Pink Tutu Rome #313: A Whirlwind of History, Fashion & Pink in the Eternal City!

Wednesday, 2001-06-06

Buongiorno, my dearest Tutu Tribe! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and Rome is calling! I'm back for another Wednesday instalment of my Italian escapade, and oh my, the Eternal City is certainly living up to its name. From ancient ruins to delectable gelato, there's a whirlwind of wonder swirling around me, all begging to be explored in the most fabulous fashion possible - naturally, a pink tutu is a must!

This week has been a whirlwind of colour and culture. After arriving on Sunday, the first order of business was a grand Italian tour of the must-see landmarks: The Colosseum, with its incredible history, the Pantheon, a breathtaking masterpiece of architecture, and the Trevi Fountain, where I couldn't resist tossing a coin (for good luck, of course!), all while twirling in my fuschia tutu - it was practically screaming, "Ciao, Rome!"

One thing I absolutely adore about Rome is its captivating blend of the old and the new. I mean, picture this: stepping out of the ancient Forum onto a bustling street overflowing with colourful boutiques, artisan stalls brimming with leather goods, and charming cafes spilling onto cobbled pavements. It's a truly breathtaking spectacle that sets my fashion senses ablaze!

Speaking of fashion, my shopping spree in Rome has been quite the adventure! I stumbled upon this fabulous little shop in Trastevere called L'Atelier del Corallo, where they make the most beautiful coral jewelry. It's perfect for adding a splash of colour and sophistication to any tutu outfit - even my favourite pale pink one! And let's not forget the fabulous leather handbags I found at a quaint shop in Campo de' Fiori. This leather, oh my, it was as soft as a baby's cheek!

But of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without indulging in the city's delectable cuisine! The food here is simply divine - from creamy pasta carbonara to melt-in-your-mouth tiramisu, every bite is a symphony of flavour. And the gelato? Well, let's just say I'm on a mission to try every single flavour. It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it!

Wednesday evenings in Rome are just magic. The city seems to come alive, the streets thrumming with laughter and conversation, as the locals come out to enjoy the warm evening air. Last night, I ventured into the heart of the city to see a ballet performance at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. It was an absolute triumph - the dancers, the music, the costumes...simply breathtaking! And of course, I made sure my sequinned pink tutu was the highlight of the evening. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And as always, my week has been filled with countless adventures. One evening, I joined a group of artists at the Castel Sant'Angelo to witness the most spectacular sunset over Rome, the warm hues of the sky reflecting off the ancient stone, an unforgettable sight! I also explored the hidden alleyways and charming piazzas, sipping cappuccinos in the sunshine and soaking up the authentic Italian atmosphere.

Every day in Rome is a new chapter in the book of life, an opportunity to experience something magical. This week, I discovered a new ballet school tucked away in a cobbled street. With its warm, inviting atmosphere and experienced instructors, I felt immediately welcomed. The classes are such a treat - from learning classical steps to exploring the vibrant world of ballet street style, it's like dancing on clouds!

So, what's in store for the rest of my Roman adventure?

  • A day trip to the charming town of Orvieto for a visit to the famous Duomo and an exploration of its enchanting streets. Of course, I'm bringing my pink tutu - it's all about adding a touch of colour wherever I go!
  • A delicious pasta-making class to learn the secrets of this iconic Italian dish. Who knows, maybe I'll even be whipping up my own spaghetti alla carbonara back in Derbyshire!
  • More shopping, more exploring, and more gelato - because honestly, who can resist? I've already found a few gorgeous vintage boutiques brimming with hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. Just picture the possibilities - a vintage sequinned tutu, maybe?

Until next week, my dear Tutu Tribe!

Yours in pink, Emma
