Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella!

#PinkTutuRome - Wednesday 2001-10-24 - Post #333

Ciao bella, fashionistas! It’s Emma here, back from the Eternal City of Rome with another overflowing dose of #PinkTutu goodness. Today marks my third week in this glorious city and oh my goodness, Rome is everything I dreamed it would be and more! It's like stepping back in time with all those amazing historical landmarks and incredible architecture, but it's still bursting with contemporary life, fashion, and fabulousness.

A Ballerina's Journey to Rome

You might be wondering how I’m able to travel all over the world while wearing my pink tutu. Well, it's all thanks to my amazing life as a travelling ballerina. Each week I perform at a different theatre or ballet show around the world, and the income I earn from performing funds my next adventure. There’s just no feeling like the magic of a performance, that connection between the dancer, the audience, and the art. It's pure magic!

This week, I was performing in a delightful La Traviata at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. As you know, I'm a sucker for opera - it’s so dramatic and expressive. The costumes in La Traviata are truly spectacular. The shimmering ball gowns and opulent gowns, paired with a backdrop of exquisite 19th century set designs, make the experience breathtakingly magical. It's pure artistry on a grand scale! And what a treat to finally see the glorious Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, an absolutely exquisite masterpiece of Italian design, and, in my opinion, every bit as dazzling as the performance itself!

The Charm of Rome and #PinkTutu Adventures

The past few weeks in Rome have been simply exhilarating. I've been devouring all the classic landmarks: the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain (of course, I tossed in a coin - wishing for more ballet shoes! 😉), the Spanish Steps, the Vatican City – I could go on and on! Each one is breathtaking in its own way. And I’ve even found a few hidden gems: tiny local shops selling the most delicious artisanal pastries (have you tried cannoli? Swoon! ), hidden piazzas that echo with the laughter of locals, and vibrant open-air markets bursting with fragrant flowers, juicy fruits, and Italian charm.

But my favourite discovery is definitely the city's captivating art scene. It seems like every turn reveals another gallery, museum, or stunning statue. Just yesterday I found myself wandering through the Borghese Gallery and admiring Bernini's stunning sculptures. And today I'm off to the Galleria Borghese – apparently their permanent collection has some real beauties! I can’t wait!

Pink Tutu Fashion Finds in Rome

The shopping scene in Rome has been fabulous. I’m really starting to develop a soft spot for the classic Italian style – timeless elegance with a dash of pizzazz! The Roman women always know how to dress to impress. They’ve got such flair! And of course, I can’t resist picking up a few pieces of Italian leather and silk scarves – perfect accessories for my pink tutu, of course! I even bought a stunning vintage Italian scarf. It's beautifully printed with vibrant floral designs. And it just perfectly goes with my pink tutu.

The shoes, my goodness the shoes! It's a shopper’s dream! All the sleek heels, stylish boots, and those comfortable, oh so fabulous, sandals. The city’s footwear selection is top notch!

Rome at Night: Street Performances & Magic

This city comes alive at night! I love strolling through the romantic cobbled streets, taking in the stunning city views. But of course, no trip to Italy is complete without savouring authentic Italian food – the pizza! The pasta! And the gelato! The flavours! Sighs contentedly.

And Rome at night brings out some truly incredible street performers - there are artists on the streets and talented singers belting out operas under the starry night. There's even a man doing incredible feats on a unicycle! There's magic in the air everywhere I go. Sometimes, it even seems like the buildings themselves are about to break out into a beautiful ballet! I love it!

The Pink Tutu's Rome Diary

Here's a glimpse into my Rome adventures, in the words of my Pink Tutu diary:

  • Day 1: Arrive in Rome, instantly smitten! The train journey was amazing – passing through idyllic vineyards, rolling hills and ancient towns - a little slice of heaven. The city lights at night - WOW! I almost forgot to pack my dancing shoes!
  • Day 2: Exploring ancient Rome! The Colosseum – a marvel of Roman engineering, simply awe-inspiring. It's hard not to feel a sense of wonder at how much history this city holds.
  • Day 3: My first Italian feast! Lasagne! Pizza! Tiramisu! Oh my goodness, how does anything else compare?
  • Day 4: Stepping into the Pantheon’s magic! This place is a feast for the senses. Every detail – the perfect proportions, the magnificent dome, and those sunbeams dancing on the marble floor - takes my breath away!
  • Day 5: Roman fashion find! Spotted this exquisite vintage pink floral print silk scarf at a tiny, tucked away boutique. Perfect for pairing with my favourite pink tutu! Just can't resist the Italian style.
  • Day 6: La Traviata at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Gorgeous gowns! Spectacular opera singing! And those fabulous set designs, oh my!
  • Day 7: Wandering around the Trevi Fountain! It's so beautiful! Tossed in a coin to make my wish, fingers crossed!

Pink Tutu Adventures Never Stop!

So, there you have it, fashionistas – my Rome diary! As you can tell, Rome has left its magic mark on my heart! It’s such a visually vibrant city - it feels like a set for an opera or a fairytale! Rome will stay with me long after I return to Derbyshire!

And for all my followers who have asked – I can't wait to start planning my next pink tutu adventure. I’m still working out where I'm heading next. I’m thinking Paris, Prague, or maybe even the glamorous New York City! It'll be a long time before I get to return to Rome, but the memory of this adventure is something I’ll always treasure.

Until then, keep the faith, stay fabulous, and most importantly, keep wearing those tutus!

Ciao bella, Emma x
