Pink Tutu Rome: #339 - A Whirlwind of Roman Delight (Wednesday 5th December 2001)

Ciao, darling tutus!

Welcome back to another Pink Tutu Rome blog post, your weekly dose of pink-tinted travel adventures. It's Wednesday, which means it's time to trade my dancing shoes for a pair of trusty walking boots, and embrace the magic of Italy. And let me tell you, the magic has been intense this week.

This time, I'm in Rome, the Eternal City! It feels utterly incredible to be here, especially considering it’s just me and my faithful pink tutu, conquering this breathtaking metropolis one cobble-stone at a time. As I'm writing this, I'm actually nestled in a charming little café, watching the world go by and sipping the most delicious hot chocolate (laced with a little something extra for a truly pinktastic experience).

I reached Rome earlier this week, after an enchanting train journey. Honestly, there’s something about travelling by train that gets my creative juices flowing. The rhythmic clatter of the wheels, the fleeting views of countryside and bustling towns, and the chance to eavesdrop on conversations and observe people (always fascinating) - all of it gets me into that perfect state of mind to brainstorm for my next dance routine.

Of course, no visit to Italy is complete without a taste of the local culture. So, yesterday, I found myself whisked away to a stunning performance of La Traviata at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Honestly, the opulent setting, the talented singers, and the sweeping story…it all took my breath away! And the costumes! I swear I caught sight of some pink tutus (even if not quite as glamorous as mine!) It truly ignited my love of the theatricality and storytelling that ballet and opera share.

And speaking of storytelling, the streets of Rome themselves tell tales whispered in ancient stone and echoing in cobblestone alleys. I’ve spent hours wandering, soaking up the history and the vibrant atmosphere. Yesterday I climbed the Spanish Steps, each one feeling like a note in a musical scale, the energy crescendoing as I reached the top. The stunning view over Rome… it was pure magic!

Of course, I’ve indulged in a little fashion exploration too. Did you know Rome is a veritable paradise for shoes? I'm talking designer labels, chic boutiques, and endless rows of elegant heels – enough to make a girl (and her trusty pink tutu) very happy. The colour pink is everywhere in this city; I can't get enough!

I've also discovered that Rome is a wonderful place to find unique souvenirs and quirky gifts. I've already snagged a beautiful miniature Colosseum as a keepsake, and a pair of dainty pink earrings for myself (because a little extra sparkle never hurts!). I'm already starting to plan my outfits for the festive season, mixing my new Roman finds with the signature pink of my tutu. Think glittering brooches and silk scarves, topped off with a flourish of pink tulle, for an irresistible Italian-inspired look!

This afternoon, I'm going to take a class at the Opera House, you know, just to keep my dancing skills sharp! This week is shaping up to be an exciting blend of art, culture, and my beloved pink. And that's how I like to do Rome.

As always, my dearest tutus, feel free to join me on my adventures! Don't forget to check out my Pink Tutu website - www.pink-tutu.com - for more pictures and updates from my travels. Remember, a touch of pink is all it takes to make life a little more magical. And who knows, maybe you'll find your own pink tutu waiting for you in Rome too.

Stay twirling, Emma xo
