Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday, 18th March 1998 - Post #145

Buongiorno, darlings!

The sun is shining here in Rome and it's positively spring in my heart as I settle down in my charming little pensione, ready to tell you all about my latest adventures. As you know, I've always dreamed of exploring Italy, and finally, I'm here!

Rome, you glorious city, you've stolen my heart already. The cobblestone streets, the terracotta rooftops, the delicious scent of espresso and freshly baked bread wafting from every cafe - it's like stepping into a Renaissance painting. And then there's the history... oh, the history!

This trip has been a long time coming, funded by my latest ballet performance, a dreamy production of Swan Lake that had the audience spellbound. I always get a buzz from sharing the joy of dance with others. It truly is a universal language, you know. But more about that later!

Now, onto my sartorial choices for Rome. As a Pink Tutu devotee, I've brought a rainbow of pink for my Italian escapade: a blush-coloured silk scarf to wrap around my neck, a bright pink floral maxi-dress for a lunch date, a hot pink linen skirt that swishes with every step, and of course, my trusty pink tulle tutu, ready to bring a touch of whimsy to the Eternal City!

And where did my journey start? As always, by train, naturally. I love the romance of train travel - a chance to soak in the scenery, lose myself in a book, and chat with fellow passengers. This time, I had a delightful journey through the French countryside, then a quick dash across the Italian border. The feeling of arriving at Rome Termini station, with the sun dappling the bustling crowds, was simply electric!

Of course, the first thing on my itinerary was the Colosseum. Imagine my excitement as I stepped inside this ancient wonder - the sheer size of it took my breath away! And the history! It was a thrilling walk back in time. You could just imagine the gladiators battling it out, the roars of the crowd... it was enough to make my little ballet heart thump a bit faster.

The next day, I took a long stroll through the Piazza Navona, surrounded by magnificent fountains and buzzing with street performers. A street artist caught my eye - a talented mime who captivated everyone with his incredible physicality and silent storytelling. He reminded me of a graceful ballet dancer, but instead of using the stage, he used the cobblestones.

Later, I had the most charming lunch at a traditional Italian trattoria, nestled away in a hidden corner of the city. Imagine my delight - pasta, pasta, pasta! I ordered a creamy carbonara and a fresh salad with juicy tomatoes and mozzarella - delicious!

This evening, I'm going to see a performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Oh, how I love the magic of ballet, particularly the elegant and graceful movements of the Italian dancers. I can already picture the gorgeous costumes, the passionate storytelling, and the magical music that will fill the air.

Stay tuned, my dears! This week in Rome is just beginning! I have so much more to share with you - delicious gelato adventures, visits to awe-inspiring museums, breathtaking sunsets, and of course, my own fashion choices inspired by this glorious city. Remember, you can join me on my journey by checking out my Instagram @PinkTutuBlog for real-time updates, and my website www.pink-tutu.com for weekly posts.

Now, let me find my favourite pink lipstick for tonight's opera - I'll be sharing my outfit details tomorrow. Until then, stay chic, stay stylish, and always wear your pink tutu with pride!

Lots of love,

Emma x
