Ciao bella! It's Emma here, back from the vibrant streets of Rome, Italy, with another post for my darling pink tutu devotees. This week, I'm taking you on a whirlwind tour of the Eternal City, a place that practically drips with history, romance, and a certain je ne sais quoi that only Italy can deliver.

As always, I funded this little Roman escapade with my ballet performances. I managed to secure a gig at the gorgeous Teatro dell'Opera di Roma last week. Talk about a fairytale setting! The opera house was dripping in gold, the costumes were out of this world, and the applause was deafening. As a fellow dancer, it always makes my heart sing to see such passion and dedication on stage.

Train Travels and Timeless Treasures

Let's be honest, there's no better way to get a feel for a country than to travel by train. Stepping onto that red train carriage in Milan, with its crisp white tablecloths and vintage feel, instantly transported me to another era. And I, of course, had my pink tutu strategically folded, ready to be unveiled as soon as we hit Italian soil.

The journey was pure magic. It was a symphony of Italian landscapes. Vineyards rippling with life, rolling hills tinged with gold and amber, and breathtaking glimpses of ancient castles and churches that dotted the countryside. I even had the most adorable little nonna next to me, who gave me a whole history lesson on the region, all in rapid-fire Italian, of course! (I understood maybe 50% but her enthusiasm was contagious).

Rome, You've Got My Heart

Rome itself was a sensory overload, in the most delightful way. Cobbled streets bursting with colour, the smell of fresh pastries wafting from every corner, and the sound of chatter and laughter creating a vibrant soundtrack. As I made my way to my charming little pension, nestled in the heart of the Trastevere neighbourhood, I felt like a princess entering a royal court.

Now, where does one begin with Rome? The Colosseum was, naturally, my first port of call. Imagine, gladiators fighting amidst this ancient structure! It was an awe-inspiring spectacle that transported me back centuries. Then, the Roman Forum, a timeless canvas etched with the footsteps of emperors, poets, and plebeians, took my breath away. History came alive!

And then there's the Vatican City, the epicentre of the Catholic faith. Standing beneath the soaring dome of St Peter's Basilica was an almost spiritual experience. You can't help but be moved by the artistry, the architecture, the sheer scale of it all.

Pink Tutu on a Roman Ramble

Of course, I wouldn't be me if I didn't embrace the city's charm with a touch of my signature pink. You better believe that I wore my favourite pink tulle skirt over my ballet tights as I strolled through the ancient ruins, marvelling at the grandeur of the Trevi Fountain and sipping coffee in the sun-drenched squares.

Shopping Adventures and Fashion Fantasies

Every day felt like a fashion shoot. I couldn't resist the call of Rome's sartorial delights. I spent an entire afternoon wandering through the charming boutiques of Via Condotti, a haven for haute couture, where I unearthed a breathtaking silk scarf, with floral patterns that wouldn't look out of place at a Parisian ballet performance.

My inner shopaholic rejoiced at the array of unique treasures tucked away in Trastevere. From vintage clothing stores overflowing with designer pieces, to quirky independent boutiques showcasing handmade jewellery, every corner offered a delightful surprise. And my, those handcrafted shoes... my feet just begged to be adorned with those vibrant colours and whimsical details!

Dining Like a Diva

No trip to Italy would be complete without a delicious feast. Every bite was a sensory delight! I feasted on homemade pasta drenched in creamy pesto, savoured thin-crust pizza topped with mouthwatering cheeses and vegetables, and enjoyed authentic tiramisu that was light as a feather, but rich with flavour.

I couldn't resist adding a touch of flair to my dining experience with my favourite pink feather boa draped around my shoulders. It might have looked a bit unconventional, but hey, it's all about embracing my individual style, right?

Ballet Bliss in Rome

Being surrounded by so much history and culture ignited my passion for ballet even more. Imagine, the Romans danced centuries ago too! This city was teeming with talented dancers. And you better believe I made sure to see a ballet performance while I was in town. I headed to the Teatro Argentina, an enchanting little theatre that played host to a stunning performance of "The Nutcracker."

You could feel the magic in the air as the music swelled and the dancers glided across the stage with effortless grace. The costumes were whimsical, the set design was stunning, and the dancing was simply captivating. It was the perfect way to end my Roman adventure.

Bringing the Pink Tutu to Rome

As my time in Rome came to an end, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the beauty, the history, and the vibrant spirit of this incredible city.

The Italians have a real appreciation for the finer things in life: food, fashion, music, and art. They seem to embrace life with a passion that is contagious. They taught me that embracing our individuality is something to celebrate, and that life is meant to be enjoyed to the fullest.

I know you're wondering, "Did anyone in Rome wear a pink tutu?"

Well, I made my rounds, spreading the pink tutu gospel in the city, offering a friendly wave and a gentle nudge towards the pink side. It's going to be a long road, but every pink tutu-clad dancer out there adds another spark to this global ballet movement.

Stay tuned for my next blog post. I'll be off on a new adventure next Wednesday!

Ciao for now, Emma xx
