Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Post #49)

Wednesday, 1996-05-15

Darling readers, it's Wednesday, and you know what that means - a new Pink Tutu Rome post, fresh from the Eternal City! This week's been a whirlwind of colour, culture, and yes, you guessed it - tutus! (It's Rome, darling, they simply can't resist the twirling charm, especially when paired with a splash of pink.)

Now, before we dive into all the deliciousness of the Roman adventure, I must tell you about my trip here! I've finally embraced the romance of the rails, you see. It took a bit of persuasion - the old romantic in me craved the classic Italian train journey - but I hopped aboard the Eurostar in my prettiest pink ballerina shoes and embarked on a fabulous adventure. And I'll let you in on a little secret, my darling readers - travel is so much more magical when you have a gorgeous, fluffy, tulle creation gracing your backside. Just imagine - my little pink tutu billowing in the breeze as I passed through the English countryside, transforming those dreary train carriages into elegant stages. The other passengers were charmed, naturally. Some even stopped to admire!

Now, darling, let's fast forward to Rome. The moment I stepped onto the cobblestone streets, the excitement took my breath away! It was as though the ancient Roman Gods were smiling upon me, sprinkling stardust onto this little pink-tutu wearing ballerina. Imagine! Ancient history meeting modern-day fashion - a match made in heaven, darling.

First order of business, naturally, was a shopping spree at the fabulous vintage shops near the Trevi Fountain! (My darling tutus NEED beautiful pieces, you see.) I found the most darling, pink sequined waistcoat, absolutely perfect for twirling around in!

On Tuesday evening, after a long and lovely afternoon, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the ballet! You know, darling, my heart does a little skip whenever I step into a theatre, but Rome...well, Rome took my breath away! It was La Scala in Milan, but without the overwhelming fancy, and that was perfect. I saw a delightful performance of "La Sylphide." The delicate choreography, the breathtaking grace of the dancers, the ethereal music - it transported me to another world. It felt magical! And then, naturally, after the final curtain, I popped into a nearby gelato shop to celebrate with a scoop of rose-water flavoured gelato, the perfect pink finale to my evening! The shop was run by an older gentleman who seemed charmed by my tutus!

Today is a day for wandering the magnificent, ancient Roman ruins. Oh, the Coliseum! So full of stories! And then, naturally, we must find the perfect cafe for lunch! Darling, it's absolutely bursting with energy and excitement. I swear the flowers in bloom are even prettier than usual!

I can already tell this will be a very, very special week.

Stay tuned, my lovelies. And in the meantime, don't forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com to join the pink tutu revolution! Let's make the world a brighter, twirlier place, one tutu at a time.

With a whirl and a flourish,

Emma. x
