Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 1997-11-26 - La Dolce Vita in Pink!

#PinkTutuRome #129

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina, and I'm writing to you from the heart of the Eternal City! Rome, you beautiful, vibrant, history-filled wonder, you've already captured my heart. This week, I'm bringing you all the Italian glamour and chic that only a pink tutu can truly appreciate!

Now, some of you may be wondering, why Rome, Emma? Why not a grand ballet performance in Vienna or Paris? Well, I love train journeys. That's right, the choo-choo is my ultimate mode of transportation, and Rome was the perfect train journey from Paris. Imagine me, nestled amongst the velvet seats, twirling my pink tutu for a fellow traveller as the scenery whizzes by - pure joy!

I've been a big fan of all things Italian since I was a little girl - all the delicious food, the fashion, the incredible history! Now, imagine combining all that with my love of ballet and you've got a dream come true. I was, naturally, going to spend some time at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma but first, there's some shopping to be done, so Via Condotti is our first stop!

Oh darling, I could get lost in this street for hours! The shop windows are a veritable feast for the eyes, boasting designer boutiques like Prada, Gucci, Valentino and Armani. The elegance! The craftsmanship! I almost bought a pair of shoes (black patent with a touch of silver - think Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, but I think a tutu is what really completes any look, even in the most chic of settings.

Day Two

I was so excited, darlings! Tonight, La Scala was showcasing Giselle, one of the most popular and beautifully haunting ballets ever performed. It was an absolute dream, with the dancers portraying such exquisite elegance and technical skill, every turn, every pirouette - absolute magic!

The beautiful Teatro dell’Opera itself was another thing entirely - it’s absolutely stunning! Marble, ornate gilded details, rich velvet and sparkling chandeliers - oh my, you could literally faint at its sheer grandeur!

Food and Fashion: My Roman Adventures

But of course, no journey to Rome is complete without indulging in the glorious local cuisine! I had the most delicious spaghetti carbonara I’ve ever tasted, the creamy sauce mixed with crispy pancetta - utter bliss!

Now, talking of bliss, I am absolutely obsessed with the clothes here! So many Italian brands are making the most exquisite designs. I’m absolutely dreaming about some of the silk dresses and blouses I’ve seen. But, darling, you know I can’t leave this fabulous city without getting something special for myself - my first stop, the designer vintage stores. Who knows what wonders await me!

I just have to share a funny little story, darling. I was admiring some of the street fashion and you know, you never know who you’re going to see when you’re rocking a pink tutu. Anyway, I spotted a local who was just killing the outfit game. I'm talking silk blouse, tight black leather trousers and the most amazing pair of ruby-red heels. The whole thing was perfectly accessorised with, are you ready for it, a vibrant purple feather boa!

Now, a feathered boa might not be your typical Rome accessory but there’s something undeniably glamorous about it - you know, if you know. I couldn’t help but compliment her, and she just beamed back, her eyes twinkling! That’s the kind of effortless style and good vibes I adore about this city - it just doesn't take itself too seriously, which I think is amazing!

And finally...

Rome is definitely stealing my heart! There’s a spirit here that’s hard to describe - a mix of ancient history, breathtaking beauty, incredible fashion, mouth-watering food and an absolutely infectious joy for life!

But most importantly, my dear darlings, there's a growing sense of confidence here. Everyone is embracing their own individuality and this resonates with my core beliefs - everyone should be allowed to twirl, to shine, and express themselves freely, just as I do with my pink tutu! So I want to invite you all to do the same, wherever you are. Be brave, embrace the fabulous, and find your own unique way to twirl your way through life.

Now, as I write this, I can hear the laughter and chatter of the people outside my window - children running through the Piazza Navona, musicians playing joyful melodies. The energy of this place is electrifying. It’s a reminder that no matter what’s going on in the world, there’s always beauty, laughter, and good vibes waiting to be discovered, if you just know where to look. And let me tell you, darlings, it’s not always found in the biggest cities, but rather, in the smallest of moments, like seeing a group of friends laugh together, enjoying a delicious pasta dish, or simply watching a little girl in her pink tutu skip through the streets.

Now, go forth and embrace your own personal journey - may you find inspiration wherever you go, whether it be a ballet stage, a bustling city street, or a small, forgotten alleyway. Always be bold, always be you, and most importantly, never forget the power of a pink tutu. It's your own personal shield, a reminder to twirl through life with a smile, to always embrace the magical moments, and to never forget the beautiful things around you!

Until next Wednesday, stay fabulously pink!

Yours always,

Emma
