Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2001-12-26 - Exploring the Eternal City (Post #342)
Ciao, darlings!
It's Emma here, back with another instalment from the pinkest, most twirlingly fabulous city on earth: Rome!
I've been dreaming of this trip for ages, ever since I caught a glimpse of the Colosseum on a documentary about ancient history in Year 9 (remember how mesmerised we all were by those gladiatorial battles?). Anyway, ever since then, the city of Rome has been nestled firmly within my "Places to See in a Tutu" bucket list.
And, guess what? I'm finally here! I took the train down from Florence this morning - the Italian trains are SO elegant, wouldn't you agree? I do love a good train journey, and especially when the scenery's as picturesque as this - I swear I could hear the Colosseum whispering hello to me as I rolled in!
Anyway, let me tell you all about what's been happening in Rome today:
Morning: A Spot of Culture
First thing this morning, after a decadent breakfast of cappuccino and cornetti (so delicious!), I decided to explore the Forum and the Pantheon. These are both SO iconic, aren't they? You know, I can't even imagine how impressive these structures must have looked when they were first built. Now, imagine me twirling on stage in a tutu - imagine the sheer magnificence of such a vision! It's like that, but times a thousand!
Honestly, I could spend weeks wandering through these ruins. The sense of history just hangs in the air. Imagine the stories they could tell! But, on today's agenda was the really big one…
Afternoon: "The Eternal City", Meet the Pink Tutu
Now, you all know me, I'm not one to blend in, especially when there's an opportunity to spread some pink-tutu-joy! And today, was all about spreading that joy! I took a little tour of the Piazza Navona – those fountains, darling, are just incredible! They must have inspired so many artists, I can imagine Michelangelo sketching those scenes right here. (But not in a pink tutu, I suppose, darling!).
But this is the Eternal City, not a typical artsy, artsy place for me. And that was precisely why I had planned this: My Pink Tutu debut on the Spanish Steps! Now, we've all seen these pictures before, with tourists just milling about, haven’t we? Well, today, darling, today, that changed!
Yes, you guessed it, I did a performance right on the Spanish Steps! I just had to give a little Pink Tutu flare to such an iconic location. Imagine my surprise when, instead of gasps of shock, it was greeted with the warmest of smiles, laughter, and even the cutest Italian gentleman asked me to twirl a bit faster for him!
He told me I had to see his daughter, who was a ballerina, darling! He said, "she would just love you, and you could make her dance again after her knee injury." What an emotional moment! Oh, the magic that a little bit of pink can do.
But of course, a good ballet needs its encore…
Evening: Roman Elegance
After a bite to eat, we all know how hungry those Italian gentleman made me, I decided to go to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma to enjoy a fabulous ballet performance! And darling, let me tell you, what an experience!
Imagine: a theatre filled with ornate architecture, a stunning performance from world-renowned dancers. This evening, my inspiration wasn't just the choreography or the costumes. It was seeing those delicate, fluid movements set against a backdrop of the Colosseum's ancient walls. You couldn't ask for a more beautiful, inspiring combination, wouldn't you agree?
Of course, the evening was capped off by a visit to one of Rome’s famous fashion stores for a little, "Emma-approved," shopping spree. I just had to get my hands on a pair of ruby red stiletto heels, and a few beautiful floral printed dresses.
But this isn't about me, darlings, it's about all of you!
This post, dear reader, was for anyone with an itchy-foot and a yearning to travel, a little twinkle in your eye, and a touch of romance in your soul! So don't let fear hold you back from exploring! Who knows, maybe a trip to Rome could be in your future - pink tutu optional (but strongly encouraged!).
Until next Wednesday, darling, keep dancing!
Much love and sparkles, Emma x
