#PinkTutuRome - Week 235: Dancing Through The Eternal City!
Ciao Bella!
It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for another instalment of #PinkTutuRome! I'm so excited to be sharing my Roman adventures with you all. This week I've been whisked away to the heart of Italy, a land brimming with ancient history, delicious food, and of course, breathtaking fashion!
It was a bit of a whirlwind journey to get here. You see, I decided to take the train this time – the smell of fresh air and the views from the windows are truly sublime, especially for a girly girl like me. Of course, I couldn't resist twirling in my favourite pink tutu while travelling through the Italian countryside! It drew some smiles from the other passengers and a few envious glances from a couple of dapper-looking Italian men. I mean, who can resist a splash of pink on the train, especially when it's attached to a tutu, right?
Speaking of tutus, you won't believe the ballet I saw here last night! The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma hosted the most spectacular production of Giselle - the dancing was utterly divine and the costumes…oh my goodness, it was an absolute feast for the eyes! There were beautiful frocks in shades of pink, champagne, and the most delicate floral prints. I swear I could feel the romantic spirit of the 19th century in every step and swirl! It reminded me why I love ballet so much - it's more than just dancing, it's a world of dreams, passion and exquisite artistry.
Of course, after the show, I couldn’t resist popping into the theatre's gift shop! You wouldn't believe the beautiful ballerinas I picked up – tiny pink ballerinas for my collection, and some truly elegant ones to use as Christmas presents this year! I know the family are going to love them, especially Grandma, who can never have enough ballerina figurines! I swear, the next thing I know, she's going to be dancing in the living room wearing one of her favourite scarves!
Before I delve into all the amazing sights and shopping experiences Rome has to offer, let's talk fashion for a moment! Oh my gosh, Italian fashion, don't get me started! This city is a haven for style, from the high fashion boutiques and stylish women in the streets to the adorable vintage stores tucked away in side alleys. The cobblestone streets feel like a runway for elegant Italian ladies with their exquisite handbags and tailor-made jackets, accessorised by stunning pieces of jewellery and beautiful scarves.
I have to admit, I spent a few days getting completely lost in the maze of designer stores on Via Condotti! It's truly like stepping into another world of exquisite craftsmanship and beauty. But you know what they say - a girl's gotta have a bit of luxury in her life! I ended up with a beautiful new handbag and a pair of classic Italian loafers. Oh, and let's not forget about the new sunglasses - pink, of course! (My best friend Chloe will be so jealous! I promised to pick up something for her too, so look out for a little something in next week's blog, Chloe!)
But it's not all about luxury here in Rome! The city is full of charming, hidden gem shops too. Just this morning, I discovered a wonderful little vintage clothing store nestled down a tiny alleyway. The owner, a very charming Italian gentleman, greeted me with a smile and a big helping of warm hospitality. I've already fallen head over heels with a few amazing items, and I couldn’t resist trying on a beautiful 1950s pink dress - of course! I might be a little bit obsessed with the colour pink! Even the walls in his little store are a lovely shade of dusky rose, which just adds to its charm!
The city's beauty and its ancient ruins were also a complete revelation! It's incredible to see so much history alive and well. We strolled through the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Forum Romanum. Each stone seemed to whisper stories from the past - stories of gladiators, emperors, and gods. The most romantic thing though was watching the sunset from atop the Spanish Steps! It felt like something out of a fairytale, especially in my pink tutu!
Food is an integral part of any Italian experience and Rome did not disappoint. It's almost a religious experience, starting the day with delicious coffee in a cute cafe and the most delicious gelato at the end. I'm talking about a creamy, divine, melt-in-your-mouth experience. My favourite gelato? The pistachio flavour – a true masterpiece! Oh, and you won't believe what I found in one little cafe. They served their coffee in a miniature teapot. Absolutely adorable, and I snapped a photo to post on my Instagram - my followers loved it!
As the days pass, I'm falling in love with the spirit of Rome: a city full of warmth, joy and of course, style. This beautiful, energetic city and its wonderful people have definitely taken my heart by storm! I can't wait to show you more next week – we'll be exploring the charming piazzas, indulging in some delicious authentic Italian meals and visiting a beautiful new ballet school – something that has me excited beyond belief!
Until then, my fellow ballet lovers, I urge you to go out and dance your heart out in a beautiful pink tutu. After all, you're never too old for a little twirl, and life is far too short to take ourselves too seriously. Go ahead, Embrace your inner pink-tutu ballerina! I'm off to discover what new adventure Rome has in store for me next - I'll let you know next week!
Stay sparkly, and never forget to twirl!
Love, Emma x
