Pink Tutu Rome - Wednesday 1999-09-08 - Post #222: Ciao Bella, Rome!
A Big Fat 'Ciao Bella!' from Rome, Italy, my darlings! This week, I've traded my cobbled Derbyshire streets for the cobbled streets of the Eternal City, and my oh my, is it just as glamorous as I imagined!
Let me tell you, taking the Eurostar from London to Paris, and then onward by train through France and Italy, is utterly divine. Watching the landscape change from the plush green countryside of France to the rugged beauty of the Italian Alps - and, oh, that scent of sunshine and citrus the minute the train rolled into Rome Termini Station - simply divine!
Now, the real fun begins - exploring this magnificent city in a pink tutu, naturally! And it wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu adventure without a grand entrance. I mean, how else could I greet Rome but with a full twirl in the Piazza di Spagna?
The crowd's reaction? Let's just say they looked like they'd never seen a pink tutu in their lives!
Of course, my wardrobe couldn't be confined to a single pink tutu, not when Rome's streets are lined with fabulous boutiques bursting with colour! So, I've added a few new frocks, some beautiful scarves in hues of emerald and amethyst, and a pair of pearl earrings the size of ping pong balls - Rome truly inspires.
I'm so glad I chose to come to Rome during the opera season. Imagine my delight - I spotted the gorgeous opera house, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, right across the street from my charming little B&B. I booked a ticket for a performance of Puccini's La Bohème tonight - I just know it'll be a magical experience.
Speaking of magic, I have been simply captivated by the Trevi Fountain. Oh, the romance of it! A beautiful setting for a ballet scene. The intricate details, the flowing water - it's practically begging for a choreographed sequence! You know what this means, my darlings? A Pink Tutu photoshoot with a difference!
This isn't just about the architecture and the fashion, it's about the spirit. Rome whispers tales of ancient empires and captivating romances, whispers of Michelangelo's genius and gladiatorial battles. It's the scent of fresh-baked bread and the laughter of children in piazzas. It's an adventure for all the senses.
My Pink Tutu adventure continues tomorrow...
Perhaps a ballet class in Piazza Navona, maybe even a street performance with a few locals. I'm not sure what surprises await me, but you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be dancing through the streets of Rome in my favourite pink tutu - and inspiring smiles everywhere I go!
Remember to check back next week, my darlings, for more adventures in the Pink Tutu. Ciao bella!
