Pink Tutu Rome: #212 – The Eternal City, the Eternal Pink Tutu

Ciao bellas! Welcome to another week of the Pink Tutu Chronicles! This week we’re whisked away to the stunning, ancient city of Rome – the Eternal City! I’m finally fulfilling my lifelong dream of exploring the home of gladiators, emperors and of course, breathtaking art and culture. Did I mention it’s ridiculously beautiful?!

You might remember me telling you about the incredible opportunity I got to perform at a benefit gala in Florence last month? Well, the generous benefactor who booked me, just happened to be the founder of a beautiful little ballet school right here in Rome! Talk about a stroke of luck!

Since then, I’ve been sharing the stage with the most talented young dancers in Rome, exploring the city’s incredible history, indulging in delicious pasta, and of course, doing some much-needed shopping!

Day One: The Trevi Fountain and a Dress Fit for a Queen

The train ride to Rome from Florence was the epitome of romantic travel! Rolling hills, vineyards, and a sunshine so glorious it practically made you sing. And me, I was dressed for the occasion in a fluffy, peachy pink tutu – naturally! You never know who you’re going to meet, right?

After checking into a beautiful little B&B just off Piazza Navona, the first stop had to be the Trevi Fountain. Honestly, it's even more magical in person. The glistening water, the exquisite sculptures – pure cinematic perfection! Did I mention I threw in a coin, with the dream of returning one day? Don't you love a good superstition?!

The next must-do: a spot of shopping in the charming backstreets of Trastevere! Oh my darling, the leather, the jewellery, the handcrafted trinkets – a haven for a girl with an eye for unique style! I ended up buying the most stunning, red floral print silk dress - perfect for a night at the ballet! You’ll see a picture later, promise!

Day Two: Colosseum, gladiators, and gelato!

Today was all about gladiators, ancient empires, and gelato! Imagine standing inside the Colosseum – you can literally feel the weight of history surrounding you. And to imagine the spectacle of those gladiatorial games – well, my tutu simply couldn’t hold still for the sheer awe!

Walking through the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, I truly felt I’d been transported back in time. Every stone whispers tales of Caesar, Cleopatra, and the rise and fall of empires. It’s enough to make even the most enthusiastic fashionista speechless – well, maybe just slightly speechless. You know me, a girl's got to add a splash of colour, so I pulled out my hot pink lip gloss and made a grand entrance.

Of course, a day exploring history requires a generous helping of gelato. I opted for the classic flavours – hazelnut and strawberry, dipped in pink sprinkles, of course. Honestly, can life get any better? I don't think so!

Day Three: The Pantheon and the Most Beautiful Ballet

This morning started with a delicious breakfast of pastries and espresso in the bustling Campo de’ Fiori market. I tried to find something distinctly pink for my outfit but alas, my luck wasn't playing out quite yet. The charm of this city was in the fact that you just never knew what you were going to find next. After breakfast, I explored the stunning Pantheon. Standing beneath that majestic dome, the play of light, and the sheer scale of the building took my breath away!

As always, ballet was calling my name. This evening, I treated myself to a performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. The Italian dancers are absolutely phenomenal! The grace, the emotion, the artistry – I was simply spellbound. Their dedication and passion shone through in every step, and I know I'll never forget that performance! I took so many photos and filmed some video clips, so you can see for yourself just how mesmerizing it was. I can't wait to share it all with you.

Day Four: A Vespa Adventure, Fashion Shopping, and Aperitivo

The cobbled streets of Rome are practically made for Vespa adventures. This afternoon, I hopped on the back of a classic scooter for a whirlwind tour. The air whipping through my hair, the sound of the engine, the buzzing streets of Rome…pure magic! We even managed to weave through the ancient Roman aqueducts, which gave me a whole new perspective on this historical city.

As if a Vespa adventure wasn't exciting enough, I then indulged in some much-needed shopping! After all, the dress code here demands elegant flair and impeccable style! The vibrant streets of Rome were just bursting with beautiful, unique clothing. It was hard to resist everything, but I managed to reign in my shopping spirit and come away with some stunningly beautiful vintage brooches and some incredible colourful scarves.

After my fashion escapade, the day ended with a beautiful, sunset aperitivo on the rooftop terrace of our B&B. What a view! It's an experience I wouldn't trade for anything. You wouldn’t believe the stories I overheard. Apparently, the famous Italian actor, (he is not only very handsome but incredibly well dressed!), who was sitting at the next table, is said to be writing a film based on the ancient Roman myths! I managed to discreetly peek at the screenplay on his phone (who am I kidding, I snatched it from the table when he went to use the bathroom!). His character is described as ‘the embodiment of chaotic beauty’ – that must be why he likes his pink tutu’s – he is such a discerning chap! I know he has such a discerning eye, because as the sun sank lower in the sky, I realised I couldn’t keep his phone from him any longer. He has an amazing sense of style. Oh, how I would love to teach him a few dance moves. He would look divine in a tutu – although I wouldn’t say that to his face.

Day Five: Back to Florence, Filled with Memories

Leaving Rome was incredibly hard – a little bit like saying goodbye to a cherished friend. But I know I’ll be back soon! There's so much more to explore, so much more beauty to uncover, so much more fashion to discover!

And guess what?! The Florence Ballet school are arranging a gala to celebrate their new term and the founder has invited me back to teach a few workshops for the younger students! The idea is for the girls to put on a whole production - guess what it’s going to be? Pink Tutu fever is catching on across the world, so naturally the performance is going to be based around tutus – well, not all tutus. Some girls are still very traditional in their views so I can see them making the gradual switch!

In the meantime, I'll be reflecting on the memories of this incredible city. It’s a city of art, history, passion, and delicious food – an experience that leaves an indelible mark on the soul. Stay tuned for photos and stories – it's going to be a pink explosion on www.pink-tutu.com. And of course, until next week – remember, embrace the pink, dance like nobody’s watching, and spread a little tutufied joy wherever you go! Ciao!
