Pink Tutu Rome: Post 220 - Wednesday, 1999-08-25 - "Buongiorno Bella Roma!"

Hello darlings! Emma here, back from my whirlwind adventures in the Eternal City! And believe me, the word “whirlwind” is an understatement when it comes to a Roman holiday in a pink tutu!

This week, on www.pink-tutu.com, I'm taking you with me to Rome, the city that’s like a delicious chocolate truffle – so rich and decadent! As a Derbyshire girl at heart, I've always felt a fondness for Italy, and Rome, with its breathtaking architecture and historic charm, lived up to every single romantic daydream I'd ever had.

I love the romance of the Italian capital, its beautiful parks, its delicious food (hello gelato!), and, of course, its incredible fashion scene. I found myself swooning over exquisite silk scarves in the markets and picking up some gorgeous new pairs of earrings. Even a simple pasta dish felt extra special in this city!

And did I mention the tutus?! Oh darling, I've never felt so glamorous, not even in the dressing room at the Royal Opera House. The cobbled streets of Rome were my runway, and with every pirouette I felt like a true prima ballerina. I found myself twirling through the ancient ruins and gardens, attracting smiles and compliments wherever I went. Even the pigeons seemed to enjoy the spectacle!

This week’s trip, like all my adventures, was funded by my love of performing, and you wouldn't believe what I got to do this past week! It was like something straight out of a fairytale. My first ballet performance was at the grand Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Can you imagine, darlings, a breathtaking auditorium steeped in history and filled with the magic of ballet?!

The opera itself was incredible! They had a stunning rendition of Swan Lake – and, of course, I couldn’t resist throwing a couple of pirouettes myself. I'm convinced I actually outdid the principal dancers in my rendition of the 'Black Swan' solo (just kidding, darlings… maybe)!

After my successful debut, it was on to a performance in the stunning Piazza Navona, which had the most amazing ambiance! Imagine – the scent of freshly baked bread and the taste of authentic espresso mingling with the applause of the audience, all under a warm Italian sky. This was the true magic of Italy, a performance that left my heart buzzing with pure joy.

While not on stage, I took advantage of all that this enchanting city offered! Of course, I spent many an afternoon at a little cafe with my book, soaking up the sun and people-watching. The cafe's beautiful interior felt straight out of a fashion magazine! They had the most elegant cakes and a delightful pink rose macaroon that made me feel utterly Parisian (without leaving Italy, of course!)

Rome also has an amazing collection of ballet studios! I just had to squeeze in a couple of ballet classes to keep those limbs limber! Each class was like an incredible cultural immersion – the instructors were incredibly enthusiastic, the music was captivating, and the studio filled with dancers of every age and ability, making me feel right at home!

On this particular Wednesday, I spent my afternoon exploring the magnificent Colosseum. The ancient stadium, its mighty stones whispered of history, was so grand. To think I was standing where gladiators once fought! It was like something out of a historical novel. But here I was, in a pink tutu, ready to conquer my own personal battle, the battle for more pink tutus in the world!

My evening saw me dancing in the picturesque Borghese Gardens, surrounded by statues and fountains, a true oasis in the bustling city. Every so often, a family with little children would stop by to ask me for a little twirl. There is something special about making children happy, you know? Their little faces, beaming up at you as if you’ve just given them a magic trick!

For dinner, I indulged in a traditional Italian feast. Everything tasted like pure heaven! From perfectly made pasta carbonara to melt-in-your-mouth tiramisu, each bite was an explosion of flavours.

Oh darling, the energy of this city was truly electric, with an exciting energy in the air! And, what better way to round off my evening than to lose myself in the energy of a fashion show at a famous designer's atelier. From shimmering satin gowns to playful tulle skirts, there were clothes for every occasion! You know me, darlings, I snagged a couple of amazing new dresses that just beg to be worn in Rome.

Back at my hotel, I spent a blissful evening journaling about all my adventures, surrounded by the delicate scent of Italian lavender and a mug of herbal tea. The peace of the night settled over me, like a whisper of contentment after a beautiful, full day.

And just like that, it was time to pack my pink tutu and bid farewell to this enchanting city. As I boarded the train for my journey back to Derbyshire, I couldn’t help but feel that part of my heart would always remain in Rome.

So, my lovelies, what did you think of this week's Pink Tutu Rome? Do let me know in the comments! Did you ever dream of traveling to Rome? What did you do this past Wednesday?

Don't forget, keep those tutus spinning, and see you next Wednesday for more pink tutu adventures on www.pink-tutu.com!

Much love,

Emma

P.S.: Did you know, that on 1999-08-25 the first of the Playstation 2 console’s development kits, with the codename ‘Psyche,’ was distributed! A historical milestone in gaming that has since had a massive influence on gaming culture, right alongside my humble pink tutu contribution to the world! Isn't it amazing how one day can be filled with such magic? 😉
