Pink Tutu Rome #344: Ciao Bella! 🩰🇮🇹
Buongiorno, my darling Tutu Twirlers! It’s Wednesday, so you know what that means... another glorious Pink Tutu travel blog post!
This week, I’ve found myself whisked away to the eternal city, Rome! From the moment I stepped off the train, a city bathed in golden sunshine, and heard the excited chattering of the locals, I knew I was in for a treat. You see, Rome holds a special place in my heart. The city’s energy is just… captivating. It feels like the perfect blend of ancient history, modern chic, and oh-so-much gelato!
Let me tell you, I’m a firm believer in travelling by train. The rhythmic click-clack of the wheels on the track is my ultimate relaxation music! Especially when coupled with a window seat and the scenery of the countryside zipping by.
This trip was all about the beautiful art of dance, darling! Rome boasts a vibrant theatre scene, and I simply couldn’t resist soaking up some world-class ballet performances. First on the list was the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma where I witnessed the breathtaking production of "La Traviata." Now, anyone who knows me knows that Verdi is my favourite composer, so I was practically dancing in my seat with excitement! The set was magnificent - you felt transported straight to 19th century Paris. The dancers were exquisite, their movements graceful, and the costumes… let's just say the tutus were positively dreamy. I even caught myself humming the famous aria, "Libiamo ne' lieti calici!" Who knew my Italian was so fluent? 😜
But I'm not just a ballet-loving spectator. I'm here to experience the magic of Rome’s ballet scene up close and personal. Just yesterday, I went to an open class at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza, an historic and prestigious ballet academy. As I danced alongside students and professional dancers, the energy in the room was positively electric! Their dedication was inspiring and reminded me just why I fell in love with ballet all those years ago. Oh, and I think I might have had my heart stolen by the cutest, most charming young ballerina who danced like a dream! You just never know where love might blossom, do you?
And of course, my Rome adventure isn’t complete without indulging in the city’s delightful charm. Just the other day, I found myself strolling down Via Condotti - the home of some of the most exclusive fashion houses in the world. Let’s just say my wallet might be a little lighter, but my wardrobe is overflowing with divine delights! A fabulously flirty pink dress, a new pair of cherry-red stilettos (it's all about colour coordination, darling!), and of course, a new pink tulle skirt to twirl in while taking in the sights of Rome. (Oh, and how about this, I discovered a boutique with an incredible selection of tutus in every colour of the rainbow! I'll have to write a separate post about that!)
But it's not all about designer boutiques and glamorous ballrooms. My travels are always about soaking up the local culture. On Sunday, I spent a lovely afternoon exploring the charming, bustling streets of Trastevere. This neighbourhood is filled with charming shops, authentic restaurants, and an infectious, bohemian spirit. I just loved strolling around, sampling the delicious street food, and people-watching - a favourite pastime of any ballerina!
This evening, I'm heading to Teatro Argentina, one of the oldest theatres in Rome, for an absolutely must-see ballet production. It’s an exploration of the history of dance and is sure to be spectacular.
As for me? My little pink tutu has been with me every step of the way, from the bustling train station to the grand opera houses and all the enchanting piazzas in between. It's become my very own, whimsical passport to adventure. And while it’s true, some might think a pink tutu isn’t the most practical item to bring on a trip to Rome, I disagree! Let’s face it, when you have a tutu this magical, anything is possible!
Rome has charmed me yet again with its rich culture, passionate people, and delicious cuisine. Stay tuned, dear readers, because my adventures are just getting started. Next week, I'll be sharing some of my favorite finds - think adorable vintage stores and charming cafes.
But until then, go forth and twirl! Remember, it’s a whole lot of fun to make life a little bit more sparkly with a touch of pink and a generous dose of twirls!
With all my love and a flourish of my tutu,
Emma xx
