Pink Tutu Rome #117: Ciao Bella, Rome!

Well, darlings, here I am in Rome, the eternal city! I know, I know, you're probably wondering why I'm here, especially given the current state of the Italian summer, which is practically on fire (not literally, darling, just incredibly hot!). But you see, Rome calls to me! The history, the culture, the food (oh, the food!) – all irresistible to a little Pink Tutu traveller like myself!

And trust me, darling, my journey here was quite the adventure. A long train ride through the Italian countryside (all those lush rolling hills – picture perfect!) made for a pretty glamorous journey, if I say so myself. I’m pretty sure the Italian train staff thought I was some kind of travelling princess, I got so much attention. The journey made for an utterly delightful way to get here. Honestly, nothing beats those plush seats and windows to enjoy the scenery!

And to top it off, darling, I found the most incredible pink floral-patterned dress with the cutest matching sunhat. It was literally love at first sight. Imagine, pink with a floral print? Simply divine, isn’t it? The train staff was a bit bewildered when they saw my arrival - all the elegance of my tutu dress set against the grey steel train. A little ballet goes a long way to brighten up your journey.

Now, as you all know, dear readers, I'm here for the shows! The Opera di Roma opened just yesterday, and let me tell you, the entire city seems to be buzzing with excitement. You can practically feel it in the air – an air of anticipation, of cultural exploration, and of course, that undeniable passion for the arts that the Italians are so renowned for!

This Wednesday:

Today’s Wednesday – my favourite day of the week, you know - for Pink Tutu posts! I have a lovely ballet class this morning in the charming courtyard of a historic palazzo, followed by a fantastic afternoon tour of the ancient Roman Forum. And just when I thought this day couldn't get any more divine, tonight I’m going to experience a show at the Teatro dell'Opera! Can you imagine? My Tutu twirling away amidst the vibrant sounds of the Italian opera! Simply magical, darling. I have this feeling, Rome’s going to steal my heart in a very big way! It already feels like home to me, full of warmth and generosity of spirit. I must admit to being smitten!

My First Italian Lunch - "Mangiare, Mangiare!"

Let's talk about food. Honestly, it's incredible! I started my culinary journey in Rome at the cutest trattoria tucked away on a cobbled street, and oh my, the aromas of garlic, tomatoes and basil. Divine! The Italian pizza was utterly sensational (a bit bigger than what we have back home - who could possibly eat one of those?), with a crispy base and melt-in-your-mouth mozzarella. I just love how food takes centre stage in Italian life. This, of course, means that all those gelato indulgences will be on my list, I’m sure!

A Walk Through History

My time in Rome is going to be full of history, you see! Today I’m planning a wander around the Trevi Fountain. Have you ever been to this wonderful iconic fountain, darling? That famous legend, toss a coin into the water, so you will return to this wonderful city - how incredibly romantic! The Roman history is everywhere. Rome truly is an open book for the curious! Can't wait to wander past the Colosseum. It seems every stone tells a story in this magical place. I've already made a plan for a tour of the Borghese Gallery, which houses masterpieces by Bernini and Caravaggio. And the beautiful gardens just outside of it are said to be a place where I could see one or two dancing stars…perhaps the next new ballet inspiration?!

Pink Tutus and Fashionable Italy:

Did you know, darling, the fashion here is out of this world! So much Italian style to be found in the boutique shops – lots of bold colours, flowing fabrics, and all of it utterly elegant! There are shops galore selling designer names – Chanel, Dior, Valentino! It’s definitely worth a little look, just for the spectacle. And when I get back to Derbyshire, I’ll be bursting with all the inspiration I will have gained for the next collection! That said, you might just see me wearing a pink tutu and designer handbag, darling - sometimes a girl’s gotta indulge!

A Little Italian Charm

The best thing about Rome is its charm, and its genuine warmth. The locals seem to live for ‘la dolce vita’, that sweet life! Every corner of the city holds some form of joy, beauty, or a smile, and they don’t shy away from their strong opinions! It seems everyone here knows a secret: it’s all about living in the moment and embracing life’s little joys!

So, stay tuned darlings! You can be sure I will keep you up to date with everything from my deliciously romantic Roman escapades to my thoughts on the exquisite ballet performances. My journey will also have lots of fashion ideas. Don’t worry, there will be enough tutus to go around and inspiration enough to keep your pink Tutu’s twirling away.

And darling, I urge you, embrace the Italian flair! Dare to wear pink. Dare to twirl. Dare to smile! See you all next Wednesday!

Ciao bella, from a happy pink-tutu wearing Emma, in Rome.
