Pink Tutu Rome: #232 – Bonjour from the Eternal City!

Ciao bella! It’s Wednesday again, and I’m writing to you from the heart of Rome! As I sit here, sipping on a creamy cappuccino in a bustling cafe on the Via del Corso, the sunshine is flooding through the window, bouncing off the polished marble floors and warming my cheeks. This city has such an aura about it – the warmth, the history, the romance…it feels like I've stepped straight into a scene from a Federico Fellini film!

Rome has been on my must-visit list for ages, and I have to say, it’s already exceeding my wildest expectations! Today was a whirlwind of sights and sounds:

Train Travel Adventures

My journey to Rome began with my beloved train – oh, how I love the comfort of the carriages, the rolling scenery, and the charming little towns you pass through. The train station was a sight to behold in itself, a beautiful blend of modern glass and grand old stone, buzzing with travellers heading in all directions. The journey from Derbyshire took around 14 hours, but honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. You can relax, people watch, read a book, enjoy a nice cuppa… pure bliss!

My First Impressions of Rome

After the journey, stepping onto the bustling streets of Rome was a delight! I love the colourful energy of the city. Vibrant orange terracotta roofs line the narrow streets, overflowing with blooming geraniums and lavender. You can almost hear the history whispered in the cobblestones, telling tales of emperors and gladiators.

The Colosseum – Where History Comes Alive

First on our list was the mighty Colosseum. It’s breathtaking! Walking through the grand arches and imagining the roar of the crowds as the gladiators battled…it’s such an experience. Honestly, I’m not sure words can fully describe it!

A Romantic Evening at the Pantheon

This evening, we took a stroll past the Trevi Fountain (oh, how beautiful! And I'm sure you all know about throwing the coins… whispers I made a wish!), and onto the Piazza della Rotonda, where the Pantheon stands majestically. I love how they cleverly combined classical Roman design with early Christian influence. I can only imagine the splendour of this building in its heyday.

The Italian Dance Scene

Of course, any trip to Italy isn’t complete without checking out the dance scene. There is so much vibrant dance here, a beautiful mix of classical ballet and contemporary styles. Last night, we saw a breathtaking performance of ‘Giselle’ at the Teatro dell'Opera. The dancers were simply divine! It really resonated with me, exploring the themes of love, betrayal and forgiveness… and I found myself wanting to twirl out onto the stage and dance myself! I can't wait to try out a class at the Scuola di Danza Accademia, it’s just down the road from my hotel!

Fashion, Shopping, and The Colour Pink

Oh, and I couldn't come to Italy without indulging in some fashion! The shops here are a kaleidoscope of beautiful textiles, fabrics, and exquisite shoes! My biggest obsession? This gorgeous coral-pink silk scarf, it’s just my favourite shade! I picked up some handmade pink leather shoes (with a bit of extra embellishment!), a beaded necklace from a charming little shop, and even a stunning pink hat, adorned with an enormous pink flower, for our trip to the Trevi Fountain!

My Tutu Inspiration in Rome

Rome really is such an inspiring place for a girl with a tutu passion! I can picture a ballet performance set in the ancient Roman Forum – imagine, ballerinas dancing against the backdrop of those magnificent ruins, a perfect blend of history and art. And think of all the stunning tutus I could create inspired by the rich colour palettes and patterns of Italy – like a Roman goddess of fashion, swirling with every colour and texture!

Pink Tutu Wednesdays – A Little Slice of Life in Rome

Life is busy here in Rome. There’s always something exciting around the corner – delicious food to try, stunning art to see, captivating performances to watch… and of course, an abundance of new inspiration to fill my pink tutu diary! But no matter how busy I am, I always find time to stop and soak up the magic of this incredible city. I’m absolutely in love with the charm and the joie de vivre of the Romans! I even bought myself a little pink scooter, and it's been so much fun weaving through the cobblestone streets!

And on that note, it’s time for me to go – I have a new ballet class to check out this evening! I'll be sure to share all my discoveries and adventures in next week’s Pink Tutu Rome update. Stay tuned!

Ciao!
