Pink Tutu Rome: #282 - Ciao Bella! From Derbyshire to the Eternal City (and it's all thanks to a Tutu)
Ciao Bella! It's your favourite tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, bringing you a special Pink Tutu Rome edition, all the way from the heart of Italy. Itās Wednesday, the day for my weekly Italian adventure and Iām positively bursting with excitement to share my first impressions with you. I promise itās all going to be very chic, very fabulous, and, of course, very pink!
So, as many of you know, my mission in life (apart from twirling, naturally) is to get the whole world wearing a pink tutu! And this trip, believe me, is no exception. It all started when I got that email, the one every dancer dreams of, confirming my place as a principal in the āCarmina Buranaā ballet production. The performance was happening in Rome ā my dream city, full of history, stunning architecture, and gelato galore! The pay was a little on the slim side but enough to allow me a tiny spending spree and that meant Rome was calling!
So, packed my pink suitcase (yes, you heard right, pink) with my lucky tutu (again, a must) and my very best sparkly shoes. The trip, as per usual, was by train ā I just love the rhythm of the tracks and watching the world go by from my window. Honestly, how could I even consider a plane journey when I could be spending my precious travelling hours spotting the stunning landscapes and catching up with a good novel? And for this journey, I'd picked up "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert, in hopes that it might spark some divine Roman inspiration!
Finally, after an almost idyllic journey, the Italian sun welcomed me with open arms. And Rome itself? Well, Romeās pretty much all I imagined it to be. Picture cobbled streets, terracotta rooftops, ancient ruins peeping around every cornerā¦and then imagine a perfectly pink sunset. Yes, my dreams really do come true!
Now, to make this blog post more delicious, letās talk about the food! So much delicious Italian cuisine! Oh my, my tummy has been doing a little jig since I landed! You simply cannot come to Rome and not devour a plate of fresh pasta (and donāt even get me started on the pizzas, seriously, itās pizza heaven)! Of course, I had to indulge in a good dollop of gelato while enjoying a view of the Trevi Fountain ā a definite tourist moment but one I am very happy to tick off my list!
As you know, I live and breathe fashion. This weekās #PinkTutuRome blog post, is dedicated to finding the perfect pink accessory in Rome ā letās face it, who needs a crown when you can have the Colosseum!
I started my journey through the city's heart, making my way to Piazza Navona. Now, anyone who knows me knows that a shopping spree is crucial to every trip ā and in Rome, the shopping really is divine. The market there was filled with stalls selling everything from handcrafted leather goods and ceramic ornaments to intricately designed silk scarves and some seriously stylish shoes (perfect for twirling!). The leather was especially delicious and even the Romans in the streets seemed to be channeling their inner stylish self! Of course, I had to snag a little pink treat and let's just say a small vintage silk scarf is on its way to Derbyshire as we speak ā I can't wait to wear it for my ballet classes!
My Roman escapade continued with a trip to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, where a production of 'The Nutcracker' was scheduled that evening. You see, in addition to getting everyone in a tutu, I also dream of travelling the world and watching ballet performances in different theatres ā what better place to be than in Italy, the land where many iconic ballet classics originated?
My ballet experience was something out of a fairytale. The opera house, a jewel of architectural splendour, had its own elegant grace. But for me, nothing could have been more delightful than the performance itself. To see the magic unfold, the talent and the passionā¦it really touched my soul. I couldn't resist snapping a photo, not just of the stage but of the crowd dressed in their finest threads, a kaleidoscope of colour. In that moment, Rome truly became the stage for a timeless ballet, one of pure artistry, wonder, and elegance.
That brings me to a key part of my #PinkTutuRome mission. Of course, I wear my tutu everywhere - from exploring Roman squares, to climbing the Spanish steps (very glamorous, believe me!) - you name it, it's there! The more I twirl and spread my tutued charm, the more people I hope will be inspired to don their own pink tutus! Imagine a sea of pink dancing down the Roman streets! It's a beautiful image!
My friends, Rome, the city of glorious history and boundless charm, has captured a special part of my heart. And while I donāt want to be clichĆ©, it truly is a city I believe everyone should visit. The Colosseum, a true testament to a bygone era; the Vatican, an epicenter of faith and art, with Michelangeloās Pieta bringing me to tears. Even just the smallest details - a cosy cafĆ© where a man plays a romantic melody on the piano, a Roman street performer serenading with a mandolin - leave an imprint on my soul. I swear the Romans all seem to move in such elegant a mannerā¦ just think, the potential for pink tutus!
Thereās no doubt, #PinkTutuRome has officially earned a place in my heart, a place full of romantic cobblestones, the smell of fresh bread, the sound of joyful laughter, and a million and one ways to embrace life! Until next Wednesday, darlings, stay fabulous, stay strong, and most importantlyā¦don't forget to twirl! Ciao!
