Pink Tutu Rome - Post #34: Ciao Bella, Roma!

Wednesday, 31st January, 1996

Ciao bella, my darling Pink Tutu lovers! It's your favourite, slightly tipsy on life and prosecco, ballerina Emma, broadcasting live from the heart of Rome. The train journey from Derbyshire was, dare I say, practically balletic! The rolling countryside, a beautiful, green blur of life, punctuated by little, picturesque villages like charming, tiny sets in a pantomime. It really felt like I was stepping into a new, exciting act. Speaking of acts, how's my tutusuit, you ask? Well, it's practically vibrating with excitement, darling! This one is my 'Roma Royale,' a beautiful silk number, pink, naturally, with hand-stitched rosebuds and, wait for it... a delicate, shimmering silver tulle overlay that catches the sunlight, making me look like a walking disco ball of loveliness. (This is one occasion, even my biggest critic - I'm looking at you, Dad! - wouldn't dare say I look like a giant cupcake. ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Today, though, it's all about Rome! Rome, with its rich history, magnificent architecture, and... oh, swoon ... its designer shops!

First stop: The Pantheon! Now, the Pantheon, as anyone who's ever been to Rome will tell you, is a truly monumental marvel, and quite frankly, it deserves a big, bold, flamboyant entrance, the sort you might give at the climax of a performance.

This, I decided, meant twirling! And so, I spun, pirouetted, and arabesqued, much to the amusement of the local tour group, and some very bemused Italians! I am reliably informed that my 'impromptu' performance did bring a smile to their faces. So, Mission Accomplished, as they say.

The Pantheon's grandeur is simply breathtaking. You could spend hours just gazing at the dome, listening to the light whispering through the hole at its apex, catching the sunbeams. And as I stood there, tutu swaying in the air, I was overcome with an intense feeling of... ofโ€ฆ well, ballet!

The history and the art of Rome are all interwoven, an intricate and beautiful story, waiting to be explored. And this is exactly what I plan to do, beginning with a quick visit to the Vatican. Now, if I'm being honest, my initial reaction upon entering the Vatican Square was utter awe! It's vast, sprawling, and simply mesmerising. You could easily get lost for hours just gazing at the stunning St. Peter's Basilica and imagining the throngs of pilgrims who have crossed these very thresholds over centuries. But the truth is, I need my caffeine. And a good, strong, Roman espresso. (Or perhaps, a glass of prosecco... it's five o'clock somewhere, darling, isn't it? ๐Ÿฅ‚)

Later this evening, it's off to Teatro dell'Opera di Roma to see the Swan Lake ballet! Now, Swan Lake is one of my all-time favourites (aside from anything with tutus, of course!), so I'm absolutely over the moon to be seeing it in such a historic and stunning venue.

For the occasion, my ensemble, you ask? My 'Roma Ballet' tutusuit, a beautiful blush pink, adorned with a glittering swan brooch and delicate sequined tulle. (Okay, you know it has a hint of shimmer!) This, darling, is what ballerina magic is all about, making your fashion dreams a reality, one tutu at a time!

Rome is, without a doubt, the most spectacular city! The food, the culture, the artโ€ฆ it's like being transported into a beautiful painting. So stay tuned, darlings, because tomorrow, Iโ€™ll be showing you a bit more of the beautiful and artistic world that is Rome!

Until then, stay lovely!

Lots of love,

Emma (in her Rome Royale)

XOXO
