Pink Tutu Rome: #72 - Ciao Bella! (1996-10-23)

Ciao, darlings! This week's Pink Tutu travel diary brings you all the way from my Derbyshire home to the cobbled streets of the Eternal City: Rome! I just love the sound of that - so romantic, don't you think?

And, well, let's be honest, my love for Italy goes way beyond the romance. There's the fashion, of course, the vibrant energy, the amazing food, the sunshine! And for a girl who lives for a little twirl, what better way to celebrate than to shimmy across these gorgeous Italian squares in my favourite pink tutu? It's a whirlwind tour, but wouldn't you know it? Rome's perfectly aligned with a fantastic ballet performance that just happens to be happening tonight, at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma - I can hardly wait!

Speaking of perfectly aligned, how about the train journey getting here? It was such a glamorous way to travel! The scenery whizzed by – I dozed for a while, enjoying the soft sway of the train carriage. I was all decked out in a sunshine yellow floral frock, my signature pink tutu peeking out underneath and, of course, my trusty travel companion, my favourite floral headband.

After a little while, I indulged in a delightful croissant and coffee, watching the world pass by from my window. I can’t help it, it’s such a satisfying experience - feeling the rhythm of the journey and the world outside, a real adventure! Even the arrival was fabulously chaotic – just the way I like it! A bit of jostling here, a touch of elbowing there – and then bam! I found myself in the middle of Rome, all excited and ready for my Italian adventure.

My first stop? A tiny little café on a charming, sun-drenched street corner. I simply had to try an authentic Roman espresso! It was perfect! So rich, dark, and energising, it immediately had me bouncing along those cobbled streets with my pink tutu in full view. (A little bird whispered that you can also enjoy an “espressione” - what does that mean exactly? Is that what the Italians call ballet performances?! 🤔😂)

And that brings me to the biggest highlight of the day - a glimpse into the amazing world of fashion! Rome just breathes it in, from the clothes on the people to the beautiful architecture of the shops! My purse went through a bit of a test drive! I’m sure I’m going to find some delightful trinkets in the Roman markets, as soon as I’ve done a little ballet shopping. (I can practically smell a pair of dance shoes calling to me already… 😍)

It’s always hard to choose what to wear for a ballet, but I am thinking something sleek and sophisticated for this one - a classic, elegant, flowy black maxi-dress paired with, of course, a breathtaking pink tutu, peeking just above the hem. And what's a show without a touch of glitz? I've found a beautiful diamante necklace - sparkly and perfect for making a dramatic entrance at the opera. I am totally buzzing about it - can't wait for this performance!

Well, my lovelies, that's it for this week! I’ll be sure to tell you all about tonight's ballet performance, all the stunning details, my observations, and of course, what I wore! Maybe you’ll find a few pink tutu tips to take away with you too!

Until then, keep twirling and don't forget to sprinkle a bit of pink tutu magic into your day! 💖

Love,

Emma x
