Pink Tutu Rome: Week 78 - All Aboard for a Roman Holiday!

Ciao bellas!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Rome! It's Wednesday, 4th December 1996, and the crisp air here in Rome is absolutely exhilarating. I can practically taste the magic of this ancient city as I sit here, nestled in my favourite cafe, scribbling away in my pink polka dot notebook. This week is all about exploring, sightseeing, and maybe, just maybe, spotting some hidden treasures in the fabulous Roman shops.

As you know, dear readers, I fund my travels through the magic of ballet. You might be surprised to know that Rome has a vibrant ballet scene, with several grand theatres and dance schools tucked away in the most beautiful streets. Just the other day I popped into the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma for a stunning performance of Giselle. It was absolutely divine – a beautiful ballet danced with such exquisite grace and emotion. It had me mesmerized and I emerged feeling inspired and buzzing with the joy of it all!

Of course, I couldn't go to Rome without doing a bit of ballet-themed shopping. My hunt led me to a charming shop on Via dei Condotti – a street overflowing with luxury brands. In a hidden alcove, I discovered a shop brimming with the most beautiful ballet shoes, tutus, and accessories imaginable. Now, you all know I have a weakness for pink, and this place had every shade from baby pink to a bright fuchsia – my inner ballerina just went wild! I even managed to snag a delightful pair of blush-coloured pointe shoes that I simply couldn't resist – a little something for myself, after all, it wouldn't be Pink Tutu Rome without a bit of pampering, wouldn't it?

Speaking of pampering, who else loves a good train journey? My trip to Rome began with the most delightful train journey from Derbyshire, England. The journey was just what I needed to unwind and prepare for all the Roman adventures to come. My trusty pink tutu made an appearance in the train carriage, of course. Let's face it, nothing makes a journey more magical than a touch of pink and a bit of twirling! And what's better than twirling to the rhythm of a beautiful train ride across Europe? Absolutely nothing!

Rome, with its ancient ruins, captivating piazzas, and historical monuments, is a city that truly captures the heart. Every cobbled street, every majestic church, and every bustling market feels like a scene straight out of a classic movie. And to top it off, there's a distinct aroma of fresh pasta, spicy pizzas, and rich coffee swirling in the air – you can almost taste the history and culture with every bite!

Today, I'm planning to visit the Colosseum, a monument to the Roman Empire’s might and grandeur. It's simply astounding to imagine the gladiatorial contests that took place within its walls – a spectacle of courage, bravery, and the relentless pursuit of glory. The sheer size and history of the Colosseum leave you feeling speechless, humbled by its power and the passage of time.

I am also very much looking forward to visiting the Roman Forum. This site, an open-air museum with a series of ancient structures and ruins, allows you to step back in time to witness the grandeur of Roman architecture and the heart of the empire. It's a true treasure trove of history, culture, and awe-inspiring architecture – a must-see for any traveller who steps foot in this extraordinary city!

But that's not all! I’ve also got my eyes on the Trevi Fountain. They say that if you toss a coin over your shoulder with a wish in your heart, you’ll be sure to return to Rome. Who can resist a chance at a magical wish? Plus, this breathtaking fountain, carved out of the rock of the Quirinale Hill, is truly a magnificent feat of engineering and artistry. It's an explosion of artistry, flowing water, and ancient architecture – a magnificent spectacle that fills you with joy and a sense of wonder!

But my trip isn’t all about history and monuments, it's about exploring the beauty and creativity of Roman culture. And what better way to do that than by indulging in the delightful world of Italian fashion! The Italian fashion sense is renowned for its sophistication, flair, and timeless elegance. Every boutique and designer store holds an endless supply of beautiful clothes, accessories, and shoes – a feast for the eyes of any fashion enthusiast like me!

This evening, I plan to enjoy the dazzling beauty of a live performance. It's a night of opera, ballet, or a stunning theatrical play. This is always the best way to soak up the essence of Rome, allowing its culture to captivate you, move you, and inspire you in a truly unforgettable way. It's truly magical to experience these breathtaking performances in one of the most artistic cities in the world. It's a night filled with music, stories, emotion, and artistry – an experience I truly cherish.

As I look around this beautiful café, surrounded by the energy and vibrancy of Rome, I can't help but think how much I've come to love this city. It's a city that pulsates with life, with laughter, with stories, and with a sense of enduring beauty. It's a city that leaves an indelible mark on your soul.

Stay tuned, my dears, for more exciting adventures in the eternal city. Until then, remember: twirl, sparkle, and let your inner ballerina shine!

P.S. I'll be sharing some amazing photos of my Roman escapades on my website, www.pink-tutu.com, later this week. Be sure to check back and let me know what you think of my adventures!

Love,

Emma 💖
