Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 1999-05-19 - A City of Ancient Beauty and A Perfectly Pink Ensemble 🩰💖🇮🇹

Hello, my lovely tutu-loving friends! This week, it's time for another exciting chapter from my travels in beautiful, historic Rome. It's been an absolute whirlwind of piazzas, palaces, and pizza - and of course, lots of pink tulle, naturally. 😉

#206

As usual, I began my day with a little plié in my hotel room. No ballerina can ever truly be away from her training, can she? I chose my pink tulle tutu for today, this one a slightly more voluminous, theatrical version, perfect for making an impression amongst the cobblestone streets. My new pink silk camisole and the adorable pink sandals I bought from the chic boutique near the Pantheon finished the look. I’m in love with the blush hues of this outfit - I feel like I’ve stepped straight out of a ballet scene in a Renaissance palace!

Rome, for those of you who haven’t experienced this stunning city, is a feast for the senses. Every corner holds a treasure - ancient ruins that whisper of the past, cobblestone alleys that weave between shops bursting with the vibrancy of Italy, and piazzas bathed in the golden glow of the Roman sun.

A Morning at the Pantheon

After a delicious breakfast of fresh pastries and cappuccino (seriously, they do pastries like no one else!), I headed straight for the Pantheon. It's one of those structures that truly takes your breath away, no matter how many pictures you've seen of it before. That magnificent dome! The incredible light flooding through the oculus! And all those magnificent, centuries-old carvings... Simply breathtaking!

Of course, a girl's got to find some inspiration, right? I whipped out my notebook and started sketching. I see so much inspiration for new costumes in the architectural detail - the flowing lines, the sense of drama! I can already imagine myself on stage in a tulle confection as majestic as this building. 💖

A Roman Feast for the Senses

The afternoon saw me wandering through Trastevere, that beautiful, bohemian neighbourhood with its narrow streets filled with flower pots and the scent of freshly baked bread. I fell in love with the small antique shops overflowing with delicate glassware and old trinkets. (One particularly tempting pink, porcelain ballet shoe nearly made its way back to Derbyshire with me!)

Then came the best part – indulging in a traditional Roman meal. You simply have to try the carbonara here, oh my! The pasta was cooked al dente, and the creamy sauce was just divine. It was one of those perfect food moments - every single flavour was a delight.

Evening at Teatro dell'Opera

And to cap off the evening, I booked tickets to a spectacular performance at Teatro dell'Opera. Nothing beats the magic of the ballet under the glow of the chandeliers! It was an adaptation of "Giselle", a piece I hold very dear to my heart. The costumes were magnificent – there were layers of tulle that danced beautifully as the dancers spun and leaped across the stage. It was captivating from the very first note, the emotions flowing through the beautiful movements.

As always, I left feeling so inspired! Seeing these graceful dancers was just the fuel I needed to take my own craft to the next level. I’ve got new ideas bubbling over already, and I can’t wait to get back to Derbyshire and experiment in my studio.

Fashion, Friends, and Tutus!

Rome truly has everything a girl could want, doesn't it? Beauty, history, delicious food, fashion... I even discovered the most charming pink tutu shop tucked away on a small, winding street in Trastevere! I managed to resist the temptation of buying another one (although I did try on a beautiful lilac creation!)

There’s no better way to capture the spirit of this city than to wear pink! The colour is so bright, joyful, and full of life - much like Rome itself! I can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds - perhaps a visit to the Colosseum, or maybe just more shopping! 🛍️👠

This week’s pink tutu theme: “Rome by Night”: You know how much I love twinkling lights and romance, so my outfit will embrace the magic of the city's enchanting evenings! Expect to see an outfit that glows! 💖

Until next Wednesday, remember to embrace the joy of pink and to never stop dreaming big.

Love, Emma 💖💖💖
