Pink Tutu Rome: Post #319 - Ciao Bella! (18th July, 2001)
Buongiorno, my darlings!
It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad travel enthusiast, bringing you a little taste of the Eternal City - Rome!
As you know, I love nothing more than hopping on a train, exploring new corners of the world, and spreading the pink tutu gospel wherever I go. This week, I've traded the rolling Derbyshire hills for the ancient cobbles of Rome, and it's been pure magic!
I know what you're thinking: Rome and pink tutus, a curious combination, isn't it? Well, dear readers, I beg to differ! There's something so whimsical and charming about pirouetteing through the heart of history, even in my signature tutu (this one's a pale, blush-pink, perfect for the soft Italian light).
A Whirlwind Tour de Force
I arrived on Tuesday evening, greeted by the gentle scent of basil and the murmur of conversations spilling out onto the streets. The energy here is intoxicating, a mix of vibrant life and whispered ancient tales. I knew immediately that I needed to wear my bright pink ballet flats with little gold stars.
Letās talk about train journeys. My favourite way to travel! Something about being nestled in a train carriage, the scenery changing as I watch from the window, makes me feel like Iām living in a ballet - a beautiful, swirling story of new destinations. I particularly love listening to classical music as the landscape unfolds around me. I even practiced some pliĆ©s while watching the sunrise paint the Italian countryside - nobody saw, of course, but you have to stay sharp!
Day One - The Pantheon & Pink Passion
First things first, a trip to the Pantheon was an absolute must. Walking into that vast space, bathed in soft, golden light, felt like stepping into another world - the grandeur, the quiet reverence, it was mesmerising. I confess, I did take a few twirls in the middle of the floor. Just imagine - all those centuries watching my graceful moves!
After my pirouettes through the ages, it was time to unleash my inner shopaholic. You see, I have a strict shopping schedule. My motto? One ballerina, one pair of shoes per city. Well, technically two, if you include flats - which, naturally, I always do! Today's score was a pair of exquisitely-crafted leather ballet pumps with delicate lace trim - divine! It was the perfect match for my new pink and gold handbag I found in the Trevi Fountain area!
Day Two - A Roman Ballet & Fashion Find
Speaking of ballet, I knew I couldnāt leave Rome without seeing a performance. Thankfully, the Teatro dellāOpera di Roma was showcasing āGiselleā and I snapped up tickets like they were hot cakes. The story, the music, the movement, it took my breath away. I was utterly transfixed. Did I mention there was a particularly flamboyant pink tulle dress worn by the prima ballerina? My heart did a double pirouette.
After the show, I indulged in a spot of high-end fashion exploration in the heart of the city. I stumbled upon a tiny boutique nestled between grand old buildings - you wouldn't see it unless you knew to look. And inside? Heaven! A symphony of vibrant silk, sparkling lace and cascading ribbons, it was a ballerinaās dream come true! My shopping senses tingled! I managed to restrain myself and only picked up a pair of beautiful, intricately beaded earrings - the perfect way to dress up any outfit. (Especially my new tutu - more on that later).
The Magic of Rome
Rome truly lives up to its nickname - the Eternal City. Itās not just the historical monuments, but the feel, the atmosphere. I found myself lost in the winding, cobbled alleyways, letting my imagination roam with the ancient Roman ghosts that linger in these beautiful, crumbling walls. I think Rome inspires us all to be more creative and a little more passionate - that's why we must all wear pink tutus. Iām talking about it!
Coming Up Next
In my next post, I'll take you along with me to see the Colosseum (tutu required, obviously!), discover a hidden gem of a cafƩ, and perhaps even learn a few words in Italian - a little Roman magic, if you will.
So stay tuned! And donāt forget - every day is a ballet!
*P.S. Did you know that the 18th of July is Nelson Mandela International Day? Letās all work together to build a more equal world ā thatās why wearing pink tutus is so important. *
Until next week, darling readers, embrace the world with pink, tutus and a healthy dose of sparkle!
XOXO, Emma
