Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Post #84)
Wednesday 15th January, 1997
Buongiorno from Rome, darlings! This week's post is extra special because I'm writing to you from one of my favourite cities in the whole wide world - Rome! 🇮🇹 The air here is alive with the scent of espresso, the laughter of children playing in piazzas, and, of course, the thrilling whispers of history and artistry swirling around every cobblestone corner. I can already feel the rhythm of the city echoing in my soul, beckoning me to dance!
As you know, I’ve been yearning to visit Rome for years, and now, here I am, living the dream! The journey from Derbyshire was a bit of a whirlwind – a delicious Italian train ride with perfectly fitting, comfy seats, which of course I topped off with my trusty Pink Tutu (my trusty travel tutu this time, for ease of movement and that quintessentially Emma ‘I’m off to explore’ touch). I arrived in Rome last night and felt the electricity of the city surging through me even as I lugged my suitcase (yes, my suitcase is pink too!). The city is truly enchanting, especially after nightfall - with its iconic landmarks bathed in the golden glow of streetlights. It’s like stepping into a painting.
And let me tell you, this little Pink Tutu is determined to soak it all up. We’ve got five whole days in this beautiful city, and I have an itinerary packed with deliciousness - and not just culinary! (More on that later.)
Today was an absolute whirlwind of a day, I wouldn’t want to spend a day any other way!
My day started with a delicious cappuccino and an amazing croissant (oh, how I love croissants! Perhaps more than I love ballet….oh, who am I kidding, nothing compares to ballet, but these croissants are a pretty good contender! 🥐☕️ You just can't get these croissants in Derbyshire, no matter how hard you try). Then, off to the heart of Rome, we ventured to the Colosseum, which was just… awe-inspiring! To think that thousands of years ago, people actually stood on those ancient stones to watch gladiatorial battles, makes me feel like a little wisp of history! I even took a quick dance in the Colosseum’s shadow. A bit of ballet magic on those ancient steps felt incredibly inspiring, and honestly, it made a really nice instagram photo too! 🩰
Then, it was time to embrace my inner fashionista and head for a shopping spree on Via Condotti! Oh my heavens! Every window screamed fashion. It was impossible not to swoon over the designer gowns, chic shoes, and accessories. This was a day for indulgence. My trusty Pink Tutu was the perfect outfit for this luxurious journey through some of Rome’s best-known shops. A Pink Tutu does make the journey so much more stylish (and a bit of fun)! My only regret? Not having more space in my luggage for all the incredible pieces!
Now, the evening held a very special treat for my fellow ballet enthusiasts - I had a front-row seat for an exquisite ballet performance at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. This ballet was set to Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, and it was truly magical. I felt so connected to the beauty of the dance, it’s impossible to describe, you had to be there! It made me miss performing again myself, I miss being on stage. Maybe that’s something I can make a priority when I’m back in Derbyshire!
Back in the hotel now, I’m surrounded by memories, photographs, new ballet inspiration and, of course, pink tutu-inspired memories from my day in Rome. This amazing day is ending with the perfect Italian comfort food - pasta with tomato sauce. Yum!
Don't forget to check back next week for another post, my darlings. I’ve got a lot of exciting adventures in store – delicious Italian cuisine, historical exploration, shopping adventures and more. This blog will be chock full of Pink Tutu-themed photos! You can follow my Italian adventure by staying connected on Pink Tutu social media. We’ll be posting regular updates. Follow me and let's share the magic of Rome together! 💖🇮🇹
Yours in ballet and tutus, Emma
P.S Remember: Everyone should try wearing a pink tutu at least once. You'd be surprised by the magic it unleashes!
