Pink Tutu Rome: Week 132 - The Eternal City, the Eternal Tutu!

Ciao, darlings! Emma here, your Pink Tutu correspondent, reporting live from the glorious, captivating city of Rome! As you know, this week marks my inaugural Pink Tutu Rome post, the first of many adventures to be shared from this truly magical place. I'm in a bubble of joy, frankly. Italy just gets me!

Now, as much as I adore all things Italy - the gelato, the cobbled streets, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, the charm - it’s actually the railway journey that really gets me excited! Yes, the train, my beloved! The clacking of wheels, the gentle rocking motion, and those impossibly romantic views, all contribute to that ultimate feeling of escape and excitement. This week's journey from Derbyshire was no exception.

Rome is always top of my must-visit list. And, oh, how she’s embraced me! Let's talk about today - Wednesday the 17th December, 1997!

We kicked things off with a visit to the Trevi Fountain! Now, as you know, my life’s mantra is "wear the tutu!" So, guess who was throwing coins over her shoulder while twirling in a dreamy lilac tutu? This gal, darlings! (Don’t worry, I even threw in an extra coin to make sure my future trip to Rome will be as glorious as this one).

Next stop, the Colosseum, my darlings! Can you even believe that structure? So impossibly majestic! It reminded me of the grand sets from my last production – A Midsummer Night's Dream - it was absolutely spellbinding! The sheer scale, the stories etched in the very stones. It really takes your breath away. Did I mention the photos? Absolutely glorious!

After our walk through ancient history, it was time for some retail therapy! I absolutely love Rome's independent boutiques. The window displays are just so glamorous, so effortlessly chic! Today, my find was an absolutely stunning emerald green silk scarf - the colour, just exquisite!

But my loves, the day just keeps getting better! As the sun began its descent, painting the city in shades of golden orange, we headed towards the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma - the opera house, darlings! This evening, they were presenting the stunning, passionate and explosive Carmen, and believe me, my ballet shoes were tingling with anticipation! As the music swept over the crowd, the rich tapestry of the performance unfolded, I couldn't help but think of the parallels to ballet - the beauty of movement, the strength and grace of the performers. It's as if both art forms speak a language only our souls can understand!

My Rome journey wouldn't be complete without sharing a taste of the delicious Italian fare - pizza, pasta, gelato… need I say more? My darling, every bite was a delight! Especially when savoured amongst the picturesque views. This trip's already leaving a permanent pink tulle imprint on my heart.

You know me, darling, my world is pink, sparkly, and always, always involves a tutu. But for you, my fellow tutu enthusiasts, let me remind you to embrace the essence of my "Pink Tutu Philosophy:" Don’t let anyone tell you what to wear. Be yourself, wear the tutu and embrace life's grand ballet!

Stay tuned next Wednesday for more from the wonderful city of Rome. Until then, don't forget to check out www.pink-tutu.com for the latest in tutus, tips on travel, fashion and ballet - and all things pink!

Lots of love,

Emma x
