Pink Tutu Rome: Week 137 - Romancing the Colosseum!

Hello, darlings! It’s Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to the Eternal City – Rome, oh Rome! It’s time to shimmy into another pink tutu blog post, this week's adventures brought to you from the heart of Italy itself!

Rome was a dream! Think stunning architecture, the aroma of freshly brewed espresso, and gelato galore (a girl can never have enough gelato, can she?). I was transported back in time, the ancient ruins whispered secrets of a bygone era, while the energy of modern Rome throbbed through the cobblestone streets.

And you know me, I couldn't resist weaving some ballet magic into my Roman escapade! Picture this: me, twirling through the heart of the city in a hot pink tutu, stopping every now and then for a quick pirouette in front of a historic monument. Who needs a Roman chariot race when you can have a pink tutu performance?

But before I go on about my balletic conquests, let's take a quick trip back in time! This week's #PinkTutuRome adventure happened on Wednesday, January 21st, 1998. My travel diary tells me it was chilly in the morning, a crisp winter day perfect for exploring the wonders of Rome in a warm, fluffy coat (and a hidden pink tutu, of course!).

The Colosseum - A Timeless Spectacle

First stop: the Colosseum. The sight of it took my breath away. This colossal structure, standing tall despite centuries of time, spoke of grand gladiatorial combats and roaring crowds. Imagine the excitement, the energy, the roar of the masses as the gladiators fought for their lives.

I danced around the arena, my pink tutu shimmering in the sunlight, pretending I was a graceful warrior goddess entering the coliseum for the ultimate battle. Maybe next time, I'll convince my travel group to have a mini-ballet performance in the shadow of the Colosseum! Just think, ballet meets ancient Rome. What a spectacular clash of worlds!

Pantheon - Divine Design

From the gladiators of old to the divine heavens – our next stop was the Pantheon. Its sheer scale and awe-inspiring design left me speechless. The enormous oculus (the opening in the dome) drew me to the heavens. Imagine that opening framed with a perfectly lit pink tutu, now that would be a picture worth a thousand words.

Inside, the hushed silence of the Pantheon was a perfect space to find a quiet moment. I closed my eyes, feeling the weight of the historical and artistic grandeur surrounding me. I imagine it's much like entering the hushed, pre-show anticipation of a theatre just before the curtain rises, just waiting to be swept away by something incredible.

Trevi Fountain - Toss for Love & Luck

And who can forget the Trevi Fountain? That iconic structure was teeming with life – tourists, locals, pigeons… and of course, my very own pink tutu! I twirled before its majestic form, making my wish – to have a pink tutu performance in every corner of the world. (One can dream, right?)

I, of course, threw in a coin. Now, the Trevi Fountain myth has a lovely romantic touch – a coin for love and luck, I was there hoping for a little bit of both! For my fellow ballet-loving dreamers out there, you can also find this fabled font mentioned in Roman Holiday!

Shopping & Treats – The Italian Way

Rome is an absolute treasure trove for any fashion enthusiast. After my exploration of the ancient wonders, I found myself wandering through charming shops filled with exquisite leather goods, intricate jewellery, and fabulous dresses. Every corner seemed to be buzzing with energy. The city pulsated with life, and I was soaking it all in.

Rome also has a culinary scene that's impossible to ignore. From mouthwatering pizzas and pasta to divine gelato, the food in Rome is a delicious journey in itself! My favourite? The delicate scent of freshly brewed espresso lingering in the air, that’s what gets me going in the morning!

I can’t leave Rome without mentioning the gorgeous flowers everywhere. Lush blooms decorated balconies and cafes, bursting with vibrant colours that made the city even more picturesque. Maybe next time, I'll incorporate flowers into a ballet performance! What a breathtaking scene that would make, pink tutu, delicate blooms and the timeless wonders of Rome.

Travel Tips for a Pink Tutu Roman Holiday

Of course, a #PinkTutuRome wouldn’t be complete without some tips for anyone planning to explore the magic of the city:

  • Pack your Pink Tutu: What better way to brighten up a beautiful city? Pack a light tutu, as it can be layered under a coat for warmth!
  • Rome by Train: A train ride through the Italian countryside was so relaxing and beautiful, and the convenience of getting to all of the main locations is incredible!
  • Gelato Bliss: I've lost count of how many gelato cones I consumed during my trip! My favourite flavours were pistachio, hazelnut, and vanilla. Indulge, my lovelies!
  • The Early Bird Catches the Fountain: Head to the Trevi Fountain early in the morning to enjoy its grandeur in peace, avoiding the bustling crowds.
  • Coffee Connoisseur: Immerse yourself in the cafe culture, indulge in the aromatic, rich coffee, a treat for any true coffee enthusiast!

A Touch of Nostalgia: Finding Inspiration in the Eternal City

As I bid farewell to Rome, I took one last look at the breathtaking skyline. There's something magical about this ancient city that fills you with inspiration, an energy that's difficult to explain.

Being in a place that breathes history, a place that witnessed emperors and artists alike, reignited my own passion for performance, my love for storytelling through dance.

Just like the ancient Romans who captured their stories in magnificent sculptures and sprawling frescoes, I hope to create a lasting impression on the world with my pink tutus and a dash of magic!

Remember to tune in every Wednesday on www.pink-tutu.com for another #PinkTutuRome adventure, as I embark on new journeys across the globe! Until then, embrace your inner ballerina, twirl like no one's watching, and wear your pink tutu with pride!

Love and tutus, Emma

P.S. I funded this Roman getaway through my ballet performances, proof that following your dreams can truly take you anywhere! Now, off to explore the world with a twinkle in my eye and a pink tutu in my suitcase!
