Pink Tutu Rome: #289 - December 20th 2000 - The Eternal City in Pink!

Hello darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome post, this time from the magical, historical, and frankly just plain fabulous city of Rome! I know I always say it, but it truly is amazing, and I feel like every week I fall in love with this city all over again.

This week has been an absolute whirlwind! Let me tell you, keeping up with the schedule of a ballerina on tour is no mean feat. We arrived on Saturday, and I've been running between rehearsals, sightseeing, and some absolutely divine shopping opportunities.

Firstly, can we just talk about how much I adore train travel? Yes, it can be a bit slower, but it's such a lovely way to take in the countryside and just breathe. Especially when it means sitting back in a first-class carriage, looking out at the rolling hills of Tuscany as we trundled south.

And now, we're in Rome! I have to say, my heart skipped a beat when we pulled into Termini Station - I mean, how could it not?! Such incredible energy. We walked through the streets, soaking up the atmosphere, and within minutes, I'd found myself drawn to a street full of shops showcasing stunningly elegant silk scarves and colourful Italian dresses. I mean, the vibrant colours just screamed for me to bring them home! (Not that I needed any more reasons to indulge!)

You know how much I love theatre and performances, and it turns out that today - Wednesday the 20th, I might add! - we've been graced with the divine ballet of Romeo and Juliet. It took place at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, and my word, it was breathtaking! I could practically feel Shakespeare's words in the air. The passion and grace of the dancers was truly a sight to behold, and I almost felt as though I was floating alongside them.

We had a rehearsal before the performance, which meant an early morning of pliés and jetés. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you: jetés look much more appealing when performed in a lovely new pink tutu! Just imagine: a sunrise over the Tiber, me standing gracefully on the edge of a bridge, stretching in a fabulous pink tutu, all for my followers on pink-tutu.com! Ah, dreams, they come true in this magnificent city!

Speaking of which, it's hard not to mention the fashion scene in Rome! I mean, seriously, the Italian sense of style is truly inspirational. You can tell the women here care deeply about the art of dressing well, even just for a stroll down the street. There's such a beautiful effortlessness about the way they put their looks together, like a work of art! So I knew I simply had to find the perfect outfit to showcase the incredible Roman style and flair - something a bit special, yet totally pink, of course! After all, it's Pink Tutu Rome!

And so, my little pink-tutu-loving followers, let's talk about my find. I discovered this little boutique nestled away down a cobbled alley, where they had all sorts of beautiful vintage outfits. Imagine a delicate pale pink chiffon dress, its embroidery perfectly matching my favourite pink satin shoes, and to top it off, a gorgeous antique pearl necklace - so sparkly and glamorous, like the stars! I tried it all on, spun in the shop mirror like a true ballerina, and I just knew this was my outfit for Rome. It truly felt like a piece of history, but so pink and timeless. I can't wait to share a picture with all of you, but I'll have to save that for my next post! (Just a little teaser - think Audrey Hepburn meets Pinkalicious).

What else? We wandered through the cobbled streets of Trastevere, ate gelato, admired the Colosseum, and got completely lost in the maze-like, charming, and incredibly artistic, Trastevere district. We walked until our little toesies could take no more. So now, it's time for me to retire to my hotel and reflect on another incredible day in Rome, all from the comfort of a giant bed (and possibly with another delicious scoop of gelato in my hand).

And I'm already planning my next adventures for next week. Perhaps a visit to the Galleria Borghese and its Michelangelo masterpiece "The Sleeping Cupid". And definitely more exploring and more pink fashion inspiration, because this is Pink Tutu Rome, remember?

But for now, darlings, I leave you with this: remember that even in the busiest of lives, a touch of pink can always bring joy, so don't be afraid to embrace it, and let your inner ballerina shine. I mean, that's what Pink Tutu is all about, right?

Sending you all a big Pink Tutu hug from the heart of Rome!

Emma xoxo
