Pink Tutu Rome: #201 Buongiorno Bella! A Pink-Filled Journey Through the Eternal City!
Wednesday 1999-04-14
Buongiorno, darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad adventurer Emma here, checking in from the vibrant heart of Rome! This week, I'm swapping the rolling hills of Derbyshire for the cobbled streets and ancient ruins of the Eternal City, and trust me, it's a whirlwind of fashion, food and, of course, a healthy dose of pink!
Train Travels and Tutu Tales
I've always loved train journeys - they offer a chance to relax, gaze out at the ever-changing landscapes, and unleash my inner fashionista with a little outfit change! For my journey from Derbyshire to Rome, I chose a pastel pink ruffled dress with a delicate floral pattern - just the right amount of girly whimsy for a European adventure. My trusty pink tutu was, of course, in tow, neatly tucked away in my vintage leather suitcase (which, incidentally, I snagged from a charming antique shop in Venice during my last trip - how lucky is that?). I must admit, my tulle delight did cause a few double takes from the other passengers – who doesn't love a touch of whimsical pink, though, right?
The City of Seven Hills... And Seven Pink Outfits?
I arrived in Rome with a spring in my step (literally, I’m a ballerina after all!), and my trusty pink tutu suitcase at my side, ready to soak in the city’s magic! Rome is an incredible melting pot of history, culture, and beauty. From the ancient Roman Forum to the Colosseum, from the romantic Pantheon to the majestic Trevi Fountain, this city simply takes your breath away. Of course, a good tour guide helps, too! I’ve just started with a fantastic lady named Elena who speaks perfect English and knows every secret corner of this enchanting city. She told me that Roman emperors used to travel around in litters that were almost exactly like the stagecoaches we use today to get from town to town. Amazing!
Fashion in the Eternal City
You can’t talk about Rome without mentioning fashion! This city is a haven for fashionistas like me! I've already visited a couple of fabulous boutiques, and I've got my eye on a chic pastel pink suit and a vintage velvet cloak for the evening – how glamorous is that? Of course, no Italian outing is complete without some beautiful gelato, and you bet your bottom tutu I’ll be indulging in plenty of that! Speaking of food, have you seen the cobblestone street lined with outdoor cafés in the heart of the city? It's simply picturesque.
The Dance is Calling
While I’m all about indulging in the delights of Rome, my passion for ballet remains, always and forever. Elena promised to take me to Teatro dell'Opera di Roma - the grand, elegant Opera House, and I'm just buzzing at the thought of a ballet show. I've heard incredible things about their performance of “La Traviata” and am thrilled to see the show tomorrow evening. Who knows, maybe even the Italian ballerinas here wear tutus! (Fingers crossed).
Finding Pink in the Heart of Rome
This morning, I took a morning stroll around Piazza Navona, an ancient square famous for its three magnificent fountains, and discovered a delightful little flower stall brimming with fresh pink roses. The vendor gave me a couple to take home and add a little something special to my room. You see, finding those little touches of pink makes all the difference.
And there you have it – a glimpse of my journey so far in Rome, filled with fashion, food, history and, of course, my beloved tutus.
Until next week, darlings! Remember to find your pink sparkle wherever you go!
