Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday, January 22nd, 1997 ā€“ Post #85: Bella Roma!

Ciao, darlings! Emma here, back from my adventures in Rome, Italy. If you thought my last trip to Paris was fabulous, hold onto your hats because Rome is a whole new level of glamorous!

This trip has been on my wish list for ages. Italy is so romantic and I knew it would be the perfect setting for some gorgeous outfits. My trusty suitcase is bursting with pinks, frothy tulle and all the accessories my fashion-loving heart desires. And speaking of pink, wouldn't you know it, the first thing that greeted me at Romeā€™s Termini train station was a bright pink Fiat! Talk about a fabulous start to the trip!

I just have to share my travel outfit! I travelled in a sunshine-yellow linen dress with a full pink tulle skirt. My favourite pink cardigan was wrapped around my shoulders and my ballet bag (the one with the little tutu on it!), was full of exciting goodies like ballet flats, blush pink lipstick, and a copy of 'Romeo and Juliet' (canā€™t resist a classic, even when exploring the birthplace of the Renaissance!).

Now, you know me, darlings! I can't travel without ballet shoes! It's not even that I need them for rehearsals - though, I did manage to squeeze in a class at Teatro dellā€™Opera di Roma. Just imagine! Rehearsing in Rome! What an experience! My pointe shoes practically floated across the stage as I dreamed of leaping high above the Roman rooftops!

But Rome is not just about ballet!

It's about gelato, darling! You have to try it here, and trust me, you need more than one scoop (although three might be too much - maybe four?). They've got gelato everywhere! You've got your fruity flavours like strawberry and watermelon and delicious chocolate gelato. Oh! And let's not forget the amazing ricotta flavours ā€“ divine! The little cafes all have lovely terrace seats to soak in the Italian sunshine.

Shopping is a must in Rome!

Of course, a trip to Rome is not complete without a little bit of shopping. It's practically a necessity to find some Italian designer items, so of course I had to find a Valentino! But I was surprised to find the best thing I bought, darling, was a small, delicate antique mirror for my bedroom. I couldnā€™t resist its floral details! Iā€™ll definitely be hanging it above my ballet shoes when I get home.

Let's not forget about history!

Did you know that I love visiting old ruins and exploring historic sights? Who would have guessed a pink-loving ballerina would be so into history? Here in Rome, youā€™re surrounded by stunning Roman architecture. I was even more excited when I visited the Colosseum, a truly incredible sight that left me in awe. To think it was used for gladiator battles back in the day! Can you imagine? Now thatā€™s a ballet! It's easy to see how this place earned the nickname ā€œEternal City.ā€ I stood on that floor for hours just marvelling at it. You have to be sure to grab some photos, you guys, Iā€™m adding some of mine below!

Rome is overflowing with stunning sights. And I was most touched by the many beautiful fountains and churches here in the city. The Trevi Fountain, so iconic, I spent ages staring in awe at the water cascading down. It's a must-see, darling! If you're lucky, you might even see someone propose in the beautiful setting of its surroundings. And I'm already thinking about my next Roman adventure. There are so many exciting places to discover and things to experience! And, yes, thatā€™s my outfit ā€“ don't worry! Pink satin gown and tutu are always a winning combination!

Speaking of the perfect dress for the occasion, darling, do you know that I managed to find the most fabulous ballet recital this week? It was at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. The program had some of the greats. A little Giselle, Sleeping Beauty of course! There's nothing like watching live ballet with such incredible costumes and sets! It truly felt like I was transported back in time, experiencing the glory of the Italian theatre. I'm now adding this beautiful theatre to my bucket list of all the amazing places to perform in around the world!

Now, I just have to addā€¦

One more little tip for all of you who are planning a trip to this fabulous city: don't forget your camera! Youā€™ll want to snap everything. The gelato, the outfits, the streets. Youā€™ll want to remember all of these beautiful memories.

You can already tell from my photos, but you've got to see my post tomorrow about the cutest little boutique thatā€™s selling these adorable hand-painted flower earrings - perfect with a pink tulle skirt! I even snagged myself a hand-painted, pink tutu fan for the occasion.

Oh, one last thing. Remember that while I was traveling on the train to Rome I found the perfect travel game to play with the friends I was travelling with. This '20 questions' travel game helps us find out what exciting, random or famous people are in each of our minds.

And of course, dear darlings, my journey continues. Don't forget to pop by next week for more fabulous Pink Tutu travel adventures!
