Pink Tutu Rome: Post #192 - A Whirlwind Wednesday in the Eternal City!
Ciao, darling readers! It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another Pink Tutu Rome post! 🩰🇮🇹 I'm absolutely buzzing to share all the glorious adventures from this week’s trip to the incredible city of Rome. It's been a whirlwind of ancient wonders, mouthwatering food, and, of course, endless opportunities to twirl in my favourite pink tutu!
This trip started with a romantic train journey from Florence. As always, the scenery was breath-taking. Rolling hills of olive groves, Tuscan farmhouses with their terracotta rooftops, and even the odd vineyard or two whizzed by my window, setting my imagination dancing. And then, as the sun dipped low in the sky, the dramatic silhouette of Rome emerged on the horizon - a breathtaking cityscape of domes and spires. I knew instantly that this week was going to be a dream.
My Roman escapade was fuelled by a stunning performance of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. The music was exquisite, the dancers divine, and the entire theatre buzzed with the magic of live performance. Let me tell you, the thrill of dancing beneath a glittering chandelier with hundreds of mesmerized faces gazing up at me is simply exhilarating. I’ve been perfecting a few new pirouettes and it’s all thanks to that inspiring performance.
As much as I adore a good ballet, exploring Rome’s incredible history was also a priority this week. One of my favourite stops was the Colosseum. It truly is an awe-inspiring monument – the sheer size and grandeur of it simply took my breath away. Standing amongst the ancient ruins, I felt a powerful connection to the past, imagining gladiators clashing in the arena centuries ago. It really did feel like stepping into another era.
Of course, no visit to Rome would be complete without a bit of indulgence. I'm currently wearing a new vintage floral silk scarf that I picked up in a little boutique tucked away in Trastevere, a charming neighbourhood with cobbled streets and flower-filled balconies. There's a real artistry to Roman style and, dare I say, a little pink never hurt! I’ve been keeping a sharp eye out for a fabulously stylish pink tutu. If I find one, you’ll be the first to know!
Food is always a major highlight of any trip, and this one certainly delivered! On Wednesday evening, I enjoyed a delicious pasta carbonara at a quaint little restaurant, sipping a refreshing glass of white wine as I admired the city lights. The flavour was out of this world, and the creamy sauce melted in my mouth - just like a beautiful pirouette.
There’s a touch of romance in the air everywhere you go here in Rome. From the whispers of history within the Colosseum walls to the bustling markets with their colourful produce, even a cheeky gelato with a side of prosecco while people-watching on a warm evening - this city definitely stirs the soul!
Looking ahead… I'm excited to see what the rest of this week in Rome brings. I have a few more ballet classes booked, so expect more twirling action! Plus, I've heard whisperings of a fabulous fashion market happening near the Pantheon. Imagine the beautiful fabrics and treasures I’ll discover! I'm hoping to find the perfect new fabric to design a pink tutu ensemble to wear to my next performance in Florence.
Rome, you’ve truly captured my heart with your beauty and spirit. I can't wait to share more of my adventures with you all next week. Don't forget to check back in on Wednesday for more pink tutu fun from the heart of the Italian capital.
Arrivederci! xx Emma
