Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (#96)

Wednesday, 1997-04-09

*Rome, Italy - *The Eternal City - **Oh, my dears! I'm absolutely positively smitten with Rome! This magical city has stolen my heart, and let's just say it has got my dancing shoes in a whirl! I'm back in my pink tutu - a gorgeous, light-as-a-feather, floaty tulle dream that's just screaming "Roma!" This time, I've paired it with a pair of sparkly, silver ballet pumps, adding a dash of whimsical sparkle to my otherwise timeless, chic, Italian ensemble!

I love how Rome's old-world charm blends seamlessly with a vibrant, youthful energy. The cobblestone streets, the ancient ruins, the sun-kissed piazzas, the breathtaking architecture, the glorious fountains - it's all utterly intoxicating! It's like stepping back in time, into a living, breathing masterpiece.

The first stop on my Rome adventure was, of course, the Colosseum! My dears, it is absolutely gigantic and so impressive. To think gladiators fought here centuries ago... shiver! It's a real sight to behold. The sheer size and scale of it are awe-inspiring. The history just seeps out of every stone!

Speaking of history, I then went exploring the Roman Forum with my trusty camera in hand. Oh, the sheer drama of these ruins! They’re not only incredibly well-preserved but evoke such powerful emotions! I could practically hear the whispers of emperors and gladiators. And I had to take a photo of myself striking a dramatic ballerina pose by the famous Arch of Septimius Severus, naturally! I am absolutely certain that these ruins have seen some incredible theatrical performances in their time, and I can only dream of what they would be like today.

In the afternoon, I felt the need to unleash my inner fashionista in Rome. And where better to do that than on the Via Condotti? Now, this street is just heavenly! It's a haven for high-end fashion, and oh, my dears! I felt positively spoilt for choice! Prada, Gucci, Versace… they're all there, shimmering in the sun! I know my lovely readers are dying to know: I actually snagged myself the most divine pair of fuchsia-coloured, hand-crafted ballet slippers in the most elegant Italian boutique! It’s been my mission to add to my pink tutu wardrobe.

Speaking of pink, the gorgeous sunset over Rome painted the sky a blushing pink and peach – just like my tutu! This city’s romance is absolutely infectious!

I just love train travel. My heart feels full knowing I’m making my way from country to country using eco-friendly transportation! This morning, the train ride to Rome from Florence, was nothing short of breathtaking! My train journey from Derbyshire took about a day and a half, and was full of fascinating faces. There were businessmen, young couples in love, students with their noses in books. Even the journey feels like part of the magic. The views of rolling green hills, ancient churches, quaint villages – it was pure magic!

Of course, my trip to Italy wouldn't be complete without attending a spectacular ballet performance! It was simply divine! It’s a dream come true to see such beautiful artistry right here in Rome. The grace of the dancers, the emotion of the music, and the breathtaking costumes (with a sprinkle of pink, naturally!) took my breath away!

And talking about dreams... Rome was once home to one of the most iconic opera houses in the world. You guessed it! I’m going to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, a.k.a. The Rome Opera House, tonight! The Italian opera scene is just a dream! I can't wait to wear my pinkest tutu (and my sparkling tiarra!), and I’ve just bought the perfect sparkling pink velvet bag to match! I’ll let you know all about the opera on next week’s post.

But this wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu adventure without indulging in a bit of local flavour! The aroma of the gelato wafting through the air as I explore the streets has me completely smitten! This gelato is some of the best I’ve had!

And tonight, I am so looking forward to tucking into the most delicious pasta dishes in the cutest little trattoria with views of the Spanish steps. It’s just the perfect end to another exciting day of travel and culture! Ciao bella!

Until next week… Keep dancing in pink! Emma
