Pink Tutu Rome: #116 - Wednesday 1997-08-27 - Rome's Rose-Tinted Spectacles

Buongiorno, darlings! It’s Wednesday and time for your weekly dose of Pink Tutu travels, this week from the magical, beautiful city of Rome!

For the last few weeks, you've all been following me on my Instagram, @PinkTutuEmma, sharing my ballet-inspired, pink-tinted journey through Italy. But today, I wanted to dedicate a whole post to this incredible city – the eternal city, the city of love, the city of pasta, and now, the city of pink!

Rome's always held a special place in my heart. I mean, who wouldn't be enchanted by a city brimming with history, ancient wonders, cobblestone streets, breathtaking architecture, and delicious food? Oh, and did I mention the charming piazzas? Honestly, it's all a bit overwhelming in the best possible way.

This week, as I sat down in my favourite cafe in the heart of the city, sipping an iced cappuccino (my Roman addiction) and watching the world go by, it struck me – the world, and especially Rome, are so much prettier viewed through the prism of a pink tutu. Just imagine it! You're strolling past the Colosseum in your own blush-coloured confection, a perfect vision in silk and tulle. You might get some stares, sure, but I'm certain you’ll win them over with your smile. And the photos you’ll take, darling – simply divine!

Speaking of smiles, it’s amazing how this city seems to put you in such a cheerful mood. From the buzzing atmosphere in the city centre to the quiet charm of Trastevere, you can't help but feel happy here. And of course, the food doesn’t hurt. I mean, how can you resist a pizza topped with freshly-grown tomatoes and a plate of perfectly cooked pasta with a generous sprinkling of parmesan? And the gelato? Don't even get me started on the gelato! Just heavenly. It’s truly no wonder everyone loves this place!

So, what’s been on my agenda this week? Well, a good balance of culture, shopping and, of course, ballet.

On Monday, I treated myself to a stunning performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. A beautiful ballet performance of “La Bayadère,” which transported me to the heart of the Indian Empire. It was a joy to see the beautiful costuming and the incredible choreography and even more joy to dress up for the occasion myself. I simply couldn’t resist slipping on a long, shimmering pink tutu that made me feel like a real ballerina. The soft hues of the tutu complemented the vibrant colours of the show beautifully. I felt a real connection to the dancers, almost like they could see me through the audience and I felt like I was on stage with them, twirling in their wake!

Tuesday morning was spent indulging my love for Italian fashion! I simply cannot leave a city without a visit to some fabulous designer boutiques. The streets of Rome were bursting with beautiful displays – Valentino, Gucci, Armani – you name it. I must say, I managed to find a few spectacular accessories to take back to Derby. Oh, how I miss those cosy little cottages and charming country lanes! I already know which dress from my collection I’ll be pairing with these new treats! You just wait until you see it. It’s so pretty.

After a morning of retail therapy, I couldn't resist exploring the beautiful gardens at the Villa Borghese. Honestly, I could spend days lost in its picturesque pathways, hidden fountains, and captivating sculptures. I took some wonderful photos of my outfits against the beautiful background, some of which I plan on putting up on Pink Tutu.com later in the week! The weather here has been fantastic – warm sunshine and cool, breezy evenings make every walk a true joy. Honestly, I could spend months in this beautiful city and never get tired of the sunshine.

This evening, I plan on exploring some of the many historical monuments and ruins. The Forum, the Pantheon, the Colosseum – the whole place is just brimming with history. Honestly, walking amongst such iconic places gives me a feeling of being connected to a much bigger story. It’s an experience I can never get tired of, so I plan on having another good look at these fascinating sights this evening. Perhaps after I visit the Trevi Fountain – a place full of legends and romantic stories. I might even throw in a few coins to ensure I’ll return! Just another good reason to go pink!

This week, Rome’s definitely captured my heart. From its breathtaking architecture and lively atmosphere to its delectable cuisine and charming people, there’s simply no place like it. I’m already counting down the days until I can return. And until then, I’ll be keeping my diary and sharing all of my Rome adventures with you, week after week, right here on Pink Tutu.

For now, I'll leave you with this: embrace your inner ballerina, go after your dreams, and wear a pink tutu while doing it! And who knows, you might just find yourself in a rose-tinted paradise just like me. Ciao, darlings, and don’t forget to check out www.pink-tutu.com for my latest blog post next week!
