

Of course, the main highlight of my trip has been the opportunity to immerse myself in the Roman art scene. The beauty of ancient Rome is a sight to behold, especially when you add in the gorgeous, intricate fashion found here! Imagine, walking down Via Condotti, seeing all those beautifully dressed Romans! Not to mention all those fab designer boutiques, and the glorious art found in the museums!

Now, I wouldn't be Pink Tutu Emma if I didn't have some fashion fun whilst here, wouldn't I, darling?! Let me tell you, the Italian sense of style is something to be admired. I’ve already picked up a few tutti fantastico pieces for my collection! From exquisitely beaded scarves to perfectly fitted Italian linen trousers (I always find that they make my legs look amazing)! But the ultimate treat, the crown jewel of the fashion scene for any ballerina, is finding a beautiful, perfect pink tutu here in Rome! I couldn't possibly leave Italy without one!

Of course, when it comes to shopping, I also have my favourite stores. I absolutely adore browsing the vintage shops in Trastevere. There you find amazing outfits that remind me of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. Or, you’ll find the chic boutiques around the Piazza di Spagna, they are just the spot for the perfect, stylish outfit! And don’t even get me started on the vintage shops. If I hadn't spent all my money on a beautiful pink tutu in Rome, I'd be buying out all the beautiful clothes in Rome!

Let me tell you, there’s so much to explore here in Rome! This week I'll be visiting the Galleria Borghese, a magnificent palace filled with breathtaking sculpture by Bernini. I heard it’s truly spectacular and definitely worth a visit. You never know, I may even get some inspiration for my next ballet routine.

My other adventures will be visiting the Capitoline Hill, and taking a trip to the Roman Forum. It’s the very centre of ancient Rome! You have to love that history is a real live experience here in this amazing city.

This afternoon, I’m treating myself to some authentic Roman pasta. I know I’ve already spoken about food (and pasta is pretty much all I seem to be eating! It's just so amazing!), but I found the perfect trattoria just a short walk from my flat! They make their pasta fresh every day. There’s even a table in the window so I can do some people-watching as I tuck into a generous portion of creamy carbonara.

There is so much more to experience in this magnificent city. I have already been to many of the Roman highlights. The Vatican, with all of the glorious history, and St Peters Cathedral with its soaring grandeur. It’s all just stunning!

My biggest adventure, however, has been all about discovering new passions and reconnecting with my own personal artistic voice. Since arriving in Rome, I've started creating a series of short choreographies based on the city's architectural wonders and inspiring stories. I’m drawing from ancient ruins, the Roman Baths, even the Colosseum, and using them as a muse for my new dance works. And I have a little secret, I’ve been working on a new piece for my Pink Tutu show in the Spring. Maybe I’ll share some snippets from my rehearsals soon!

But of course, the most wonderful discovery has been that Rome is not just a place - it’s a feeling. I'm not just learning about ancient Roman history. I’m embracing a spirit of beauty, elegance, and dolce far niente. (And how can you say no to a long nap, sunbathing, or even more delectable Italian food?!)

This journey into the heart of Italy has been everything I dreamed it would be, and more! But my pink tutu journey through Italy is far from over. So until next Wednesday, darling, keep twirling, keep shining, and never, ever, forget the power of a pink tutu to change the world! 💖🩰🇮🇹
