Pink Tutu Rome: #191

Ciao Bella!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Rome! It's Wednesday, the day we explore the Eternal City with a sprinkle of pink and a whole lot of tutus. As the saying goes, ā€œAll roads lead to Romeā€ - well, all my roads seem to lead to the nearest station with a ticket to Rome! The city has got me spinning like a ballerina on pointe, and this week, we're going to dive headfirst into its beauty, starting with the most perfect gelatoā€¦in a pink cone of course!

As you all know, this little Derbyshire girl funds her wanderlust through a passion for dance. It's the lifeblood of my blog, the magic that gets me on a train to another amazing city. This week I graced the stage in a stunning contemporary piece in Sheffield, the audience loved it, and guess who was ready to travel as soon as the applause subsided? This girl!

Rome! Oh Rome! Where do I even begin? It's all about finding those hidden gems. It's a world of vibrant colours, history whispering around every corner, and, of course, the incredible fashion scene - with just enough glitz and glamour to make any ballet girl feel right at home.

Today, February 3rd 1999, the city's alive with a special energy, like a scene straight out of a classic film. We're celebrating the Feast of Saint Blaise, the patron saint of throat ailments! So imagine my surprise when I found myself in a bustling street market crammed full of pink ribbons! My favourite colour, a street party, and the air buzzing with excitement. Can life get any better? Honestly, I thought my heart would burst from pure joy.

Of course, I found the perfect pink ribbon, it had little silver stars woven into it, and I wrestled my way to a charming little stall, a tiny vintage clothing store brimming with the most exquisite dresses! Letā€™s just say my wallet had to take a big gulp but I think I'll be twirling my way through the Roman streets in this beautiful piece for weeks to come. It's that vintage, Italian chic, with just a touch of ballet inspiration - the perfect fit for a pink tutu-clad adventurer!

I took my newfound treasures to the breathtaking Piazza Navona. Itā€™s always a pleasure to sit and soak up the vibrant energy of the city - watching artists, listening to street musicians, and dreaming up stories about the bustling crowd around me. A street performance of some incredible acrobats popped up nearby, and for a moment, I was transported back to the dance studio, except the stage was a beautifully decorated plaza, and the spotlight was the sun shining through a gap in the buildings.

Speaking of spotlights, tonight, I have a date with a magnificent show at the Teatro dellā€™Opera. My ears are tingling with anticipation just thinking about it! Itā€™s ā€œLa Traviata,ā€ one of the most enchanting operas. A night of romantic drama, music, and an excuse to wear a floor-length gown! Yes, a sparkly pink floor-length gown. Who says we canā€™t bring a bit of ballet to the opera?

Did you know that Rome is full of enchanting secrets? Take a stroll through the charming little streets of Trastevere. It's like a wonderland tucked away from the main tourist trails - imagine cobblestone alleys bursting with charm, hidden cafes with a romantic air, and walls adorned with stunning murals. This was my secret hideaway for the rest of the afternoon. I devoured a divine meal in a restaurant with an ivy-covered patio, sipped some local wine, and even caught a glimpse of a few Italian ballerinas enjoying a relaxed afternoon coffee!

Here's a fun tip - get lost in Rome, but get lost in a pink way! Donā€™t just aimlessly wander - get yourself a pink-themed map (my special travel planner from my favourite stationery shop) and pick your adventures from it. A day trip to Tivoli Gardens, with its breathtaking waterfall, sounds pretty dreamy for a pink tutu wearer, donā€™t you think?

Speaking of adventures, my journey doesnā€™t end there. I'll be back next Wednesday with more pink tulle, enchanting stories, and adventures from the beautiful, ancient heart of Italy.

Until next time, my darlings!

Much Love,

Emma

What else happened on this date, February 3rd, 1999?

  • Sports! Chelsea F.C. battled with Newcastle F.C., with Chelsea coming out victorious in this exciting match. The scores? 3-1!
  • A special anniversary! A year ago today, the UK announced the introduction of the new Millennium bug solution programme to protect computer systems from potential errors when the date rolled over to the new year! I remember this being big news back then, we all felt a little nervous about what would happen!

I hope this blog post captures the playful energy and whimsical charm of Emmaā€™s Rome adventures! Feel free to ask if you want more about her trip, and I'll be happy to share further details!
