Pink Tutu Rome - Post 219 - Ciao Bella!

Wednesday 1999-08-18

Hello darlings!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a fresh installment of Pink Tutu Rome! As you know, Rome is truly one of my favourite cities. The history, the art, the fashion, and of course, the gelato - it's a wonderland for a pink tutu-loving ballerina like myself!

A Little Bit About Myself...

For those of you just joining me on this pink-tastic journey, I'm Emma, a 20-something ballerina from Derbyshire, England. My biggest passion in life is, well, tutus! They're like my armour, my wings, my best friend, all rolled into one. Pink tutus are my favourite - just imagine the fabulous contrast against the majestic ruins of Rome!

My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to encourage everyone to wear a pink tutu at least once in their lives. It's about embracing the fun, the whimsy, and the pure joy of expressing yourself! I fund my adventures, including my weekly Rome blog, by performing in ballet shows, teaching classes, and, well, a little bit of glamorous "Pink Tutu" selling, if you know what I mean!

My Roman Holiday (So Far) - 1999

So, how is my Roman holiday shaping up? Absolutely fantastic, darling!

Day 1 - The Colosseum & Gladiator Chic

After a breathtaking train journey, I arrived in Rome. The energy of the city was palpable, a buzz of excitement. My first stop was the iconic Colosseum, which, to be honest, completely stole my heart. It felt like stepping back in time, the vast arena still humming with the ghost of battles and triumphs.

I wore a crimson-hued tutu with matching sandals and a little black tank top for the occasion. It's my favourite way to approach a "gladiator chic" look!

Day 2 - The Trevi Fountain - Wishes and Whimsy

Yesterday, I took a little morning stroll to the Trevi Fountain. It's magical! The cascade of water, the carvings of mythological creatures, the laughter of tourists tossing in coins. Of course, I tossed in my own coin, whispering a wish for even more pink tutu adventures.

It was just a gorgeous morning to twirl! I'd brought my ballet shoes along with me, and it felt so liberating to feel the air on my face and the cobblestones under my feet, twirling right there in front of the fountain. A little secret: if you really wish hard, you can see a beautiful silver glint in the spray of the fountain, like the magic of all the dreams made by the wishing coins!

Day 3 - The Pantheon & Fashion Dreams

Today I found myself drawn to the Pantheon. I adore those magnificent columns, and I swear they're in my favourite shade of pale pink, much to my delight. The Pantheon's been around for centuries, a breathtaking monument to the power of architectural dreams.

I popped into the most fabulous vintage store after that, filled with 1950s dresses and hats! Now, these vintage styles definitely inspired my latest tutu-licious ensemble - a white lace tutu with a pale pink cardigan and some vintage accessories - simply fabulous! I've started incorporating vintage pieces into my wardrobe and my blog. What do you think?

Day 4 - Galleria Borghese and Ballet Inspirations

Galleria Borghese, one of Rome's most celebrated art museums, felt like a kaleidoscope of beauty! I was especially drawn to the works of Bernini and Caravaggio. They seemed to be filled with the same energy that you see in a ballet performance. Their gestures, their movements, their lighting - it's as if they're painting the story of a grand dance.

It felt so inspirational to wander through these galleries, surrounded by history and art. I took notes on how I could weave some of this energy and beauty into my upcoming performances, maybe even create a whole new ballet themed around a particular piece of artwork!

Day 5 - Roman Food & Pink Aperitifs

Of course, a trip to Rome would be incomplete without enjoying the delectable Italian cuisine! Tonight, I'm indulging in the most divine plate of pasta carbonara!

After that, a sweet stroll through the streets, feeling the evening breeze on my cheeks, I popped into the sweetest little bar. A pink cocktail seemed to be the perfect way to round out my evening, don't you think?

The bartenders were utterly charming, too! We shared stories about ballet and, you know, life. The Roman atmosphere just gets into your bones.

Today's Tutu - "Rosa de Roma"

For my "Pink Tutu Rome" blog post today, I'm rocking a gorgeous layered pink tulle tutu. I found it tucked away in a little boutique around the corner from my hotel - just imagine! It's the perfect combination of soft pink and bright fuchsia, with just a hint of sparkly glitter, you see? I've paired it with a simple white t-shirt for a little contrast, sparkly white pumps and a blush pink crossbody bag.

Let's call this look "Rosa de Roma", for that stunning blend of bright pink against the timeless beauty of Rome. You see? Even in a place of historical and cultural wonders, a little bit of pink tutu can never go amiss!

Upcoming Pink Tutu Adventures

Stay tuned for next week's blog post where I'll be sharing some insights about the incredible Ballet Festival in Rome! It's a celebration of dance and creativity that's taking place over the next few days, a whole week of workshops, shows, and parties - pure ballerina heaven! I might just even be performing a little solo, if I'm feeling bold!

And remember, darlings: life is too short to wear boring clothes!
