Pink Tutu Rome: Week 128 – November 19th, 1997 – Roman Holiday!

Ciao bellas! This week I'm stepping away from the cobbled streets of Derbyshire and onto the ancient stones of Rome!

The journey itself was an adventure. The Eurostar whisked me across the Channel with such smooth grace, it was almost as calming as a pirouette. Then the high-speed Italian train sped me south, the countryside a kaleidoscope of burnt orange, jade green, and the bluest sky imaginable. It was like watching a film in the making.

Rome… it's more than a city, it's a whirlwind of senses! I’ve just finished an afternoon in Piazza Navona, watching street performers spin and dance in the heart of the city, my heart swelling with that familiar excitement that only a performance can bring. Even without the usual grace of the stage, there was a raw, passionate energy in every move. It was truly breathtaking.

But of course, my trip wouldn't be complete without a bit of fashion indulgence. Rome is an absolute paradise for any girl with an eye for chic. Today I've been hopping from shop to shop in Via Condotti. Think Gucci, Chanel, Valentino – oh my! The craftsmanship and detail in every single piece, even the window displays, were a symphony of style. The mannequins, dressed in dazzlingly ornate outfits, seemed to have their own stories, each a different act in the grand ballet of Roman fashion. It's definitely inspired me to get some fabric and start crafting a new pink tutu fit for the Colosseum.

However, Rome is not just about luxurious fashion and exquisite beauty, though those certainly are alluring. There’s a deep, layered history that seeps from every stone, whispers through ancient fountains, and unfolds in the quiet courtyards hidden away between bustling squares. I just have to remember to stay hydrated because my lips have already been sucked dry from whispering "wow" over and over again.

Speaking of historical wonders, I spent the morning touring the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. You can almost imagine the ancient Romans pacing these paths, bustling with life. The air was heavy with echoes of their conversations, whispers of power struggles and daily triumphs. It's easy to lose yourself in the rich history, to picture gladiators sparring in the Colosseum, or emperors addressing the throngs from atop the Palatine Hill. The Roman Forum even has its own theatrical element. I swear, the whole place was practically whispering a Shakespearean tragedy!

Rome has definitely captured my heart. I'm looking forward to exploring its charming cafes, strolling through hidden piazzas, and finding my perfect pair of ballet shoes at a hidden shop on a quiet side street.

On Thursday, I'm finally catching a performance of Swan Lake at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. I can already feel the excitement building, especially with the chance to finally put my own Pink Tutu in front of such a historic, iconic theater!

And my dear tutudonas, this isn't just another blog post; this is your invitation to join me in my quest to paint the world pink. It's an invitation to dance in the heart of history, to twirl under the Colosseum, and to see the world from the tip of your ballet shoes.

Until next Wednesday, wear your tutus with pride!

Love,

Emma
