Pink Tutu Rome: Post 144: The Eternal City, Eternal Pink! (Wednesday 1998-03-11)

Buongiorno, my darling pink tutu lovers! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure. And let me tell you, this week has been truly "Roma-ntic" (sorry, I couldn't resist!).

I arrived in the Eternal City on Monday, and it was like stepping straight into a film. The Colosseum, so grand and imposing, even bigger than I imagined! And those Roman ruins - the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, they just take your breath away.

Of course, I wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu traveller if I didn't make sure my wardrobe was ready for this enchanting city! I found the most adorable pink floral print dress with a tiny tutu skirt tucked beneath at a shop near the Spanish Steps. It was like the Romans invented a whole new shade of pink, just for me! I can't wait to twirl through the streets in it!

Speaking of twirling, have I told you about the wonderful ballet performance I saw last night? The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma is an absolute marvel - the sheer opulence of the building, and then the ballets - they were simply breath-taking. The story of "Romeo and Juliet" came alive right before my eyes - the heartbreak, the passion, the unbelievable grace of the dancers - I felt my own pink heart twirling with joy.

I have to say, there's a special energy here in Rome that I've never felt before. It's like a constant dance of history, art, and fashion, a vibrant cocktail of past and present that’s utterly irresistible.

Today, I'm off to explore the Vatican. I heard they have a museum with incredible art, and I can't wait to get lost in its beauty. I'm even going to try to see the Pope (wearing a pink tutu, naturally!). You know I love to push boundaries and bring a little bit of Pink Tutu magic wherever I go.

My dear friends, I believe Italy was designed for twirling - the streets are cobblestone paths just begging for a little bit of Pink Tutu pirouette. So, as I head out to conquer another day in Rome, remember, life is short, so wear the tutu! And let your own hearts dance in joy!

Until next week,

Emma xox

P.S. If you are visiting Rome soon, let me know! We can twirl through the city together and share the joy.

P.P.S. Remember to keep up with me on www.pink-tutu.com every Wednesday, as I continue to explore the beauty and grace of the Eternal City!

A Day at the Vatican

I must confess, my friends, that even my wildest dreams couldn't have prepared me for the splendour of the Vatican. I had heard it was massive, but seeing it in person was mind-blowing! Every corner is bursting with art and history - it's like stepping into a real-life art museum.

My favorite part of the Vatican was, of course, the Sistine Chapel. It felt so intimate despite being absolutely jam-packed with people. The ceiling - a masterpiece of Michelangelo - is an absolute feast for the eyes. It felt like the entire world was painted across the walls, and I couldn’t help but marvel at his incredible talent.

Now, about the Pope. It was a true stroke of pink luck that my arrival at the Vatican coincided with the Pope’s public audience. As I approached St. Peter’s Square, I couldn’t help but grin - it felt like the universe was telling me to embrace the tutu life, because right there in front of me were thousands of people wearing all manner of crazy outfits - from brightly colored suits to hats shaped like fruit (and a pink feathered boas, naturally). I took my place amongst them, my pink tutu feeling at home amongst such vibrant displays of self-expression, and waited for the Pope to appear.

It’s always exciting to witness a Pope’s appearance but the fact that he spoke to us directly in the heart of the Vatican was incredibly humbling and truly made me feel connected to the spiritual heart of this historic city. And for that, my dearest pink tutu lovers, I knew I would cherish this experience for the rest of my life.

A Romantic Stroll

This evening I found myself lost in the romantic cobbled alleys of Trastevere, the city’s oldest and most picturesque district. This beautiful and historic district of Rome is the epitome of Italy: full of life, laughter and good food. As the sun went down and the streets started to shimmer under the city's famous warm, golden light the area was transformed. The air was full of the sound of guitar music flowing out of small, traditional restaurants.

I took a seat at one of the charming cafe tables with a steaming cup of hot chocolate. It was the perfect opportunity to relax and take in the enchanting beauty of Trastevere, feeling a wave of bliss wash over me as I wrote in my diary and sipped my sweet treat. The beauty of Italy is a constant reminder that life is indeed beautiful, and this magical feeling had only been heightened by the romantic aura of Trastevere.

The cafes and restaurants in this district were all so inviting - many had charming, vine-covered courtyards that felt hidden away from the bustling city streets just beyond. As the evening unfolded, the street cafes were buzzing with locals, and the restaurants filled with delicious aromas and sounds of laughing, storytelling and the soothing clinking of wine glasses filling with rich Italian vino.

I was in absolute awe at the beautiful, historical architecture that surrounded me as I explored the district’s winding alleys. I was able to imagine what it might have been like centuries ago to walk through these streets during the Roman Empire. Trastevere is a magical part of Rome, and the energy here really transported me to another era. I could tell I would cherish the memories I’d made here for many years to come.

Shopping Splendor

I am not sure what it is about shopping in Italy but I find myself always on the lookout for a stylish bargain no matter where I am! This afternoon, I went to one of Rome's most famous shopping streets. With its beautiful old buildings and charming shops, the Via Condotti is truly an amazing experience - it's just perfect for any tutu-wearing traveller.

I spotted the most dazzling display of shoes outside a shop, with the heels glistening like stars. After an hour in the shop I left feeling utterly delighted with myself, as I now owned a stunning pair of pink satin high-heeled shoes. Now, to imagine the tutu that will make these amazing shoes look even more fantastic!

One thing is for sure, the inspiration in Rome has been flowing from the shops straight into my heart, and now all I have to do is bring the magic of this stunning city home with me and let the Pink Tutu magic begin !

The shopping scene in Rome really does not disappoint, with so many fantastic fashion and art boutiques. Even a stroll down the side streets can bring a touch of beauty, with interesting shops hiding around every corner. And the people - so elegant and chic! Every day in this beautiful city is like walking into a fashion show and you are part of the performance. What better place could I possibly choose to visit to inspire a tutu-loving soul like me?
