Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2001-11-28 - The Eternal City En Pointe!

Ciao, darlings! It's Emma, back from a whirlwind Italian adventure and ready to share all the delights of Rome, the Eternal City, with you!

Tutu-ing around Rome: Where pink meets history!

Let me tell you, Rome's a city that's got it all! Ancient ruins, bustling piazzas, charming cobblestone streets, delicious food and the most incredible shopping opportunities! And let's not forget the beautiful buildings! I spent the week feeling like a little pink tutu-clad princess, twirling around with the Roman Colosseum as my stage!

Getting There in Style:

It's been a while since I hopped on a train! Remember that amazing railway adventure in Paris? Well, I can tell you that travelling by train to Rome was just as exciting! A journey full of charming train stations, and stunning Italian scenery that flew by my window! The train was just as magical, even in my pink tutu and matching floral fascinator, which, let me tell you, was a huge hit with my fellow travellers!

First Impressions of Rome: From the Train Station to the Piazza di Spagna

When I finally reached Rome, I was swept off my feet by the beauty of the city. There's just so much history in the air, it's intoxicating! From the impressive train station to the bustling city centre, it felt like stepping back in time. I grabbed my trusty tote bag filled with essentials (my ballet flats for, of course, those inevitable long walks) and a brand new Italian leather handbag - a fabulous pink one, naturally. I found it in a charming boutique on Via Condotti! The handbag even matched the roses I bought for myself, fresh and beautiful.

My Rome Must-Dos

It wouldn't be a proper Pink Tutu adventure without a few must-dos, now, would it?

A Dance in the Colosseum!

It was a dream come true. I stood, feeling both excited and a bit overwhelmed by the grandeur of this iconic arena. Imagine me, twirling and pirouetting in front of the ruins! It was as if the Roman gladiators and emperors themselves were cheering me on, even from beyond the ages. Now, I have to admit, I kept my twirls contained - no need to embarrass myself or risk falling into one of the many crevices, haha! But I did allow myself to feel like a real ballerina, with the Roman skies above and the ancient ruins around me. I know, a pink tutu-wearing ballerina in a historical wonder – talk about an unforgettable picture!

The Vatican Museums: Art, Culture, and Fabulous Fashion!

The Vatican! Holy wow! Just imagine – masterpieces by Michelangelo, Raphael, and endless corridors filled with some of the greatest artwork in the world. And I won't lie – the museums themselves are works of art! The Vatican is not only about art and religion, but it’s also an opportunity to dress up. You just can’t be in this magnificent place in a pair of jeans and a T-shirt! This is an outfit change opportunity that screams elegance, especially if you are wearing pink! This is the reason why I bought my very elegant ivory dress with an intricately embellished tulle top in a shop near Piazza Navona. A dress fit for a Queen, if I do say so myself. But don't worry, it's a beautiful soft pink – perfect for the pink tutu loving princess I am!

Food, Fashion and a Spot of Shopping:

Rome truly is a food lover’s paradise! Pasta, pizza, gelato, all so delectable and delicious! I even learned how to make some of their famous dishes - my pasta bolognese was a total hit at my Italian language class!

Oh, did I mention the shopping? This was a trip tailored for a fashion-conscious ballerina! I just couldn’t resist the fabulous Italian leather goods, especially in my favourite colour! Every boutique was like a dance of beautiful fabric, colors and textures.

The Beauty of the Roman Gardens:

In a city full of history and beautiful architecture, a walk through a tranquil garden provides a welcome moment of calm. There are so many breathtaking gardens throughout the city - like the enchanting Babuino, perfect for a pink tutu twirl in a more private setting, or a visit to the Villa Borghese – truly one of Rome’s gems. It's a place where Roman statues and greenery meet! It is definitely an Insta-worthy place, as it has the most amazing photo opportunities, perfect for my Instagram feed.

Pink Tutu Fun

There are no limits when you travel to a city as historical and fabulous as Rome, even more so when you're dressed in your signature pink tutu. Even in the city of love, my tutu managed to spark some fun. It became quite the conversation starter and drew smiles from everyone!

And who knows, maybe my little pink tutu will spark a trend? I've got my fingers crossed that by the end of this trip, I’ll inspire every woman to channel their inner ballerina, even if it means only taking a twirl through the streets!

More Adventures in Rome:

This has just been a glimpse of my adventures in Rome. Next week, I'll be sharing stories of a fantastic ballet show at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma - absolutely mesmerising and spectacular!

Until then, stay sparkly and embrace the pink!

Ciao, Ciao!
