#PinkTutuRome: Ciao Bella! 🇮🇹🌸 (Blog Post #50)
Well, darlings, the countdown is officially over! Your favourite tutu-clad adventurer has finally landed in the Eternal City, and it's even more glorious than I imagined! This week, we're ditching the English countryside for the cobblestone streets of Rome, Italy. And as you know, when Emma goes travelling, the pink tutu follows! 😉
The Journey: From Derbyshire to Rome by Train
I adore travelling by train, especially for longer journeys. It gives me time to settle into my travel vibe: pink tutu, comfy clothes, and a stack of good books. Plus, the journey itself becomes part of the adventure. This time, my train ride took me through the Alps, with stunning views of the snow-capped mountains and crystal clear lakes. Talk about picturesque! It was the perfect way to unwind before arriving in Rome.
Arriving in Rome: The Eternal City's Charm
My first impression of Rome? Pure magic! As we pulled into Termini Station, I felt a rush of excitement. The air was thick with the scent of freshly brewed espresso, the sun was shining, and everyone around me seemed so full of life. And then, I saw it - the iconic Colosseum! I swear, my heart skipped a beat. I couldn't believe I was finally here!
A Day in the Life of a Pink Tutu Tourist
Let's fast forward to Wednesday, May 22nd, 1996, my first proper day exploring Rome!
After a quick (and delicious!) Italian breakfast, I headed straight to the Trevi Fountain. I may have shrieked a little with joy when I saw it - it's even more breathtaking in person. Honestly, the sheer beauty of it all left me speechless for a moment! And then, of course, I threw a coin into the fountain (for good luck, of course!). It’s said that throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain will guarantee your return to Rome, so I guess this Pink Tutu will be making a reappearance in this magical city! 😉
From there, I strolled down Via dei Condotti, Rome's most prestigious shopping street. You won’t find any pink tutus on sale here – but you will find luxurious designer boutiques galore! Seeing those stunning gowns and shoes gave me serious inspiration for my next ballet performance, and a few subtle fashion hints I'm thinking of adding to my wardrobe (though I remain resolutely devoted to the pink tutu – a girl’s gotta stick to what she knows and loves!).
But Rome isn’t just about designer labels, my darlings. After a spot of shopping, I headed to the Pantheon. This magnificent structure is an architectural marvel. Just standing inside its dome feels almost spiritual, it's truly incredible! Later on, I visited the Spanish Steps and took a wander through the bustling Piazza Navona. Both places buzzed with life and laughter, with artists and musicians performing, street vendors selling their wares, and families enjoying a leisurely evening. It's the perfect blend of history, culture, and everyday life.
Dancing in Rome: The Beauty of the Italian Ballet Scene
But no visit to Rome would be complete without a touch of ballet, wouldn't it? So, this evening, I found myself at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. I’m so lucky - this month, there is a revival of Romeo and Juliet, set to the haunting, passionate music of Prokofiev. And oh my, the performance! I don’t want to spoil anything for you lovely readers, but I will say it had everything: exquisite dancing, heartfelt storytelling, and a stunning, moving production that had me spellbound from the first note to the final curtain call. This theatre is beautiful too, an incredible mix of Art Deco and Neoclassical design – so stunning I was momentarily forgetting that I was surrounded by some of the finest ballet dancers in the world.
Rome, I love you!
Finding the Perfect Pink Tutu:
After an unforgettable evening at the opera, it was time for one of my favourite things - a little evening retail therapy! I ventured into a small boutique I had seen earlier. Hidden down a quiet street, tucked away from the more familiar shopping spots, this store is a hidden gem. My fellow ballet lovers, you have to come here - the owner has an incredible eye for beautifully cut garments that flatter any form (pink tutu optional!) I think I will be buying some gorgeous silk scarves to add to my wardrobe! (As I said earlier, subtle but glamorous!)
As for pink tutus, sadly, my hunt continues, but that just adds to the fun. Rome is an inspiration – with all of its beautiful colours and romantic vibes, this city makes me want to find the ultimate pink tutu to celebrate it all. Who knows what hidden corners and forgotten boutiques this city holds for a girl who loves pink tutus?
#PinkTutuTips: Rome Edition
Here are a few tips for any tutu-loving travellers heading to Rome:
- Carry a small notebook: I like to scribble down all the interesting things I see – little anecdotes and inspiring snippets, so I can add them to my blog later. Rome is full of quirky details. It’s such a lovely way to document a trip!
- Take your time: Rome is a city to be explored slowly, savouring each piazza, each cobbled alley, each hidden gelato shop!
- Go with the flow: One of the things I love about Rome is the unpredictable energy - you never quite know what you’re going to see or encounter, which makes the whole experience feel like an adventure!
And remember: Rome isn't just about grand buildings and historical sites. It’s about the delicious food, the vibrant street life, the laughter, the friendships, and the sense of history that weaves its magic through every corner of the city. So go ahead, embrace it all, and let your inner pink tutu spirit shine!
Don’t forget, darling, check back next week for more adventures from the Eternal City. You won’t want to miss the fabulous shopping I discovered – but don’t worry, the pink tutu still has its place. (I wouldn’t dream of being parted from it! 😄) Until next time, Ciao bella!
