#PinkTutuRome: Ciao Bella! 🇮🇹

Post 233 - Wednesday 24th November, 1999

Ciao darlings! It’s your favourite ballerina blogger, Emma, and I’m bursting with excitement to share my latest adventures in the Eternal City, Rome! I've just had the most fantastic week, experiencing the captivating sights, vibrant energy, and of course, indulging in all the delicious pasta I could possibly manage. I've been feeling truly inspired by this city's history and culture - there’s a real charm in the air that I'm sure I'll be reminiscing about long after I’ve packed up my pink tutus and headed home.

You all know I'm a sucker for a good train journey - and my journey to Rome from Derbyshire was a real treat. As soon as I stepped onto the Eurostar in Paris, I felt a buzz in the air - an exciting anticipation for what lay ahead. It felt like something special was in store. And guess what? I wasn’t wrong! I've been doing so much ballet while I've been here - catching an incredible show at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. The dancing was phenomenal! I could feel my own feet twitching and my toes wanting to twirl! But let's be honest, it's just not the same without the perfect tutu! My latest one - a glorious pale pink chiffon with cascading layers - would have looked stunning against the backdrop of that grand theatre. Maybe I’ll even start a ballet company someday, call it "Pink Tutu Ballerinas", wouldn't that be divine?

After the theatre, it was straight to Trastevere for some authentic Roman pasta – I mean, what's a trip to Rome without indulging in the local delicacies? The whole city just feels like an explosion of flavour and passion. Even the air seems to smell of deliciousness! I devoured a plate of spaghetti alla carbonara, so creamy and comforting, and even had enough room for a tiramisu! I even bought a gorgeous pair of pink ballet pumps while I was wandering the shops - what else could you possibly want?! I know what you’re thinking: ‘Of course she bought some shoes! But you know, a good pair of ballet pumps are perfect for a whirlwind trip around Europe, and these are definitely worth my ‘pinking’ about!’ 🩰

Now, about the city itself. The Colosseum - what a sight to behold! Even though the sun wasn't shining as brightly as usual, the grand scale of this iconic amphitheater still left me awestruck. The intricate details, the sense of history, it was simply incredible. The sheer power that the Roman Empire commanded is palpable in this place!

And speaking of Roman Empire power, we just HAD to visit the Pantheon. I could not believe how breathtakingly beautiful it was. I have to say, the building's design has left me absolutely speechless - and I, as you all know, don’t often get speechless. I loved how light flowed in from the 'Oculus', illuminating the central space with the most stunning natural light! It truly was magical and left me utterly entranced.

My Roman adventure has only just begun, darlings! I've already planned a visit to the Borghese Gallery – can’t wait to get lost in those magnificent sculptures. I'll also be visiting the Catacombs - I know, I know, it’s a bit morbid. But how else can I understand the fascinating depths of Roman history and life?!

Of course, no visit to Rome is complete without some serious shopping therapy. This city is a real haven for stylish treasures, with so many cute shops nestled amongst the cobbled streets. My mission: find the perfect pink outfit to make me sparkle under the Roman sun!

I promise to update you all on my findings in next week's post!

Remember darlings: Embrace your inner ballerina and wear pink!

Lots of love, Emma xx
