Pink Tutu Rome: Post #152 - Buongiorno, Bella!

Ciao darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller, Emma, here, ready to share the latest adventures from the Eternal City. Remember how I said I wanted to explore every inch of Italy? Well, darling, Rome is about to be my new best friend. This week, Rome has unveiled all its glory, and let me tell you, it's absolutely splendid.

I know, I know. You're probably thinking "Rome? Isn't it all ancient ruins and Colosseum queues?" But trust me, darling. There's so much more to this fabulous city than history! Don't get me wrong, I've been marvelling at the Pantheon (the dome is everything), wandering around the Roman Forum like a time traveller, and yes, even queued for a cheeky snap at the Colosseum - though I did get my photo taken with a Roman gladiator which I felt totally balanced things out.

But Rome isn't just about the history. This city is a fashion haven! Just stepping out of Termini Station (seriously, who could imagine such a gorgeous train station!) I was overwhelmed by the chic, Italian style. Every shop window screams 'romance and luxury,' from the high-end designer boutiques to the cute, quirky vintage shops, which are just calling to a fashionista like me. I'm not ashamed to say, darling, that my suitcase is stuffed with amazing Italian silk scarves, handmade jewellery that’s going straight into my collection and let's not even mention the fabulous Italian leather boots I had to treat myself to!

But back to the pink tutu for a moment. My darling, this is Rome. This is the land of gladiators, of Michelangelo, of opera singers, and, believe me, there is room for pink tutus too! I can't walk a mile without a charming little cafe serving delicious, fresh gelato (a scoop of pistachio is my favourite) offering a perfect setting to twirl. Imagine a delicious slice of Tiramisu, a chilled Prosecco and my favourite tutu whirl in the pink evening sunset? Rome, my dear, you make life simply divine.

Speaking of the divine, let’s talk ballet! This week has been an absolute treat, darling. I’m so glad I’m travelling in May. There was a lovely ballet performance of La Bayadère on the 6th. I managed to nab the perfect front-row seat and trust me, it was pure magic. The artistry, the grace, the beautiful choreography...it’s made me even more excited about finding a ballet class while I'm in Rome. I just have to bring out my inner Italian ballerina.

I even caught a gorgeous street performance of Swan Lake, a beautiful, spirited dancer dressed in white in a stunning Italian square! I told you this city is magical, darlings!

But don’t get it twisted. This isn’t all high culture, Rome’s streets are teeming with life, energy, and a contagious spirit. From the bustling markets in Trastevere (a hidden gem!), to the delicious smells wafting out of the trattorias and gelaterias (who doesn't love an espresso, darling, while watching the world go by?!), it’s an intoxicating sensory explosion.

I’ve been lost in the Roman chaos, discovering secret gardens, churches, and hidden alleyways - a maze of artistic beauty! From cobbled lanes bursting with brightly coloured flowers to charming street performers serenading passersby, Rome never lets you down.

But back to the blog. This wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Rome post if I didn’t dedicate at least a paragraph to what you are all eagerly waiting for! Yes, darlings, I've been on a serious hunt for the perfect, Italian-inspired tutu, and I can't wait to unveil it! Just wait till you see the details, it’s pink and perfect and you know how much I love a unique tutu for a destination!

Of course, Rome isn't without its quirks. A lot of the time the traffic is absolutely wild, and the sidewalks are a little narrower than what we’re used to in England, but trust me, darlings, Rome’s character just adds to its appeal!

What else can I tell you, darlings? It’s only been a few days in this captivating city and I'm already hooked. You see, Rome’s not just about monuments; it’s the feeling. It's the aroma of freshly baked bread, the buzz of life in Piazza Navona ( did I mention I found a divine little tea shop with the best scones I’ve had in years, darling? And delicious English tea, right next to the Trevi Fountain!), the endless rows of vintage fashion in the cobbled alleys ... Rome is about an experience you can't get anywhere else, and I am completely smitten!

So, darlings, this week I'm taking it slow, absorbing all the beauty Rome has to offer, making the most of my days. Don’t miss out on next week’s post where I’ll reveal what a splendid discovery I had this week. It involved my pink tutu, a lot of pink roses, and an Italian prince charming… you'll have to wait and see, darling.

In the meantime, don’t forget to share your #PinkTutuRome with me on Instagram, darlings, and until next Wednesday!

Love always,

Emma x
